"How can the Prime Minister give a statement? Kya bolenge PM, ki Trump ne karwaya hai? (What will he say? That Trump has announced it? He can't say it, but it is the truth. The entire world knows that Trump has announced a ceasefire. We can't hide from reality," Gandhi told reporters.

"This is not only about a ceasefire. There are several major issues that we would like to discuss related to defence, defence manufacturing, and Operation Sindoor. The condition is not normal; the entire nation knows," he added.
Intensifying his attack, Gandhi stated that the Prime Minister has not been able to provide a single response to Trump's claims about a ceasefire, which he has reiterated 25 times so far.

"Those who call themselves 'deshbhakt' have run away. The Prime Minister is unable to give a single statement. Trump has claimed 25 times that he has announced a ceasefire. Who is he? This is not his work. However, the Prime Minister didn't respond once. This is reality. Can't hide from it," the Congress MP said.
"They have destroyed our foreign policy. You can hardly count on your fingers the number of countries that have supported us. No one has supported us," Gandhi added.
This comes after a recent statement made by Donald Trump, where he repeated his claims of "stopping the war between India and Pakistan" in the name of trade deals.
"We have stopped wars between India and Pakistan. They were probably going to end up in a nuclear war. They shot down five planes in the last attack. It was back and forth, back and forth. I called them and I said no more trade if you do this. They are both powerful nuclear nations. Who knows where that would have ended up, and I stopped it," Trump said.
Earlier in the day, Senior Congress leader
Jairam Ramesh
lambasted the Narendra Modi government over its refusal to rebut the claims made by US President Donald Trump of announcing a "ceasefire" between India and Pakistan.
He said that the claims of a "ceasefire" made by Trump have reached their silver jubilee with the US president reiterating them 25 times in the last 73 days. The Congress leader attacked the centre for not providing a definite date for discussing the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor that followed.
"As the Modi government continues in its refusal to give firm dates for a debate on Pahalgam-Sindoor in Parliament and as the Modi government persists in its refusal to commit to a reply by the PM in the debate, President Trump reaches the silver jubilee, the quarter century mark on his claims. He has trumpeted 25 times in the last 73 days, but the Prime Minister of India is totally quiet - finding time only to travel abroad and to destabilise democratic institutions at home," Ramesh, General Secretary incharge of Communications in Congress, posted on X.

Mumbai suburban rail network records 2,282 fatalities in 2024: Vaishnaw

Advt By , ETInfra A staggering 2,282 fatalities were reported on Mumbai's suburban railway network in 2024 due to a range of incidents including trespassing, pole hitting, falling from running trains, and falling in platform gaps, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, reportsVaishnaw clarified that 'police' and 'public order' fall under state subjects as per the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution, making state governments responsible for the prevention, detection, registration, and investigation of crimes and maintaining law and order on railways through their law enforcement agencies, namely the Government Railway Police (GRP) or district added that the Railway Protection Force (RPF) supplements these efforts to provide enhanced protection and security to railway property, passenger areas, and to information received from the GRP, the 2,282 fatalities on Mumbai's suburban railway network in 2024 were attributed to various reasons, as down the fatalities by district, Vaishnaw said, 'Mumbai recorded 1,408 deaths, while Thane registered 615 such cases. Raigarh and Navi Mumbai reported 128 and 131 fatalities, respectively.'Addressing a recent train incident in the Mumbai suburban area, the minister confirmed that a committee has been constituted to investigate the cause of the incident near Mumbra also highlighted passenger safety initiatives undertaken by the railways, saying the introduction of AC local trains equipped with automatic doors in Mumbai. He described this as a welcome initiative to enhance commuters safety and reduce incidents related to overcrowding."The automatic doors prevent passengers from hanging on footboards or boarding moving trains which is a major cause of fatal accidents," Vaishnaw said. "These doors remain closed while the train is in motion and open only at stations when the train is stationary, thereby significantly reducing the risk of falls."He further added that increasing the frequency of train services, including suburban train services, is an ongoing process for Indian Railways, subject to operational feasibility, traffic justification, and availability of resources.

PM 'shows weakness' by not responding to Trump's repeated claims on India-Pakistan conflict: Congress chief

After U.S. President Donald Trump repeated his claim — for the 25th time, according to the Congress — that he had stopped the recent conflict between India and Pakistan, party leaders questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's continued 'silence' on the issue. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said there was 'something fishy' about Mr. Modi's failure to respond even once to Mr. Trump's repeated claim of facilitating a ceasefire. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge said the PM 'shows weakness' by staying silent. On Tuesday, the U.S. President said once again that he had stopped the recent conflict which 'could end up in a nuclear war', adding that five planes had been shot down during the war. 'PM should respond firmly' 'Trump keeps saying that he facilitated a ceasefire, but Narendra Modi is silent, not responding. Does Narendra Modi want to be subservient to Trump? The country is the most important, which is why we supported the government,' Mr. Kharge told reporters. 'In such a situation, when Trump repeatedly states that he brought about the ceasefire and insults India, the Prime Minister should respond firmly. This, in some way, shows weakness.' Mr. Gandhi said that the PM could not respond as 'the whole world knows' the truth of the situation. 'This is not just about ceasefire there are big problems that we want to discuss. There are problems related to defence, defence industry, Operation Sindoor. The situation is not good and the whole world knows. Those who call themselves patriots have run away. The Prime Minister is not able to give one statement,' Mr. Gandhi told journalists at the Parliament House complex. 'Something fishy' 'Trump has said 25 times that 'I got the ceasefire done'. Who is Trump to get a ceasefire done? It is not his job. But the Prime Minister has not given a reply even once. That is the truth, he cannot hide,' the Congress leader said, adding that the Modi government has 'destroyed our foreign policy, no one supported us'. The government has agreed to hold a Parliamentary discussion on Operation Sindoor when the Prime Minister returns from his trip out of the country, Mr. Gandhi said. 'On the one hand you [government] say Operation Sindoor is ongoing and on the other hand you say that victory has been achieved. Either victory has been achieved or Sindoor is ongoing. Trump is saying I halted Sindoor, he has said it 25 times. So, 'kuch na kuch toh daal mein kala hai na' (something is fishy),' he added.
