Soccer-Neymar extends contract with Santos until end of the year
(Reuters) -Brazilian forward Neymar has signed a six-month contract extension with Santos, his boyhood club announced on Tuesday.
The deal means the 33-year-old remains with Santos until the end of the year, with the possibility of renewing after it expires.
"I made a decision and I listened to my heart. Santos is not just my team; it is my home, my roots, my history and my life. I grew up here and became a man here. I am truly loved here. Here I can be myself and be truly happy," Neymar said in a statement.
Since returning to Santos in January, Neymar has only played in four Brazilian Championship matches due to a thigh injury that left him sidelined for more than a month. He also tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month.
Santos are currently 15th in the Brazilian Serie A table.

The sale signals the Berlusconi family's retreat from soccer, following the death in 2023 of Silvio Berlusconi, the four-time Italian Prime Minister and media tycoon. Silvio Berlusconi, who previously owned seven-time European champions AC Milan, took over Monza in 2018 when they were playing in Italy's third-tier in a deal reportedly worth just 3 million euros. Led by former AC Milan executive Adriano Galliani, Monza, a city just north of Milan, secured their first Serie A promotion in 2022 but finished in last place last season. That relegation forced Fininvest, the holding company of the Berlusconis, to write down the club's book value by 70% to 30 million euros. Under the deal, Beckett Layne Ventures will acquire an 80% stake in the club, with Fininvest initially retaining a 20% holding before a full exit by June 2026. Since Berlusconi took over the club, Monza have racked up losses of 270 million euros. In 2024 alone, the loss was 48 million euros. Monza is the latest Italian soccer club sold to a U.S. investor. Besiktas says ‘in talks' to sign Tammy Abraham
TURKISH giants Besiktas on Tuesday said they were entering talks to sign English striker Tammy Abraham who is currently under contract with Serie A side AS Roma. 'Negotiations have begun with the player and his club AS Roma SPA regarding the transfer of professional football player Kevin Oghenetega Tamaraebi Bakumo-Abraham,' the Istanbul club said in a statement using his full name. The 27-year-old currently has a year left of his contract with the Italian club. Italian media reports said the talks were about a loan. 'Hello Black Eagles, I'm coming for you, see you at the airport,' Abraham said in a video on board the club's private plane that was posted on its Instagram account. He was expected to arrive in Turkey's largest city later on Tuesday. Abraham signed for Serie A club AS Roma in August 2021 on a five-year contract after a move from Premier League club Chelsea for a fee of 41 million euros (£35 million, $48 million) and was an integral member of the side that won the 2022 Europa Conference League trophy. The former England international recently concluded a stint on loan with Roma's rivals AC Milan for the 2024-25 season, scoring 10 goals in all competitions.

Man City, Inter Milan crash out of Club World Cup in last 16
MANCHESTER City crashed out of the Club World Cup with a 4-3 defeat in extra-time by Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal on Monday in the last 16, hours after Inter Milan were eliminated by Fluminense on a day of shock results. Champions League runners-up Inter were dumped out 2-0 by the Brazilian side in Charlotte and Pep Guardiola's City joined them after Marcos Leonardo's brace left the Premier League giants on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller. Al Hilal, who recorded one of the greatest results in Middle Eastern football history, will face Fluminense in Orlando on Friday in the quarter-finals. City were the only side to win all three group matches, including a thrashing of Juventus, but came undone in Florida against an Al Hilal side filled with players who once starred for European teams. Guardiola's team were the defending champions, having won the trophy in 2024 in its previous format, but were matched blow-for-blow by Al Hilal at the Camping World Stadium. Former Inter coach Simone Inzaghi's side showed their quality in the group stage as they held Spanish giants Real Madrid to a draw, but few expected they could derail City's charge towards the trophy.
