Radio Club marina work begins; upset locals to move court

to barricade a portion of the eastern waterfront between the Gateway of India and Radio Club to start construction of piles for the Rs 190-crore state-of-the-art marina that will have capacity to anchor around 20 public passenger boats.
The project is expected to be completed in a couple of years, MMB officials said.

have decided to move court against the upcoming jetty. Colaba resident and advocate Prerak Choudhary said they had sought 27 documents, including traffic analysis and expert reports, from BMC and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board under the MRTP Act, as well as affidavits and indemnities submitted to Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority, but did not receive any of them. "Hence, we have been forced to move court," he said.

, said on seeing the barricades, upset residents wrote in chalk at the promenade: "Shift the jetty" and "Colaba stands united", but were asked to erase them. "How can they barricade the pavements after giving an assurance that the marina work will not begin until residents are provided with all 27 documents," said Dsouza, adding that no work order was produced till they insisted on it.
AGNI coordinator of A ward Jennifer Shetty claimed that the Archaeological Survey of India nod has lapsed for the marina project, but MMB officials said renewed permission has been issued.

BMTC rolls out 148 non-AC e-buses with safety, eco-friendly upgrades
The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) on Friday announced the induction of 148 non-AC electric buses from Tata Motors Ltd for public service, along with the launch of new routes under express services and package tours. The first phase of this induction was marked by the ceremonial flag-off of 10 non-AC electric buses by State Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy. By further expanding its fleet of electric buses, BMTC has taken a significant step towards promoting public transport and combating rising vehicular pollution in Bengaluru. As of now, BMTC operates a total of 1,436 electric buses across various routes in the city, it said. 'These additional 148 new non-AC electric buses, supplied by TML (Tata Motors Ltd) Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd, are being operated under the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model for a contractual period of 12 years at a rate of Rs 41.01 per kilometre per bus, inclusive of electricity charges,' BMTC said in a statement. 'Financial assistance of Rs 39.08 lakh per bus has been extended under the Directorate of Urban & Land Transport (DULT) and the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) scheme,' it added. According to BMTC, the operation of these electric buses is instrumental in preventing the emission of approximately 2.07 lakh kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere and contributes to saving nearly 77,000 litres of diesel daily, thereby bolstering the city's green transport initiatives.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant chaired the 206th board meeting of the GSIDC on important infrastructure projects aimed at public convenience, urban rejuvenation, and institutional development were approved during the meeting, said a state government projects include a new boys' hostel at the Goa Medical College in Bambolim for an estimated cost of Rs 113 crore and the demolition and reconstruction of a bridge at St Estevam village in North Goa at a cost of Rs 21 GSIDC also approved the development of the old bus stand at Margao in South Goa at an estimated cost of Rs 12 crore, upgradation of the municipal market at Sankhalim and redevelopment of old government buildings in chief minister addressing the Board said these projects were part of the state government's commitment to upgrading civic infrastructure, improving public utility spaces, and building modern, accessible facilities for emphasised that the GSIDC continues to play a pivotal role in shaping Goa's infrastructure with quality and speed and that the government is committed to delivering timely and efficient public infrastructure for Viksit Goa 2037.
