The 3,021 Spurs fans who turned up instantly sang songs proclaiming their 'Champions of Europe' status following May's Europa League triumph.
Chairman Daniel Levy, who controversially sacked the man who had delivered that trophy, Ange Postecoglou, and replaced him with Frank, watched on from the directors' box, deep in conversation with Spurs' technical director Johan Lange throughout.
In truth, it was a dull first half that very much reflected its pre-season status, but there were a few hints of what Frank may bring to Tottenham from a tactical perspective.
First of all, he went with two holding midfielders - something predecessor Postecoglou rarely did until the final stage of the Europa League.

Kudus and Vuskovic, who officially moved to the club this summer two years on from when his £12m switch from Hajduk Split had been agreed.
The switches quickly had an impact with Frank's men going 2-0 up with nine minutes of the restart.
Spurs' opener came from a set-piece, which must have pleased their new boss immensely given it is an area he is looking to improve.
Academy product Lankshear got the finishing touch, but it was set up by two new-boys.
Kudus fired in an outswinging corner which Vuskovic flicked on, allowing Lankshear to nod home.

Five minutes later, Kudus and Vuskovic linked up again with the man signed from West Ham for £55m laying the ball off for Vuskovic to steer beautifully into the corner.
It was a brilliant finish from a centre-back, or any player, but then again Vuskovic has goals in his locker, having netted seven on loan in Belgium with Westerlo last season.
The Croatia international then showed his defensive awareness with an important clearance to deny Andre Garcia's header.
There has been a lot of scrutiny around the future of Son this summer and the South Korean struggled with his touch when coming on.
There was a bit of crowd trouble between the two sets of fans up in the corner of the Sir John Madejski Stand in the final ten minutes of the game, with a few bottles thrown.
But it did not take the shine off what was a good start for Frank - and for Kudus and Vuskovic in particular.

Most read in Football Gazza was admitted to an intensive care ward but has now been moved to an acute medical unit where his condition was described as stable. He remains in a hospital near his home, and is expected to stay there for several days for treatment. The source added: 'Paul still spends a lot of time out and on the road attending events and meeting fans at boozy dinners and awards nights. 'It's a rollercoaster lifestyle with lots of temptation there. 'No date has been set for his hospital discharge yet - he's just taking one day at a time and focusing on getting well.' 7 Gazza playing in a legends match in 2022 Credit: Willie Vass

Evan Ferguson's change of scene ideal for player stuck in a rut
Thirty-one years on from the scene of Ireland's peak World Cup moment, the current hope Evan Ferguson will use the Stadio Olimpico as his revival launchpad. The ancient city of Rome has produced oodles of history within cultural, political and sporting contexts and Ferguson is there to pen his own personal chapter. For someone who's only 20, it seemed the burden of a nation has long rested on the striker's shoulders. An Ireland debutant and Premier League hat-trick hero by 18, the world was his to conquer. Inter Milan or Juventus would have come calling had that trajectory been maintained but the common pitfalls of injury and managerial upheaval mean his loan switch to AS Roma is convenient for both parties. New manager Gian Piero Gasperini, after working wonders at Atalanta for nine years, wants a project player to nurture while a change of scene is ideal for a player stuck in a rut in England. The beaming smile which stretched across Ferguson's face as he walked towards an adoring welcome party of fans at Ciampino Airport on Sunday night indicated a relief on his part. He was brought to the club's Centro Sportivo Fulvio Bernardini training facility on Monday to complete his medical. An announcement finalising his season-long loan deal is imminent to facilitate him starting to train on Tuesday. Roma are a club possessing a decorated past, their third Serie A title claimed in 2001, and still remain at the sporting epicentre of the Italian capital. Their average home attendance last season, 62,758, was double the turnout for his parent club, Brighton and Hove Albion. Claudio Ranieri came out of retirement last November to succeed sacked Ivan Juric and by steering Roma to fifth, he bequeathed Europa League qualification before stepping upstairs into an executive role. They have enjoyed recent European success, José Mourinho following up the 2022 inaugural Conference League triumph by reaching the Europa League final 12 months later. Uefa's system for rewarding the major countries decrees they'll start this season's Europa League as one of the 12 teams granted direct access to the League phase beginning on September 24. Ferguson's arrival forms part of a summer of turnover at Roma. American owners Friedkin Group, who added Everton to its stable last December, engineered the managerial change along with returning Frederic Massara to the director of football role following stints at AC Milan and Stade Rennais. There's also a new look to the squad shaping up too. Gone are last season's strike pairing, Eldor Shomurodov and Tammy Abraham. Both have been loaned to Turkish clubs, İstanbul Başakşehir and Beşiktaş respectively and the expectation is that they won't be back. Abraham's departure frees up the No 9 shirt, which Artem Dovbyk has claimed for the new season officially kicking off against Bologna on August 23. The Ukrainian's No 11 jersey has been snapped up by Ferguson. Moroccan Neil El Aynaoui was in the door just before him, the midfielder completing a €25m transfer from Lens to don the No 8 shirt. The same outlay is anticipated for Wesley França, the 21-year-old Brazilian full-back on his way from Flamengo. Red Bull Salzburg's Oscar Gloukh is another target, despite a €15m big being accepted by Ajax. He's an attacking midfielder, just like Pablo Dybala, the 31-year-old whose penalty in the shoot-out helped Argentina win the 2024 World Cup. A younger Argentinian to follow the same path from Juventus last year, Matias Soulé, came with a big price tag of €30m and reputation. Both will be relied upon to supply Ferguson with the firepower to flourish. Italian strength weaves through the team's spine. Gianluca Mancini is the vice-captain at the back in front of fellow Azzurri internationals, captain Lorenzo Pellegrini and Bryan Cristante. Sunday's first pre-season friendly resulted in a 14-0 stroll over Trastevere. Monday marked a day off before the squad, including Ferguson, return to the pitch to resume their schedule. Another midweek workout is planned before they travel to Germany for Saturday's friendly against FC Kaiserslautern – the Fritz-Walter-Stadion being the potential location for Ferguson's first involvement in Giallorossi's famous garb.

Jack Henry-Francis signing a 'real coup' for Shelbourne
Former Shelbourne midfielder Alan Cawley believes the club's signing of midfielder Jack Henry-Francis is a "real coup". The London-born Republic of Ireland youth international has previous experience of the League of Ireland, having been on loan at Sligo Rovers from Arsenal last season, particularly impressing in a match against Derry City which RTÉ soccer analyst Cawley was working on. Henry-Francis was also on the radar during the latter part of Arsenal's run to the 2024-25 Champions League semi-finals by being included in matchday squads for the then-injury hit Gunners - albeit he did not get any minutes. But after signing for Shelbourne at the weekend, the 21-year-old will now be a boost to the Dublin club as they look to bounce back in the league and navigate the European campaign. "You can see the smile across my face when you mentioned his name. This boy is a fantastic talent," Cawley told this week's . "And it's a real coup for Shelbourne to get him because I remember that night very well and he was absolutely outstanding up in the Brandywell against Derry City, who were obviously going for the league as well and Sligo Rovers not in as good form (at the time). "But he absolutely ran the show, he was brilliant. Not just in terms of getting on the ball and spraying balls around and running the game with technical ability. (But it was) his energy levels, he was involved in everything. "He was like an old-fashioned midfielder, doing a bit of everything but all to a very high level and a very high standard. Sligo midfielder Jack Henry-Francis, who is on loan from Arsenal, scoops the player-of-the-match accolade. 📱Updates: 📺Watch: — RTÉ Sport (@RTEsport) October 14, 2024 "So even when you look at that Shelbourne midfield at the moment, and it is quite strong - I thought JJ Lunney and Kerr McInroy played quite well at Windsor Park but they're fairly similar, both left footed, both like to sit deep and get on the ball and play a little bit, and then you have the attacking ones maybe Harry Wood and Ali Coote - I think he (Henry-Francis) is a mix of everything and he'll be a really good addition." A 1-1 draw against Linfield at Windsor Park last week saw Shelbourne win 2-1 on aggregate and advance to the second qualifying round of the Champions League. But the task will be daunting with the very seasoned Qarabag standing in their way, starting with Wednesday's first leg at Tolka Park. Joey O'Brien's side do have the fall back of the Europa League and Conference League should they fail to get past the Azerbaijani champions but if they are to get to a third round tie against either Romanian side FCSB or Macedonian outfit KF Shkendija, the home leg against Qarabag will be key. "I think for Shelbourne, if they have any chance whatsoever, they have to win the first leg," former Shamrock Rovers and Dundalk midfielder Richie Towell said on the podcast. "Even a draw at home, it's not really good enough. They're going to be going over to Azerbaijan (in the second leg), it will be an absolute nightmare of a flight getting over there, it's going to be 35, 36 degrees. It will be like a cauldron. "When I was at Shamrock Rovers, (Qarabag) was one of the teams that you think 'I hope we don't get them' because, one, you have the travel - absolute nightmare getting there and even getting back for your league games it's really hard - you have the weather; I remember we went over and played a match in Slovakia and like that it was 35 degrees and we were trying to warm up in a little corner of the pitch because it was shaded and when the game kicked off, we just sat in a low block the whole game. "So it was a nightmare. Shelbourne will be up against something similar. So if they have any realistic chance, they've got to go and attack the first leg. "Similar to against Linfield, they did, they came out really fast in the first leg. But as Alan said, they didn't put them away and they're not going to get half the chances that they did against Linfield as they will against Qarabag, and if they don't take them, they're going to be in for a really tough two-legged tie."
