Woman gives birth on moving bus in Maharashtra, newborn dies after couple throws him out of window

A 19-year-old woman gave birth to a baby while travelling on a bus in the Parbhani district of Maharashtra Tuesday morning. However, she and a 21-year-old man, claiming to be her husband, allegedly threw the baby boy out of the window, leading to the newborn's death. The incident happened on the Pathari-Selu road, and a group of people exercising near the spot found the baby's body. They reported the matter to the Pathari police at around 6.20 am. In their statement, they said they saw someone throw a bag from the bus, following which the bus halted nearly 100 metres from the spot. They rushed to the spot and found the newborn kid. By the time they figured out what happened, the bus had left. A police team also reached the spot and found the baby's body. The locals informed the police that they had noticed a white-coloured bus with 'Sant Prayag Travels' written on it. The police contacted the travel agency and found that the bus was coming from Pune to Parbhani. The police then went to the Parbhani office of the travel agency and found the bus driver. The driver told the police that he had seen a bag being hurled from the bus and hence stopped the bus for a few minutes. He said he had spoken to the couple who claimed that the woman had vomited as she was feeling unwell, following which he continued on the journey. The police then tracked the couple to Parbhani and questioned them. They claimed to be married but could not provide any proof of marriage, according to the police. They said they hailed from Parbhani and had been residing together in Pune for the last year. The police said the woman went into labour on the moving bus, and the couple confessed to throwing the baby out since they did not want to raise him. The police registered an FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 94 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of dead body) against the couple and issued them a notice. The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment.

SC sets 4-week deadline for SIT probing Ali Khan Mehmoodabad's Facebook posts on Op Sindoor, relaxes bail conditions

The Supreme Court has directed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating posts made by Ashoka University professor Ali Khan Mehmoodabad regarding Operation Sindoor to complete its inquiry within four weeks. The court has granted Ali Khan Mehmoodabad permission to publish online posts or articles, provided he refrains from commenting on matters currently sub judice in the case. Furthermore, the court ruled that it will not be compulsory for him to appear in person before the SIT. On May 21, the top court granted interim bail to the Ashoka University professor, who was arrested for his social media posts on Operation Sindoor, but refused to stay the investigation against him. The apex court had directed the setting up of a three-member SIT to look into the FIRs lodged against him. The Haryana Police arrested Ali Khan Mehmoodabad on May 18 after two FIRs were registered against him. His contentious social media posts on Operation Sindoor, it is alleged, endangered the sovereignty and integrity of the country. The two FIRs -- one based on a complaint by the chairperson of Haryana State Commission for Women, Renu Bhatia, and the other on a complaint by a village sarpanch -- were lodged by Rai police in Sonipat district. "On the Commission chairperson's complaint, the FIR has been lodged against Professor Ali of Ashoka University under BNS sections 152 (acts endangering sovereignty or unity and integrity of India), 353 (statements conducing to public mischief), 79 (deliberate actions aimed at insulting the modesty of a woman) and 196 (1) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion)," police said. Several political parties and academicians have condemned the arrest.

'Learnt About It From News': Canada-Based Man Held For Hit-And-Run Of Fauja Singh

The tragic incident occurred on Monday in Bias village in Punjab's Jalandhar district, where Fauja Singh was walking along the Jalandhar–Pathankot highway. A Canada-based man arrested for allegedly running over Fauja Singh, the world's oldest marathoner, has told the police he was unaware of the victim's identity until he saw the news, reported NDTV. The accused, Amritpal Singh Dhillon (26), claimed during interrogation that he learned the 114-year-old man he had fatally hit was a global sporting icon only after the incident was reported in the media. Dhillon was arrested on Tuesday night from his residence in Kartarpur, Punjab, after being tracked through CCTV footage and fragments of his Toyota Fortuner's headlight recovered from the accident site. The vehicle, which had reportedly changed hands multiple times, was also seized. The tragic incident occurred on Monday in Bias village in Punjab's Jalandhar district, where Fauja Singh was walking along the Jalandhar–Pathankot highway. According to eyewitnesses, Singh was flung five to seven feet in the air after being struck by the speeding SUV. He succumbed to his injuries later that evening. Speaking at a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harvinder Singh Virk said Dhillon was speeding at the time of the accident as he was 'in a hurry for some work." The accused also told police he had replaced one of the tyres of his SUV on the day of the incident. 'He got scared after hitting Fauja Singh and did not stop the car at the spot," Virk said, adding, 'It was his responsibility to stop and take the victim to a hospital." Police confirmed that Dhillon had returned to India from Canada on June 23. He had initially gone abroad on a tourist visa and later acquired a work permit valid until 2027. An FIR has been registered against him under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The death of Fauja Singh, affectionately known as the 'Turbaned Tornado," has triggered an outpouring of grief across the nation and the global Sikh community. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini all paid tribute to the legendary athlete, hailing his legacy and inspirational life. The Punjab Assembly also honoured Singh with a condolence motion on the final day of its special session. Born in 1911 in a farming family, Fauja Singh defied all odds to begin his marathon career at the age of 89. He later became the first centenarian to complete a full marathon, earning multiple age-group world records. His accomplishments in cities like London, New York, Toronto, and Hong Kong turned him into a symbol of resilience, health, and inspiration for generations. In 2011, an invitational marathon in Toronto was named in his honour, where he set several records at the age of 100. After spending most of his later years in the UK, Singh returned to India about three years ago. Just last year, he joined Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria in a symbolic walkathon to raise awareness about drug abuse. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
