The Ubiquitous Chip in Glasgow to close for 'some TLC'
The doors are scheduled to reopen in mid-September, with an enhanced visual appeal, fresh menus and extended opening hours.
Will Allen, general manager at The Chip, said: 'The Chip has always been a place full of life – and over the years, that life has left its mark. This restoration is about caring for an establishment that locals and visitors to Glasgow hold dear.
'We're ensuring it's ready for the decades, generations and many more memorable moments to come within its walls.

Ronnie Clydesdale founded the Ubiquitous Chip in 1971 with partner Ian Brydon. Both contributed £500 to the venture; Ronnie's share was his redundancy from the Black & White whisky bond where he was a manager. Entirely self-taught, he pioneered the trend for using local, seasonal Scottish produce and was first to put the provenance of his ingredients on the menu.
The restaurant was initially located in Ruthven Lane before moving to Ashton Lane in 1976.
It has welcomed many famous diners and even served Princess Margaret lunch and Mick Jagger dinner on the same day.
Other famous faces include Michael Keaton, Billy Connolly, Kylie Minogue, Keira Knightley and Lewis Capaldi.
In 2022, it was bought over by the Metropolitan Pub Company, a subsidiary of Suffolk-based firm Greene King.

Meanwhile, Chris, 45, has starred in some of Hollywood's biggest productions, including This Is 40, Thor: The Dark World, Gulliver's Travels and St. Vincent. The couple have two children, sons Art, 11, and Valentine, who is eight years old. The family returned to London last Summer after living in Los Angeles for the past eight years. This isn't the first time Dawn has opened up about her financial woes as she previously alluded to living quite a humble lifestyle. While appearing on the White Wine Question Time podcast with Kate Thornton, she explained: 'I've never seen myself as a celebrity. 'Even though I'm married to Chris, who is quite a well-known actor, I don't think either of us have ever seen ourselves as celebrities. 'I guess if I was a celebrity, I'd get paid lots of money to do things that aren't necessarily my job or don't really feed what I do, but I don't. My job is writing, with the occasional little ad on Instagram to pay the rent.' After struggling to find her place in the bright lights of Hollywood, Dawn decided to return to the UK but it wasn't smooth sailing. She recounted: 'We were living in LA and I just said to Chris, I've got to go back to London to try and claw back my career. 'And we came back to London for a bit and I'd go for these meetings at TV production companies and I'd been successful. 'I had my own series on Channel 4… and they'd be like, 'What do you want to do?' and I was like, 'I want to do what I do'. But no one wanted to employ me.' The mum-of-two had a regular column with Stylist magazine which she was dropped by and that really affected her confidence. 'I was cool. I had my own show on Channel 4… then as my career just kind of… declined, I think they looked at me and were like, well she's just not that interesting anymore,' Dawn revealed, 'It was the final blow to my confidence. I was absolutely on the floor because I always felt that writing would be the thing that saved me. Dawn released her first novel in 2013, Paper Aeroplanes, which is a fictional story loosely inspired by her upbringing in Guernsey. The health expert, who is celebrating the release of his third novel Under Darkening Skies, spoke candidly about their mutual appreciation for each other's written work and gave a glimpse into what it's like to work with Lorraine off-air. In an exclusive conversation with he disclosed: "Oh, she's lovely. Lorraine - people often say, 'What is Lorraine really like?' and I say she's exactly as she comes across. "She's engaging, she's interested in people, she's genuine, and she's great fun. I've worked with her for over 35 years, and she's written her books as well, so we've read each other's books." Under Darkening Skies will hit the shelves on July 31st, as reported by the Express. These revelations from Dr Hilary emerge amidst ITV's announcement of significant scheduling changes, including alterations to the broadcast frequency of Lorraine's show. Starting from 2026, Lorraine will air for only 30 weeks per year, a change that will also affect Loose Women. Lorraine's airtime is set to be halved, with Good Morning Britain extending by an extra half-hour ending at 9:30am. In the new schedule, on days without Lorraine, GMB will broadcast from 6am until 10am. Kevin Lygo, director of ITV's media and entertainment division, shared his thoughts on the changes: "Daytime is a really important part of what we do, and these scheduling and production changes will enable us to continue to deliver a schedule providing viewers with the news, debate and discussion they love from the presenters they know and trust as well generating savings which will allow us to reinvest across the programme budget in other genres. "These changes also allow us to consolidate our news operations and expand our national, international and regional news output and to build upon our proud history of trusted journalism at a time when our viewers need accurate, unbiased news coverage more than ever. "I recognise that our plans will have an impact on staff off-screen in our Daytime production teams, and we will work with ITV Studios and ITN as they manage these changes to produce the shows differently from next year, and support them through this transition. "Daytime has been a core element of ITV's schedule for over 40 years and these changes will set ITV up to continue to bring viewers award-winning news, views and discussion as we enter our eighth decade."
