Turkish national still missing off Pulau Yu, may have gone down with yacht, says maritime chief
According to Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director-general Admiral Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah, initial investigations suggest Eser Demirkol, 52, was asleep during the incident and was unable to escape in time.
'Two of the victims managed to jump into the sea, but the missing individual is believed to have still been inside the yacht when it sank,' he was quoted as saying at a press conference after the Malaysian Maritime 2025 Media Day programme at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Maritime Academy (AMSAS) in Kuantan today.
The two individuals who jumped into the sea — yacht captain Ahmet Volkan Ata, 52, and Ates Demiroren, 42 — were later rescued.
Utusan Malaysia also reported that no new leads have emerged so far regarding the missing person or the yacht, but search and rescue (SAR) operations are ongoing.
The current search area spans 7.89 square nautical miles, and efforts are expected to continue over the next few days depending on weather and sea conditions.
The incident, which took place about 30 nautical miles off Pulau Yu, on July 29 involved three Turkish nationals who were sailing from Pulau Tioman to Pattani, Thailand, when their yacht sank due to rough weather.

PKR leader's claims linked to internal auditing, police probe finds

Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said it was also related to issues with the administration of the party. He said this in a written parliamentary reply to Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas), who wanted an update on an investigation into a viral video clip featuring a man believed to be the Wangsa Maju PKR division chief. In May, a video, which surfaced on several social media platforms, appears to show Wangsa Maju division chief Lai Chen Heng commenting on financial contributions to the division from a prominent businessman. He allegedly referred to them as 'unaudited funds' associated with a senior political leader. But Lai maintained that the clip had been selectively edited and circulated to smear his image. In April, he had denied claims that the division's 2024 financial statements had been manipulated. He said such claims were baseless and politically motivated, adding that the financial report presented during the division's annual general meeting on March 1 did not receive any objections.

Govt moots purchase of 16 new buses for FRU after fatal crash

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The home ministry has proposed the procurement of 16 new buses with a capacity of 44 passengers each for the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) following the crash in May that claimed the lives of nine FRU personnel. Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the buses would be used by the FRU for general use and long-distance travel. In a written parliamentary reply, Saifuddin said the ministry proposed that funds be allocated to procure the buses under the 13th Malaysia Plan. He also said the ministry has proposed customising existing FRU vehicles to ensure they fit the set safety specifications, as well as the installation of additional safety components like dash cameras. 'The police are holding discussions with various stakeholders concerning improvements to SOPs (involving the transportation of FRU personnel). 'The date of implementation of the new SOPs will be set once the procedures are finalised and approved by the police force's leadership,' he said. Those who died were S Perumal, 44, Roslan Abd Rahim, 46, Pozli Jaudin, 41, Nurit Pandak, 34, Amiruddin Zabri, 38, Hilmi Azlan, 38, Akmal Muhamad, 35, Damarrulan Abdul Latif, 33, and Akmal Wafi Annuar, 28. The 45-year-old lorry driver, Rudi Zulkarnain Mat Radi, was charged on May 16 with nine counts of causing death by reckless driving. He claimed trial to all the charges. A preliminary report by the task force investigating the crash also found that the tipper lorry was carrying 40,960kg of gravel, exceeding the permitted limit of 24,000kg by 70.67%.
