They could either apply directly for retotalling or apply after receiving a copy of the answer scripts. Teachers mentioned that the new process will ensure that only students with a deficiency in totalling marks will apply for retotalling."Total marks will not change if the candidate applies for retotalling. So, more students used to apply for retotalling. Scores will change after revaluation as a team of teachers will evaluate the answer scripts," a teacher said. The process of direct retotalling was less costly as students did not need to apply for a copy of their answer sheets, another teacher said. When medical admissions were based on Class XII marks, around one lakh candidates used to apply for retotalling and revaluation of answer scripts. However, after NEET-based medical admissions, the number of applications for both retotalling and revaluation dropped to below 5,000 in the past few years.

Counselling for med seat admissions on Aug 1

Panaji: 'Counselling will be held for medicine, dentistry, nursing, and allied health programmes. For ayurveda and homeopathy seats, the counselling schedule will be declared when the respective council declares their admission schedules,' said an official. There are around 170 state quota MBBS seats in Goa. 'The eligibility list will be declared by July 24 and the merit list by July 30 for NEET-based programmes. Admissions for pharmacy seats too will be held along with the medicine seat admissions as the NEET scores have come now. Pharmacy seat admissions are done either on the NEET score or the JEE Main score — whichever is higher — in physics and chemistry,' the official said. The first round of engineering seat admissions was completed, and the second round is expected to be held in Aug. Around 450 of 1,700 seats went vacant after the first admission round. 'Vacancies have been observed after the economically backward sections (EWS) quota was introduced. Before the quota, there were around 1,200 engineering seats in the state, of which around 1,100 would be filled. After the quota seats were added, a similar number of seats have been getting filled, but the additional ones are going vacant,' said an official. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo As has been the trend in recent years, the directorate has proposed to state govt to relax the JEE criteria in the subsequent engineering admission rounds to allow the vacant seats to be filled. 'Even after relaxing the criteria, just around 50 more seats are seen to be getting filled in subsequent rounds. Relaxing JEE criteria allows any student with 45% marks in physics, chemistry, and maths in Class XII to apply for an engineering seat, even if he or she has not appeared for the JEE for some reason,' said the official. Most of the vacant seats are at the state's private engineering colleges, while those at the govt-run Goa Engineering College have mostly been taken.

7k fewer students clear NEET in Gujarat, cut-offs likely to be lowered

Ahmedabad: A palpable shift has emerged in Gujarat's medical admission scene following the declaration of NEET 2025 results on Saturday. The state has witnessed a substantial decrease in qualifying students, with roughly 7,000 fewer candidates clearing the rigorous exam compared to the previous year. This outcome is expected to trigger a significant downward adjustment in merit cut-offs, benefiting a broader range of aspirants eyeing MBBS, BDS, ayurveda, and homeopathy courses. The stage is now set for the admission process, poised to begin in early July. Last year, 57,232 students from Gujarat qualified in NEET, while this year, only 50,040 cleared the exam. Notably, in 2024, 16 students scored perfect 720 marks, but in 2025, no student achieved a full score. According to medical admission sources, last year's last admission at BJ Medical College closed at 699 marks. This year, even the top scorer across India secured less than that, indicating that merit ranks will significantly drop across all medical colleges. Currently, Gujarat has a total of 16,246 NEET-based seats: 6,958 in MBBS, 1,255 in BDS, 3,473 in ayurveda, and 4,560 in homeopathy. In addition, paramedical courses offer over 50,000 seats. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Combining both, there are more than 70,000 seats available, meaning that most qualifying students are likely to get admission in at least one NEET or paramedical course. The admission committee is preparing to begin the admission process in the first week of July. Officials mentioned that once all candidate data is received by the end of June, a detailed schedule will be announced. Experts suggest that students who scored lower marks in NEET this year should explore opportunities not just in MBBS but also in BDS, ayurveda, and homeopathy. Moreover, approvals for three new medical colleges may add 300 more MBBS seats, along with expected increases in Ayush course seats.

Fresh round for 51k paramedical seats in Gujarat likely after NEET results are announced

Ahmedabad: The registration and PIN distribution process for admissions to more than 51,000 seats in nine paramedical courses, including BSc nursing, recently concluded in Gujarat. A total of 31,779 students purchased the PIN, out of which 30,851 completed the registration, and 25,939 completed document verification. With NEET 2025 results still pending, there's a strong possibility that the admission committee may reopen registrations to accommodate students who may not secure seats in NEET-based courses. Admissions to general nursing and midwifery (GNM), auxiliary nurse midwifery (ANM) programmes, and bachelor's degree courses like nursing, optometry, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, orthotics & prosthetics, audiology & speech-language pathology, and naturopathy & yogic sciences are granted based on Class 12 science results, excluding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) scores. Currently, there are 1,104 colleges across the state offering 51,331 seats in total. As NEET results are still awaited, many students uncertain about securing admissions to MBBS, BDS, ayurveda, or homeopathy courses may look to enter para-medical programmes. The initial registration window closed on June 11. However, if many NEET candidates look to shift to para-medical courses, a second registration round may be needed. Even if all current registered candidates are allotted seats, over 20,000 seats are expected to remain vacant. Despite this, several institutions have applied for approvals to open new nursing colleges. These, once approved, will add further seats to the admission pool before the final allotment process.
