7-Year-Old Girl Is Killed by Falling Boulder at Lake Tahoe Ski Resort
Medical aid was called at around 3:38 p.m. to the Diamond Peak Ski Resort where staff members began administering first aid before help arrived, according to a statement from the resort on Monday.
The child, whom the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office identified on Monday as Adelyn Grimes, died at the scene from her injuries.
The Washoe County Sheriff's Office and the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District responded to the call on Saturday. The Diamond Peak resort said that the child was not skiing at the time of the accident.
'The entire Diamond Peak Ski Resort family has been deeply affected' by the tragedy at the resort, it said.
The sheriff's office said it had conducted an initial investigation and determined that there was no foul play involved in the child's death, but that the case had not been closed.
Some were rallying around the girl's family.
'Addie was a shining star who brought immense joy and laughter to those who knew her,' read a page on Meal Train, a website where people can organize meals for loved ones, and which was apparently set up for Adelyn's parents and brother.

Teen sentenced to 10 months in custody for role in fatal stabbing of Halifax student
HALIFAX - A 17-year-old Halifax-area boy has been sentenced 10 months in a youth detention centre for his role in the stabbing death of a high school student during a brawl over a girl. Provincial youth court Judge Mark Heerema also sentenced the accused to 17 months of supervision in the community, during which he will continue receiving intensive rehabilitative treatment for mental health issues. The 27-month sentence was added to the 15 months the young offender has spent in custody since 16-year-old Ahmad Al Marrach was murdered in a parkade next to the Halifax Shopping Centre on April 22, 2024. The young offender pleaded guilty to manslaughter in October, having admitted he was one of four teens who attacked Al Marrach. All four accused were initially charged with second-degree murder, but a girl who was 14 at the time of the killing pleaded guilty to manslaughter in October and was sentenced to three months in custody followed by two years of supervision in the community. The boy who fatally stabbed Al Marrach, who was 14 at the time of the attack, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in January, and his sentencing hearing will resume Sept. 12. Meanwhile, another 17-year-old boy who the Crown said was responsible for organizing the fight, was convicted of manslaughter last month by a youth court judge. ‘Aggressive' river otters spark lawsuit from Washington mother
PORTLAND, Ore. () — A Washington mother is suing a Seattle-area port nearly a year after a river otter attacked her toddler. The woman filed the complaint against the Port of Bremerton in Kitsap County Superior Court on July 25. Court records show that she and her daughter, who was two years old at the time of the attack, live on a sailboat in the port-operated Bremerton Marina. Senate confirms Joe Kent, ex-Washington candidate with extremist ties, to lead counterterrorism unit on the incident in September 2024. On Sept. 12, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife revealed an otter had pulled the child into the water as she walked along the dock with their mom. According to the agency, the child eventually resurfaced after being pulled under water. WDFW said the otter bit the mother as she lifted her child from the water. The toddler was later treated at a Silverdale hospital, for the scratches and bites they had sustained on their head, face and legs. Subscribe Now The complaint alleges many of the on-site security cameras 'are inoperative at any given time,' while the plaintiff pays the port a monthly service fee of about $125. 'Prior to the attack, the Port of Bremerton had actual and repeated notice of otter activity on and around E Dock and had received complaints about their aggressive nature,' Attorney Christopher Froines wrote. 'Tenants and staff had lodged multiple complaints with the Port about aggressive otter behavior, including otters defecating on docks, damaging marina property, living on several abandoned or derelict boats, being aggressive toward marina tenants and posing a risk to public safety.' Froines also alleged another resident of the Bremerton Marina repeatedly complained to staff about related issues, such as an 'otter-infested and foul' boat and otters that created safety hazards by 'dragging 'fish guts and feces all over the docks.'' Oregon Bureau of Land Management timber sales made more than $13.5M in revenue in July But the lawsuit accuses management of failing to minimize 'wild animal activity.'
