Holidaymakers urged to be ‘vigilant' as European police crack down on speeding
The AA issued the advice as forces are carrying out more speed checks this week.
The initiative, co-ordinated by traffic police network Roadpol, coincides with the main UK school holiday, which is one of the busiest periods of the year for families driving on the continent.
Some forces are focusing their extra speed checks at accident blackspots and in high-risk areas such as near schools and hospitals.
Roadpol has not revealed which countries are taking part in the crackdown, but more than 20 European countries participated in a similar operation in April.
Edmund King, AA president, said: 'UK drivers taking their cars to Europe this summer need to be extra vigilant and stick to the speed limits.
'Getting caught speeding abroad can be costly and in more extreme cases can mean suspension of your driving licence.
'Some drivers get into holiday mode as soon as they cross the Channel. They relax and sometimes this means not following the speed limits.
'We advise drivers to always stick to the limits but note that European police will be out in force this week targeting speeding drivers.'

Kia Sportage - 27,494 units 10 This family SUV from the Korean automobile manufacturer retained second place for the third consecutive month. At the end of 2022, it entered its fifth generation, and still looks a fresh and modern vehicle. Peugeot 2008 - 17,605 units The French firm offers style, frugal hybrid trains and electric options with this model. The Peugeot 2008 also provides generation standard equipment for its price. A woman who has visited 26 European cities has shared her thoughts on what was the worst to visit, and the best. From Birmingham to Seville, US-born Charlie Seville has explored a range of cities around Europe. And she's now ranked the multiple destinations based on her personal opinion on the 'food, vibe affordability, and overall experience'. 'These are just my opinions based on my own experiences travelling across Europe,' Charlie captioned a post on her TikTok account, @charliewallace64. 'Some of these takes might be controversial but that's what makes travel personal. 'I've visited 26+ European cities, from the classics to the underrated gems, and ranked them from worst to best based on food, vibe, affordability, and overall experience. Let me know which city you think deserves to be higher (or lower)!' The worst destination on Charlie's rankings was Catania, Italy which only received a rating of three out of ten. She felt the city was 'rough around the edges' and described it as 'run down, dirty and surprisingly hard to find great food in'. Despite not finding much to do except for walking around the city centre, Charlie did note there were 'breathtaking views of Mount Etna'. The second worst on Charlie's list was much closer to home - Birmingham. Rated just 3.2 out of ten, the traveller left the British city, located in the West Midlands, disappointed. 'Birmingham just hasn't left a mark on me,' she penned. Charlie explained how she felt it 'lacks charm and cohesion' and described the centre as 'bland'. However, she did acknowledge recommendations from people that she returns in December when the city comes to life with bright and festive Christmas markets. Another UK city, Manchester, was next, scoring only 3.8 out of ten. Charlie was dismayed at the 'grey skies, drizzle and bitter temperatures'. She also felt the attractions of the area were 'scattered throughout Greater Manchester, which isn't ideal for visitors'. A European tourist hotspot, Prague in Czechia came next scoring a disappointing four out of ten. Charlie explained it 'felt very overrated' and was 'overrun with tourists'. Many visit the area to see Prague Castle and Charles Bridge, which the traveller felt 'didn't quite match the hype'. However, she noted 'it was affordable and had interesting bits of history'. Meanwhile, Krakow, Poland ranked 16th, with a mediocre score of 6.3 out of ten. Charlie acknowledged the Polish city was 'affordable, walkable, and really charming' but felt it was small and easily covered in a couple of days. At the other end of the scale, Charlie ranked Bath 9.3 out of ten, gushing over how 'stunning' the British city is, leaving it in third place. 'The sandy-coloured stone buildings and sweeping Georgian architecture give the city such a timeless elegance,' Charlie wrote. She added that she loved 'how full of character it is' and raved over the 'independent boutiques, cosy cafes, and some truly fantastic restaurants'. London came second on Charlie's list with an impressive 9.6 out of ten score. Despite living in the British capital for four years, Charlie insisted 'I'm still not bored'. 'It's the ultimate melting pot of cultures, cuisines, styles, and ideas,' she penned. Though the city can be 'fast-paced and intense at times', Charlie emphasised 'it still has my heart'. Brabus-tuned Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet turns up for sale

The current bid is $330,000, and there are 6 days left before the auction ends. This 992 Turbo S has the Brabus 820 package, encompassing carbon fiber bodywork, mechanical upgrades courtesy of the Brabus PowerXtra P38S-820 performance package, and a new interior. The seller claims these represent about $200,000 in upgrades, contributing to an original sale price of $499,998. With six days to go in the auction, the high bid for this 1,600-mile car hadn't gotten quite that high, though. Even More Power The performance package includes a Brabus-specific exhaust system, ECU, and blow-off valves, taking output to 820 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque, increases of 180 hp and 130 lb-ft over the stock output of the Turbo S' twin-turbocharged 3.7-liter flat-six. Brabus claims this upgrade drops the zero to 60 mph time from 2.7 seconds to 2.5 seconds, and increases the top speed from 205 mph to 211 mph. Brabus retained the eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transaxle, all-wheel drive system, and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control suspension with front-end lift. The hood, front bumper trim, side skirts, engine cover, front and rear spoilers, and rear diffuser are all carbon fiber under Jet Black Metallic paint. The car also wears center-locking Brabus wheels, sized 21 inches in front and 22 inches in the back, with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Inside, the Brabus Masterpiece Leather Conversion package (a $66,000 option when new, according to the seller) is perfect for fans of black and red. There's plenty of carbon-fiber trim in here as well, including on the Brabus-branded steering wheel. The conversion maintains the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system as well. 911 Evolution This low-mileage tuner car represents the current generation of 911 Turbo, but that's not going to be the case for long. Porsche unveiled a refreshed 911—dubbed 992.2—for the 2025 model year with hybrid powertrains, but the automaker kept the 911 Turbo and Turbo S as-is for that model year. During Porsche's half-year earnings call, CEO Oliver Blume confirmed that a refreshed 911 Turbo with a hybrid powertrain is on the way. It will be unveiled later this year, meaning it will likely be considered a 2026 model when it reaches the United States. We can't wait to see what Brabus does with it.
