PM Anwar allocates RM1m to KLFA for football revival in Kuala Lumpur
Anwar said the government consistently encouraged the development of football, which he described as a people's sport that was widely loved and participated in. However, he stressed that emphasis should be placed on infrastructure as a fundamental aspect in advancing the sport.
'This is an opportunity for us to elevate the status of national football, but it has to start from the basics. That is why what was raised just now about collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Higher Education, or other training institutes is important.
'It's not just about funding, but adequate infrastructure is crucial — proper fields, training facilities, training academies — to ensure our children are trained well and in comfort,' he said in his speech at the KLFA's 50th Golden Jubilee celebration here today.
Also present were Communications Minister and KLFA patron Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and KLFA president Syed Yazid Syed Omar.
Meanwhile, Anwar also urged that sportsmanship be preserved, including proper conduct among supporters, who at times behaved beyond acceptable limits and tarnished the spirit of unity.
'There are groups of supporters that can sometimes get out of control... Losing does not mean the team should be ridiculed,' he said.
The Prime Minister also said he had instructed the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to monitor and control any incidents that could harm the image of national football, in line with the goal of sports as a medium of unity and healthy living.
He said associations such as KLFA were also responsible for ensuring that sportsmanship and unity continued to be upheld among supporters and players.
At the event, KLFA also announced several strategic collaborations, including with the Ministry of Education to strengthen football development at the school level and the Ministry of Youth and Sports in implementing coaching development programmes and initiatives involving youth. - Bernama

Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who was present at the meeting yesterday, said the decision would be reached following the Conference of Rulers' meeting tomorrow. "We have received the full picture from the Prime Minister. Loke: PM will announce appointment of CJ after consent from Malay Rulers
PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's has given the assurance that a decision on appointing a new Chief Judge of Malaya will be made soon. DAP secretary-general and Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said that Anwar would make an announcement following the consent of the Conference of Malay Rulers, scheduled to meet from July 15 to July 17. Loke conveyed this to the media after officiating the Malaysia Maritime Week 2025 at a hotel here on Tuesday (July 15). "I think we have caught the entire picture from the Prime Minister. He has mentioned and briefed the Cabinet from time to time. But yesterday (July 14), we were given an overall picture to our backbenchers so that they are also in the know of what was going on. "The Prime Minister made it very clear that a decision will be made soon. I think the biggest concern right now is that there are vacancies in the top tier of the judiciary, especially that of the Chief Judge," said Loke, adding that Anwar would announce the decision after receiving the consent of the Conference of Malay Rulers. There has been considerable discussion about the state of the judiciary following the lack of a judicial appointment after Chief Judge of Malaya Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat's mandatory retirement on July 2. On July 3, Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Hasnah Mohammed Hashim assumed the role of Chief Justice temporarily. In a statement, the Chief Registrar's Office stated that Justice Hasnah assumed the powers and duties of the Chief Justice in accordance with Article 131A of the Federal Constitution, as well as the provisions under Section 9(1)(b) and Section 9(3) of the Courts of Judicature Act. Article 131A of the Federal Constitution states that if the office of the Chief Justice is vacant, or if the Chief Justice is unable to perform the functions of the office, the next most senior Federal Court judge shall assume those responsibilities until a new appointment is made, or the Chief Justice resumes duty. Justice Hasnah was elevated to the Federal Court in December 2019. She was appointed as the 14th Chief Judge of Malaya on November 12 last year, making her the third woman to hold the position after Tan Sri Siti Norma Yaakob and Tan Sri Zaharah Ibrahim.
