, the singer-guitarist known for such 1990s alternative rock hits as 'Girlfriend' and 'Sick of Myself,' suffered a debilitating stroke in October 2024 while on tour with Hanson in Canada.
In wake of that stroke, Sweet's management team created a GoFundMe account for the musician to help pay for the tremendous costs for his medical care, rehab and to renovate his home so it is physically accessible to the musician, who is now wheelchair bound.

To make matters worse, Sweet's wife, who was trained to take over as his primary caretaker once he moved back into their Omaha, Neb. home, suffered a fall and severely broke her leg, requiring her to have immediate surgery and round-the-clock nursing care along with Matthew.
Sweet's manager Russell Carter, took to Facebook on Friday, June 6 to share the news and ask for more support from his fans, although more than $600,000 has been raised to date.
'To begin, Matthew wants all of you to know that he would not be where he is today without your profoundly generous support. A day does not pass without him acknowledging how lucky he is to have caring family, friends, music business associates and fans,' he wrote.
Carter added some details about Sweet's current physical condition.
'Matthew is wheelchair bound due to a lack of coordination in his legs (caused by stroke induced ataxia) and he does not have sufficient coordination in his hands to even try to play instruments. He cannot at this time use a walker. He also has coordination issues with his eyes which impairs his sight. While his speaking voice is only slightly impaired, he cannot sing. Doctors still cannot give Matthew a prognosis for the future which means he must soldier on daily with determination and engage in therapy hoping for the best but without knowing what the eventual outcome will be. This is a very hard predicament to endure,' he explained.
Carter added that most of the money raised through the initial GoFundMe campaign has been spent and Sweet, 60, still has some remaining hospital bills that need to be paid, so he's asking for fans to donate again, if they can.
'If you can donate again to his fund, he can continue to work hard on his rehab at home and at out patient facilities and he can continue to pay his bills until one day he can hopefully return to being a self sustaining working musician,' he added. 'In the meantime , donations will go strictly to covering his basic recurring monthly expenses. Any continued support is very much appreciated.''90s Alt-Rocker Felled by Medical Emergency Still Needs Your Help Amid Recovery first appeared on Parade on Jun 6, 2025

CBS Revisits 'Beyond the Gates' Premiere Week in Special Broadcast Event originally appeared on Parade. CBS is doing something interesting for fans of Beyond the Gates, as the newest soap opera to the lineup will take viewers back to where it all began next week. Instead of airing new episodes, CBS will be repeating the first five episodes of Beyond the Gates the week of June 30 - July 4. With the drama expected to continue with new episodes beginning July 7th. Beyond the Gates aired a trailer before it's launch back in January teasing the series. CBS officially describes Beyond the Gates as a soap opera that is 'set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, D.C., in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States; a posh gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions to call home. At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty. But behind these pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered. And those who live outside these gates are watching closely. These are the places where our characters live, love, work and play. Those who have 'made it' and those who haven't are all trying to navigate life … and some with more grace than others.' Beyond the Gates has a cast of over thirty contracted actors. The soap is anchored by the Dupree family, starring Clifton Davis (Vernon Dupree), Tamara Tunie (Anita Dupree), Karla Mosley (Dani Dupree), and Daphnée Duplaix (Nicole Richardson), and their respective families. Beyond The Gates is developed and produced by CBS Studios and the NAACP in partnership with P&G Studios a division of Procter and Gamble. The series is the groundbreaking first hour-long black soap opera to premiere in daytime. The creation is the brainchild of award-winning showrunner Michele Val Jean, in association with executive producer Sheila Ducksworth, and is the first new soap opera to premiere since NBC debuted Passions back in 1999. Beyond The Gates airs weekdays at 2 p.m. EST on CBS and streamed daily on Paramount Plus. Beyond the Gates can be streamed from the beginning on Paramount Plus. Two Colorado freshman to appear in EA Sports' College Football 26
I'm officially In The Game #CFB26 @easportscollege #EAAthlete. #Blessed In the NIL era, players relish the opportunities they receive to make a profit off their name, but there is one deal that might trump any other. That is the ability to play as yourself in a video game, or more specifically, EA Sports' latest installment, College Football 2026. On Friday, incoming Colorado freshmen London Merritt and Mantrez Walker announced they'll be in the soon-to-be-released game. The edge rusher and linebacker confirmed that their name, image and likeness will be included in the game, marking another milestone in their young careers. EA Sports brought back the popular college football franchise last year to widespread excitement from fans and players alike, eager to jump back into the game. New to this year's addition, all 136 Football Bowl Subdivision schools will be paid by EA Sports based on the frequency with which gamers play with their respective team. Real-life coaches are also being added to the game this year. Merritt and Walker are both Georgia natives, with Merritt being a blue-chip prospect once committed to Ohio State. Merritt appears to have significant potential with the Buffs, who lost several key pieces to their defensive line, most notably star defensive end BJ Green. Walker was a three-star prospect who has been with the Buffs for most of the offseason, but he projects as a likely depth piece entering his freshman season. Toast is one of those complete dishes that requires nothing more than a single ingredient—high-quality bread. It exists on its own and doesn't need anything extra to be a stunning anytime meal. You can enjoy it simply slathered with butter or jam, schmeared with cream cheese, or topped with a jammy egg, avocado, and chili crisp. It can stand on its own four corners or be the base of any number of delicious creations. So, what's not to love? 😋😋🍳🍔 Whether you enjoy it as a late-night snack, as an addition to your Waffle House All-Star Special, or as the start of a sweet treat when you're feeling too lazy to bake, toast essentially makes the world go round. Of course, toast without a spread, while still incredibly good, just isn't as exciting. Not that toast is bad but any stretch of the imagination, but sometimes things need a little extra encouragement. Maybe spreads actually make the world go round instead. Yeah, that sounds more accurate. Regardless, we love toast and spreads equally, but love when the two come together just a teensy bit for those of us with a sweet tooth, Target has plenty of delectable sweet spreads that taste great on their own, on top of toast, or as a dip for fruit, and @targettrendsetter is sharing all the deets. The Favorite Day Sweet Spreads are now available at Target, and shoppers are saying, 'Those look delicious!' These sweet spreads come in three flavors—s'mores, cookies and cream, and cocoa and popcorn. Each spread stuns when spread on toast or fruit, and can even be enjoyed straight up on a spoon.
