Tough Ashes series awaits England, warns Australian batter Steve Smith
The ease of batting in the ongoing India-England has become a topic of debate and Smith believes the British batters shouldn't get too used to batting-friendly pitches.
The two teams have managed to score more than 500 runs in an innings at least once and have consistently put on board runs in excess of 400.
"Their (England) batters are going to be challenged a little bit differently to the wickets they have had over in England for a while, which have looked pretty flat and good for batting," Smith was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
"The wickets in Australia in the last three or four years have been very tricky for top order batters. It is going to be a good challenge for them. But it's going to be a wonderful series." As part of preparation for the Ashes, Smith is keeping a close eye on England's clash with India.
"I have been watching the India and England series and there has been some great cricket played there, so I think the Ashes this year is going to be an absolute belter," he said.
Smith feels England have curbed down their all-out attacking approach and look more focussed on winning matches than entertaining fans.
"They have started to play a little bit differently in the last couple of weeks in terms of playing the situation, as opposed to going out and trying to be the entertainers that they said they wanted to be," Smith said.
"They are actually trying to win the games now which is perhaps different to what was said in their comments previously." Australia's T20 squad is currently in the middle of a five-match series against the West Indies, but Smith, who will captain Welsh Fire in the upcoming Hundred tournament, is in England.
Though he retired from ODIs after the Champions Trophy in February this year, Smith desires to continue playing the shortest format till 2028 Los Angels Games, where cricket will make its comeback, to become an Olympian.
"I decided to stop playing one-day cricket so I can play more franchises, with the aim to make the Olympic team," Smith said.
"So to play more shorter-form tournaments around the world is only going to be beneficial. It has been a long run for me, and I have been doing this for a long time. I am still enjoying it and particularly the shorter formats and want to keep putting my name out there.

Time and again, he has publicly acknowledged Bumrah's influence, both as a leader and as a benchmark for excellence in the fast-bowling group. Prasidh on the camaraderie Prasidh Krishna also acknowledged Jasprit Bumrah's role from the sidelines, stating that the off-the-field rapport essentially built the trust factor in matches. Prasidh had also spent significant time with Bumrah when both were undergoing rehab at the NCA in 2023. 'Booms (Bumrah) has been a great part of this. I think it's really important for us to enjoy each other's success, to have that rapport off the field, so when you're on the field, speaking to each other, you have that trust. Marcus Trescothick slams Akash Deep's ‘strange' send-off to Ben Duckett: ‘No need to walk him off like that'
The fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 between England and India at the Oval in London is turning out to be a battle of attrition with players of both sides fighting it out both on and off the field. With multiple instances of verbal altercations between Indian players and their English counterparts, the Test is set for a thrilling finish. The major talking point of Day 2 play was Indian pacer Akash Deep. The right-arm fast bowler punched the air after getting England opener Ben Duckett caught behind before putting his arm around the batter's shoulder and walking a few steps with him, giving a send-off. It was Duckett's comments, 'you can't get me out', to Akash Deep which prompted this send-off from the Indian bowler. England assistant coach Marcus Trescothick has criticised Akash Deep for his actions and said, 'There is no need to walk him off in that fashion. Your job is done at that point. I don't think I've ever seen a bowler do that after getting someone out. It was strange really,' said Trescothick as quoted by Sky Sports. Trescothick made some animated gestures in the dressing room, and explaining that, he said, 'We were chatting on the balcony. Many in my time would have just dropped the elbow on him or something quite different. I was just laughing and joking about it.' Duckett was at the centre of another incident where he was involved in enraging Sai Sudharsan following his dismissal in India's second innings. The other incident was between Joe Root and Prasidh Krishna, where the duo exchanged words during England's first innings. Speaking on Root animated chat, Trescothick said: 'I think they made a comment didn't they? He (Krishna) tried to get after him and spark him up a little bit. Joe's normally the kind of guy who laughs and giggles and allows things to happen, but today he chose a different route. Today Joe bit back.'

I was just fixing my hair, and people started saying all sorts of cheap things, like we were coming out of a hotel room. That really hurt me. It was very upsetting." Yuzvendra Chahal and RJ Mahvash first sparked dating rumours when they were spotted together on multiple occasions amid the cricketer's split from his ex-wife, Dhanashree Verma. Despite Mahvash's constant denial of a romantic relationship, photos and videos of them together at a Champions Trophy match fueled the dating rumour. Over time, their interactions have become more affectionate, with Mahvash praising Chahal's IPL performances and Chahal referring to her as his rock during the tough times in his life.
