
232 new houses inaugurated at Sri Lankan Tamils Rehabilitation Camp near Vembakottai
Virudhunagar Collector N.O. Sukhaputra handed over the keys in the presence of Sattur MLA A.R.R. Raghuraman after Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, inaugurated the new houses through videoconferencing from Chennai.
A total of 232 new houses have been constructed at a cost of ₹12.30 crore by the Department of Rehabilitation with an objective to provide housing facilities with basic amenities to ensure protected and dignified life for the Sri Lankan Tamils.
The Collector inspected the houses and the facilities provided there.
Each house has ben constructed with a plinth area of 300 square feet. The houses have a bedroom, kitchen, hall and bathroom and toilet facility.
An overhead tank has been constructed to provide piped drinking water to the houses.
Besides, roads have been laid and streetlights provided for the houses.
Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, Dhandapani, Sattur Revenue Divisional Officer, S.K. Kanagaraj, Vembakottai Tahisldar, Kalaivani, Special Tahsildar (Non-Resident Tamils), Karthikeyeni, were present.

VIT Chancellor Viswanathan honoured by Tamil Sangam federation in U.S.
The founder and chancellor of Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), G. Guest workers' children being given Tamil language training in Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: Guest workers' children in Karamadai block in Coimbatore district are being given Tamil language training to help them adapt to regular classroom learning in govt and aided schools. According to a school education department official, a door-to-door survey is being conducted with the help of school management committees (SMCs) in habitations to identify school going age children. So far, they have identified 43 children, aged between 7 and 14 years, whose family migrated from states like Bihar, Assam , Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal for work. "These children are being admitted to nearby govt and aided primary and middle schools through spot admissions. To support the integration of non-Tamil speaking children into the classroom, schools are providing special workbooks with basic Tamil letters, activity-based learning and commonly used words in English. Teachers use tools like Google Translate to help bridge the language gap," he said. Rs 10L insurance handed over to deceased NRT's family
Tadepalli: The Andhra Pradesh government is steadfast in its commitment to support Non-Resident Telugus (NRTs) wherever they may be in the world, stated Minister for MSME, SERP, NRI Empowerment and Relations, Kondapalli Srinivas. Speaking at a programme held at APNRTS office here on Tuesday, he affirmed that the Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) is dedicated to the welfare, safety, and development of NRIs. In a significant gesture, Minister Srinivas personally handed over Rs 10 lakh in insurance compensation under the 'Pravasandhra Bharosa Insurance Scheme' to the family of Bhavanasi Satyababu. A native of Narravada village in Duttaluru mandal, Sri Potti Sri Ramulu Nellore district, Satyababu tragically died in a road accident in Saudi Arabia. He urged all Telugus living abroad to register under the Pravasandhra Bharosa Scheme, emphasising that it provides crucial assurance to their families in unforeseen circumstances. Bhavanasi Satyababu migrated to Saudi Arabia for employment in 2014, working as a Construction Manager for KEC International Limited. With the assistance of APNRTS coordinators in Saudi Arabia, he had registered for the Pravasandhra Bharosa Insurance Scheme. Tragically, on April 5, 2024, he sustained fatal injuries in a road accident. He is survived by wife and a two-year-old son. APNRTS officials gathered the necessary documents and information and submitted them to New India Assurance Company which approved the Rs 10 lakh claim on Tuesday and the amount was handed over to the policyholder's wife through APNRTS. APNRTS CEO and Director Kanuri Seshubabu, NRI TDP Gulf Division President Ravi Radhakrishna, NRI TDP Kuwait Division President Nagendra Babu Akkili, NRI TDP Media Coordinator Sagar Doddapaneni, former APNRTS Director Rajasekhar Chappidi, and New India Assurance Company Vijayawada Divisional Manager K Joseph were present.
