UAE's Fuze signs MoU with Oman's Mamun to facilitate trade finance via stablecoins
The agreement will enable both regional and international retail and institutional investors to participate in short-term, Sharia-compliant financing of trade-driven businesses using USDT (Tether's US dollar-pegged stablecoin). These businesses will then be able to access fiat financing in local currency to pay suppliers and support both domestic and cross-border trade. This aims to help enterprises tap into new sources of finance from a broader pool of investors, according to a press release.
The trade credit gap in the MENA region stands at an estimated $250bn, with the global figure exceeding $1tn. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are particularly affected, often underserved or excluded by traditional financial institutions. Meanwhile, the MENA region alone is home to over 40mn crypto investors, with an estimated holding value of $300bn – yet they have limited access to low-entry, high-yield, Sharia-compliant trade finance opportunities.
The partnership marks one of the region's first efforts to bridge regulated digital asset infrastructure with traditional private credit markets. Under this collaboration, Fuze will provide the digital asset rails – including on/off ramp solutions, custody and conversion – while Mamun will originate Sharia-compliant trade finance opportunities. The agreement will allow for swift and compliant settlements in SME trade financing and address pain points associated with the movement of capital across borders.
In a press release, Mo Ali Yusuf, CEO of Fuze, said, 'The alignment between Fuze and Mamun highlights a growing trend – the use of stablecoins like USDT not just for trading or remittance, but as a tool for working capital and liquidity in real-world finance.'
Mohammed al-Tamami, Chief Commercial Officer at Mamun, added, 'Bringing stablecoins into Sharia-compliant private credit opens new avenues for cross-border trade finance. At Mamun, we're not just innovating – we're aligning digital asset infrastructure with the capital needs of the real economy. This collaboration with Fuze allows us to better serve both investors and businesses.'
Mamun is an alternative finance and investment platform based in Oman, focused on transforming short-term trade finance into an investable asset class. Serving investors from over 45 countries, Mamun has facilitated nearly $10mn in Sharia-compliant trade financing since its launch in Q3 2023, and is targeting $20mn in 2025 alone.
Mamun's investor base includes retail participants, high-net-worth individuals, and family offices. Its microservices architecture also powers systems at Oman Housing Bank and three major telecommunications providers, demonstrating its capability to scale embedded finance infrastructure across multiple sectors.
Fuze is the MENA region's first regulated digital assets infrastructure provider of its kind, offering financial institutions and enterprises cutting-edge tools to integrate digital asset services securely and efficiently. Through a solutions-based approach, Fuze enables financial services providers to strategise, implement, and launch secure, regulated, world-class products across wealth management and payments.

Hong Kong seeks to broaden its economic relationship with Oman
MUSCAT, AUG 2 Hong Kong, a special administrative region of China, is in pursuit of establishing a strong business and trade relationship with GCC countries, including the Sultanate of Oman. Speaking to the Observer recently, Simon Chan, Director-General at the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Dubai said, "My office, as the official representative of the Hong Kong government in GCC, has been working with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Investment Promotion (MOCIIP) and the Oman Investment Authority (OIA) to help businesses from both sides to coordinate on investment and project financing opportunities. The volume of merchandise trade between Hong Kong and the Sultanate of Oman is around US$200 million. "We see the Sultanate of Oman in parallel with the GCC, which has a common goal when it comes to economic development by promoting investment. Hong Kong is open to trade agreements with the GCC, as well as bilateral agreements individually with any of these six countries, including the Sultanate of Oman." He was recently in the country to visit government institutions and companies, and promote Hong Kong's trade relations with Oman. He also attended a ceremony where OIA's Future Fund Oman (FFO) and Hong Kong-based private equity firm Templewater formed a US$200 million energy transition fund to spur investment. The fund will invest in strategic sectors such as clean molecules, green data centres, energy storage, smart mobility, and renewable energy, including solar and wind. It will also focus on industrial innovation, energy efficiency, and scalable technologies tailored for Oman and regional markets. During the visit, Chan and his team were also in touch with the national logistics company, Asiad, which has forged special trading relationships with big Asian markets like China and India. "We can provide them easy access to the Asean market and even within China itself. Hong Kong's unique advantages under the 'one country, two systems' principle will certainly provide arrangements that could facilitate international companies based in Hong Kong to do business not only in Hong Kong, but also in various cities in China." The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) is a regional grouping of 10 states in Southeast Asia to promote economic and security cooperation among its ten members: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. It is among the fastest-growing regions in the world, and also Hong Kong's second-largest trading partner. Omanis can benefit from investment in Hong Kong as it is a pro-business economy with regulations friendly and simple for both overseas companies and individuals. Hong Kong ranks as the world's freest economy by the Fraser Institute, and the world's third most competitive economy by Switzerland's IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook. "We have a one-stop service free of charge for investors, including help in opening a bank account, setting up office premises, and registration for any government procedures. The stock market in Hong Kong is very transparent, and the common law system and the international arbitration institution, in case of any disputes for companies that are new to Hong Kong. It may be noted that the passport holders of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) can visit Oman visa-free for a stay of up to 14 days, a move that will help strengthen the tourism, cultural, and economic ties. Omani citizens do not need a visa to enter Hong Kong for a limited period, which is around 30 days, but travellers need to ensure their passport is valid for at least six months beyond their intended stay in Hong Kong. As merchandise trade between Hong Kong and GCC amounted to over US$19.86 billion in 2024, Hong Kong sees GCC as one of the important regions of the Belt and Road Initiative, which aims to facilitate connectivity and unimpeded trade, promote people-to-people bonds, and advance financial integration and regional cooperation.

Etihad Airways accelerates growth with record aircraft deliveries
Abu Dhabi: Etihad Airways achieved a significant milestone in its fleet expansion programme with July 2025 becoming the busiest month for aircraft deliveries in the airline's 22-year history. Throughout July, Etihad took delivery of five aircraft, including its inaugural A321LR, two Boeing 787 Dreamliners, one Airbus A350-1000, and one Airbus A320ceo. This record-breaking month demonstrates the airline's commitment to rapid growth as it works towards its target to carry 38 million passengers annually by 2030. The five aircraft will significantly enhance Etihad's capacity across its expanding global network. Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said, "July has been a remarkable month for Etihad Airways. Taking delivery of five aircraft is our most intensive delivery programme to date and showcases our ambitious growth trajectory. These aircraft will enable us to serve more destinations, offer increased frequencies, and deliver the exceptional experiences our guests expect across our network." The delivery programme reflects Etihad's strategic approach to fleet modernisation, with each aircraft type serving specific network requirements. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner will support long-haul operations to destinations across Asia, Australia, and North America, while the Airbus A350-1000 will enhance capacity on high-demand routes. A particular highlight of July's deliveries was Etihad's first Airbus A321LR, which represents a significant milestone as the airline's inaugural aircraft of this type. Etihad defines luxury again with a revolutionary cabin configuration to Etihad's narrowbody operations, featuring dedicated First Suites alongside lie-flat Business seats, a first for narrowbody aircraft in the region, and enhanced Economy seating with seatback entertainment - bringing premium in-flight experiences to medium and short-haul routes. The deliveries bring Etihad's total fleet to 106 aircraft. The airline operates one of the world's youngest fleets, with an average aircraft age of 8.7 years, supporting operational efficiency and enhanced passenger experience. The aircraft deliveries support Etihad's recently announced network expansion, which includes 27 new destinations and increased frequencies across existing routes. The airline has experienced remarkable growth, carrying more than 20 million passengers in the last 12 months for the first time in its history, doubling passenger numbers from 2022 levels. Etihad's fleet expansion programme continues beyond July, with 20 additional aircraft per annum expected for delivery throughout 2025 and 2026. By expanding its fleet and network, Etihad Airways is strengthening Abu Dhabi's position as a global aviation hub and offering unparalleled travel experiences to millions of passengers worldwide.
