Passengers scheduled to fly from Bhubaneswar to Delhi on Air India 's flight AI500 faced unexpected disruptions on Sunday as the airline cancelled the service due to a technical issue.The airline cited abnormal cabin temperatures on the ground as the reason behind the cancellation.In an official statement, an Air India Spokesperson said, "Flight AI500 scheduled to operate from Bhubaneswar to Delhi on 3 August has been cancelled due to a technical issue causing high cabin temperature on ground prior to the departure. Our airport team in Bhubaneswar is assisting the impacted passengers with alternative arrangements to fly them to their destination Delhi. We regret the inconvenience caused".The issue was identified while the aircraft was still on the tarmac, preventing it from taking off as scheduled.On July 31, the passengers of Air India flight AI2017, scheduled to fly from Delhi to London, experienced an unexpected delay after the aircraft aborted the takeoff and returned to the bay following a suspected technical issue.According to a statement issued by an Air India spokesperson, the cockpit crew made the decision to discontinue the take-off run in accordance with standard operating procedures."Flight AI2017 operating from Delhi to London on 31 July returned to bay due to a suspected technical issue. The cockpit crew decided to discontinue the take-off run following standard operating procedures and brought the aircraft back for precautionary checks. An alternative aircraft is being deployed to fly the passengers to London at the earliest. Our ground staff is extending all support and care to the guests to minimise inconvenience caused due to this unexpected delay. At Air India, the safety and well-being of our passengers remain the top priority," the Air India spokesperson said.

" The aircraft had taken off from San Francisco at 8.28pm (local time) on Aug 2. The cockroach trouble happened as it flew to Kolkata, where it arrived after about 16 hours. "...Two passengers were unfortunately bothered by the presence of a few small cockroaches on board. Our cabin crew, therefore, relocated the two to other seats...," an Air India spokesperson said. "During the flight's scheduled fuel stop in Kolkata, our ground crew promptly conducted a deep cleaning process to address the issue. The same aircraft subsequently departed in time for Mumbai. Despite our regular fumigation efforts, insects can sometimes enter an aircraft during ground operations... We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused," the spokesperson added.

This is the latest in a series of embarrassments in recent months that the airline has had to face over hygiene, service, maintenance and safety issues. Passengers on board flight AI 180, which took off from San Francisco around 8 am local time on Saturday, encountered 'bug-turbulence' mid-air. Two passengers affected by the presence of "a few small cockroaches" were relocated to other seats, the airline said. The carrier also said a deep cleaning of the aircraft was undertaken during a technical halt in Kolkata in the early hours of Monday for refuelling. However, Kolkata airport officials disputed this, stating the plane landed at 12.33 am on Monday and departed at 2.30 am, and that passengers had not alighted from the aircraft, something that is necessary for deep cleaning. On Sept 28, 2024, a passenger reported cockroaches in food served on a Delhi-New York flight. Earlier, on April 20, 2024, one Uddhav Poddar took to social media to post photographs of roaches in the business class of flight AI 382 from Delhi to Singapore. Issues with cockroaches are not unique to Air India, with passengers also complaining about cockroaches on IndiGo and Akasa Airlines flights. However, the frequency of complaints on AI flights, including delays, cancellations and service and maintenance concerns, has intensified pressure on the airline. Air India is already under scrutiny following the Dreamliner crash in June and findings of various safety violations in an audit by DGCA. The San Francisco-Mumbai flight had previously experienced a left-engine snag on June 17, which forced the grounding of the aircraft. Passengers had been accommodated on other Mumbai-bound flights.
