
Neurologist reveals 'miraculous' McDonalds menu item that can cure migraines
It's good news for McDonald's fans with scientists now claiming certain foods can help combat migraines and stop them in their tracks. According to Dr Jessica Lowe, there are two tasty items from the fast food chain that can help cure the dreaded headaches.
While most people turn to medication to relieve the pain, the US-based specialist took to TikTok and said all you need is a McDonald's large coke and fries.
Dr Lowe said she suffers with chronic migraines herself, and said this 'McDonald's migrane hack' is "well-known" to those who suffer as well.
She declared: "The order is a large Coke and a large fries. And this somehow miraculously makes your migraine go away."
The expert further detailed, "So first of all, a large Coke [roughly 950ml] from McDonald's has about 80 milligrams of caffeine in it. Right there is probably enough to stop your migraine in its tracks." Caffeine can help relieve severe headaches by constricting blood vessels in the brain, reducing inflammation and pressure.
Caffeine can also block the action of the neurotransmitter adenosine, which increases during migraine attacks and causes pain, and Dr Lowe added: "Also, McDonald's is well known to have some of the saltiest fries around. Salts, electrolytes. Easy."
It's believed that imbalances in electrolytes - which are essential minerals like sodium - can also trigger migraines, so eating more salty foods will increase your sodium intake, help alleviate migraine pain, and reduce the frequency of attacks for those who suffer badly.
"And then of course, fries or carbs. A lot of people have migraines that are provoked by hunger or just their glucose starting to drop, so those carbs are certainly gonna help out in that department," she said.
Of course, there is a downside - it's not a healthy remedy to cure a migraine, but there are other alternative ways. Dr Lowe stated that you can find between 60 to 65 mg of caffeine in over the counter migraine relief like Panmigrol.
"The dose is typically two. So that'll put you between 120 and 130 milligrams of caffeine. That's an easy way to get the caffeine components of this cocktail," she assured. The doctor also said having a sports drink such as a Powerade is another way to increase your electrolytes and will also reduce dehydration.
"But with that being said, you know, we are all human, and when you are feeling unwell, sometimes you just want some comfort food. I get it. Not knocking the hack, just don't make a habit of it," she concluded.

Hundreds attend Turner Syndrome Football Festival in Glasgow
More than 200 girls from across the West of Scotland arrived at Petershill Park in Springburn on Sunday, July 27, for the annual Turner Syndrome Awareness Football Festival. For the first time, teams had the chance to play across the entire complex in North Glasgow, which allowed even more girls to take part. Arlene Smyth, executive officer of the TSSS, highlighted the importance of early diagnosis. She said: "Events like these are absolutely essential in raising awareness of Turner Syndrome. "If a girl is not achieving expected growth or development, it's important not to ignore the signs -early diagnosis makes a real difference. 'We're grateful to everyone who helped make today possible." There is currently no cure, but treatment and support are available to help manage symptoms. It is understood that everyone with the condition is affected differently; however, it can impact growth, height, and general development. This year's football festival saw an increase of more than 50 per cent in attendance and was described as both a 'significant milestone' for girls' football and raising awareness of TS. Teams from Phoenix Girls travelled from Hamilton, Renfrew, West Park United, Kilmarnock and Glasgow City to take part. Gus MacLean, chair of Phoenix Girls FC, said: "This event wouldn't have been possible without the commitment of our partners, the Partick Thistle Charitable Trust, and the tireless work of coaches, parents, and volunteers. 'Together, we're making a real difference." Iain Stuart, Scottish Women's Premier League competitions officer, presented the medals on the day. Study reveals the dog breeds most prone to being OVERWEIGHT – so, is your pup on the list?
Roughly half of the dogs in the UK are estimated to be overweight or obese. But particular breeds are more likely to be porky pooches compared to others, according to a study. In what will come as no surprise to some owners, breeds such as Retrievers and Labradors are more motivated by food than other dogs, researchers found. And it's 'vital' that these owners understand how to help their dogs achieve a healthy weight, they said. The team, from Texas A&M University, analysed data on more than 13,000 dogs enrolled in the Dog Aging Project in the US. They looked at vet records and asked owners to complete questionnaires on their dogs' physical condition and their appetite. Analysis revealed popular sporting group breeds – including Retrievers, Spaniels and Setters – are about 10 per cent more likely to be motivated by food than other dogs. And, unsurprisingly, dogs with higher food motivation were more likely to be overweight. 'Our study confirmed that dogs in the sporting group — which in our study group were largely Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers — have a greater likelihood to have high food motivation', Dr. Kate Creevy said. 'Given that these are two of the most common breeds… it is vital that both veterinarians and dog owners understand the diet management strategies necessary for achieving a healthy weight.' The data showed that hounds were next most likely to be motivated by food, while dogs living in urban environments and those from multi–dog households are more likely to have higher food motivation. 'It's likely that these factors influence the amount of exercise that dogs get in addition to their access to food,' Dr Creevy said. 'Some dogs may seek food out of boredom, which may increase in environments where exercise and enrichment are less available. 'Additionally, owners with multiple dogs may choose certain feeding practices — including free feeding — out of convenience, which can lead to more food being available.' In contrast, nonsporting breeds such as the Bulldog, Dalmatian and Poodle were least likely to be food motivated, they found. The study, published in the American Journal of Veterinary Medicine, also found that owners are more likely to monitor their dog's diet closely if they were the ones that reported their dog was overweight, rather than if only the vet recognised the animal's overweight status. Even when owners are aware that their dogs are overweight – and are interested in helping their pet achieve a healthy weight – the process isn't always straightforward. 'Previous research has shown that weight loss interventions for dogs are not always successful, especially if they're not followed consistently,' Dr Creevy added. 'Sometimes there are issues in communication between the veterinarian and the owner, and given what we learned from this study, it's also possible that some breeds require even stricter feeding practices.' While they may look cute, overweight dogs are prone to numerous health problems including skin disease, diabetes and arthritis. Overweight people are more than twice as likely to have overweight dogs, a 2019 study found. The team of Danish study authors said this is at least partly because they are guilty of feeding their pets fattening treats. Writing in their study the authors claim this lends credence to the saying 'like owner, like dog'. 'The prevalence of heavy or obese dogs is more than twice as large among overweight or obese owners (35 per cent) than among owners who are slim or of a normal weight (14 per cent),' the researchers from the University of Copenhagen said. Of the 268 dogs studied, 20 per cent were found to be overweight. Average–weight owners tend to use treats for training purposes while overweight owners prefer to provide treats far more often.

She also credited 'consistency' for her slimmer frame and 'progressive overload' which is a training principle where you gradually increase the demands on your body during exercise to stimulate continued improvement in strength, muscle growth, and endurance. Less than a year since she started her health and fitness journey, Lucy has now reached her goal weight and claimed she doesn't want to lose any more.
