Forest Lake: MnDOT to host public meeting on $17M construction project
The $17 million project will include resurfacing the road, constructing a single-lane roundabout at Fenway Avenue, and adding turn lanes in specific locations.
A new multi-use trail will be constructed along the south side of 97 to provide a safer space for pedestrians and bicyclists, as well as a connection to the Hardwood Creek Regional Trail.
In addition, a raised median will be added to divide eastbound and westbound traffic on the two-lane roadway; the median also will serve as an accessible pedestrian crossing.
Construction will be done in two stages over a two-year period, with one half of the road under construction each year. Construction is scheduled to be done in the fall of 2026.
A public meeting for residents to learn more about the project will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday in the Forest Lake City Center's second-floor community room.
Project staff from the Minnesota Department of Transportation will be available to provide information about the project and answer questions. There will be no formal presentation, and attendees are welcome to arrive anytime during the meeting.

St. Joseph detour, roundabout construction begins July 8
A new roundabout is coming to St. Joseph, and construction starts July 8. Stearns County released a statement informing the public the project is sparking traffic detours. The new roundabout will be at the intersection of County Road 2 and Minnesota Street in St. Joseph, which will be closed during construction. MnDOT will close I-94 in both directions over the weekend originally appeared on Bring Me The News. A major road closure is coming to the Twin Cities this weekend. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will close I-94 in both directions between I-35W and Huron Boulevard from 10 p.m. on Friday, June 13, through 5 a.m. on Monday, June 16. The closure is part of ongoing work on five bridges that has reduced the interstate to two lanes in both directions over recent weeks. After this weekend's closure, I-94 will again be reduced to two lanes from 11th Avenue South to Franklin Avenue Southeast, the MnDOT says. Additionally, five ramps along I-94 will close at 9 p.m. on Friday, June 13, and will remain closed through late August. Per the MnDOT, those ramps include: Northbound I-35W to eastbound I-94 South 6th St. to eastbound I-94 Huron Blvd. to and from eastbound I-94 Riverside Ave. to eastbound I-94 Cedar Ave. to eastbound I-94 All lanes along I-94 will reopen for the Minnesota State Fair from mid-August through Labor Day to accommodate the traffic that accompanies the Great Minnesota Get-Together. After the fair concludes, work will resume "to complete the removal of crossovers and other items such as signage and lighting," per the MnDOT. Snelling and St. Clair intersection fully reopens after construction
A year-long construction project on Snelling and St. Clair avenues wrapped up this week and the intersection now hosts two-lane traffic again, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The project, which began in May 2024, included resurfacing a half-mile of Snelling Avenue between St. Clair and Grand avenues and replacing the signal system. MnDOT also installed pedestrian bump-outs and ADA-compliant crossings at each intersection from St. Clair to Grand Avenue. After intermittent closures last week, the intersection opened and the new signal system turned on Thursday. Minor construction activities, such as replacing the boulevard's trees and sod, will continue throughout the summer.
