In a significant boost to administrative infrastructure, Kalaburagi district is set to receive newly approved Praja Soudhas – the taluk administrative complexes – for four of its taluks – Kalagi, Yadrami, Kamalapur, and Shahabad. These buildings are envisioned to house all the taluk level offices under one roof.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah officially handed over the administrative approval letters for the construction of these facilities to Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum during a meeting of Deputy Commissioners and Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officers in Bengaluru on Friday.
Expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for sanctioning the buildings to his home district, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister and Kalaburagi in charge Priyank Kharge, in a Facebook post, said that the establishment of such integrated service centres under one roof would significantly benefit citizens in streamlining access to government services and making administration more accessible and efficient for the public.

Every officer must understand Constitution in order to implement its objectives: Karnataka CM

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday emphasised that every officer must understand the Constitution, failing which it would be impossible to implement its objectives. Inaugurating a training programme for KAS taluk nodal officers at the Administrative Training Institute (ATI) here, he said that liberty, equality, and fraternity are the ideals of the Constitution. 'Even after 75 years of its implementation and 78 years since independence, its objectives remain unfulfilled. Equal opportunities are still a dream. Equality and fraternity have not been fully realised. We must ask ourselves why it is so and look for solutions,' he said. Recalling B.R. Ambedkar's historic speech on November 25, 1949, – the first day of the Constitution's adoption, he pointed out that Ambedkar had warned, 'We are entering a society with inequalities and contradictions. If we do not remove these inequalities, the oppressed people will destroy the edifice of democracy.' 'This is a warning for every officer. It is everyone's responsibility to protect democracy. Ambedkar cautioned what will happen if we fail in our responsiblity,' he noted. Mr. Siddaramaiah said the country has many castes and religions. 'Buddha, Basavanna, and Ambedkar — all worked for establishing a casteless society, yet caste has not disappeared. That is why Lohia said ours is a motionless society. Society becomes dynamic only when everyone achieves social and economic power.' The Chief Minister asked, 'There is a belief that KAS officers are intellectuals. But how many of you have critical thinking? How many of you have developed scientific temper? You need to introspect pragmatically.' 'Even educated people believe in fate and the theory of karma. Does God creates such inequalities?,' he questioned. He observed that unlike politicians who seek mandate every five years, officers do not face such a situation, and therefore they have a greater responsibility to implement people-centric programmes of the government. 'A society with greater purchasing power grows economically,' the Chief Minister opined, adding that the government's guarantee schemes have improved the financial strength and purchasing capacity of the people. 'Our society has many talented individuals who lack opportunities. When opportunities are provided to them, there is no scope for exploitation,' Mr. Siddaramaiah observed. He concluded his speech stating that inequality will persist as long as communal riots, fake news, caste oppression, and religious oppression continue. Minister in charge of Mysuru district H.C. Mahadevappa, Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh, in charge Secretary D. Ranadeep, president of KAS Officers' Association Shivaswamy, and others were present.

Dharmasthala murders: Will not yield to any pressure, says K'taka CM

Mysuru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Friday that his government will not yield to any pressure regarding the handling of the alleged Dharmasthala murders case. Dharmasthala is a famous Hindu pilgrimage centre in Karnataka. Responding to demands by a retired judge for an SIT probe, he said the government will take legal action in the matter. "We can't take action by ignoring the law." "The individual connected to the case came forward and gave a statement to the police after remaining absconding for ten years. He has recorded his statement before the authorities. In his statement he had stated that he had buried dead bodies and he is ready to show the places. The government will consult the police department and then decide on setting up an SIT. The investigation will proceed strictly according to the law, and the government will not yield to any kind of pressure,' CM Siddaramaiah assured. On July 11, the unidentified complainant, who had claimed that he was forced to bury several bodies of women who were raped and murdered in Dharmasthala village appeared before a court in Karnataka's Mangaluru district, and recorded his statement. The man submitted his statement under Section 183 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) before Principal Civil Judge and First Class Judicial Magistrate Sandesh K. He was accompanied by a group of lawyers and police personnel and entered the court with his face covered. The development had sparked a major controversy. He requested that the police exhume the bodies in his presence. The complainant also sought protection for himself and his family. According to his statement, he fled Dharmasthala 11 years ago. He further alleged that the bodies of the women showed clear signs of sexual assault. They were found without clothes or undergarments and bore injuries suggesting violent acts. The revelations have shocked the state. A retired Supreme Court judge and activists demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe monitored by the Supreme Court or the High Court into the shocking murders involving many women and others.

Youth Congress should protect constitutional values, remain committed to ideology, says Karnataka CM

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed the Youth Congress office-bearers here on Friday, and described them as soldiers committed to protect the constitutional values of socialism and secularism. He was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of Youth Congress functionaries and the 'Yuva Shakti Pratijne 2025' event. The Chief Minister said all those who did not compromise on Congress' ideology has succeeded politically and hence urged the Youth Congress members to remain wedded to the values of the Congress and stand with the party. 'Those who compromise, do not survive or grow politically,' he added. Mr. Siddaramaiah alleged that the Sangh Parivar was conspiring to obliterate secularism and socialism from the Constitution, and said that the BJP was opposed to the concepts of social justice since its inception. 'I am confident that the youth of the State and the country will stand firm and lead the fight to defeat this conspiracy of the BJP and the Sangh Parivar,' he said. Describing the BJP as a party whose ideology was not compatible with the Indian society, the Chief Minister said that it follows a view that divides the society, while the JD(S) was not only devoid of any ideology, but had presence in only small pockets. Mr. Siddaramaiah said that it was the Congress that implemented the Mandal Commission report, and it provided reservations in education and employment while the 'Manuvadis' opposed it. He further said that it was the Congress that provided women's reservation, and while Rajiv Gandhi brought a constitutional amendment to provide 35% reservation for women, Sonia Gandhi fought hard to raise this to 50%. Speaking about India's freedom struggle, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that the Congress spearheaded the movement, while the right wing forces represented by RSS and others, joined hands with the British. ''Though RSS was formed in 1925, neither Hedgewar nor Guruji (Golwalkar) took part in the freedom movement. Youth Congress members must remember this aspect of history. The political outfit of the RSS was Jan Sangh, later renamed as the BJP. These people talk aggressively about patriotism, but stayed away from the freedom struggle. They never stood for the nation,' he added. The Chief Minsiter referred to the speeches of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the concept of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas. 'But the reality is that the BJP has never tried to take Indian society forward together. The party has 240 Members of Parliament but not a single one is from the minority communities. They never respect B.R. Ambedkar, nor honour the Constitution he gave us,' Mr. Siddaramaiah added. He said that Congress was the only party truly committed to the spirit and values of the Constitution, and urged the Youth Congress members to highlight the role of Savarkar in the defeat of Ambedkar in the 1952 elections.
