Who is 'thief of Doha', the original owner of $400M jet to be gifted to Donald Trump?
Amid a major row over President Donald Trump possibly getting a $400 million Boeing Jet from Qatar as a gift, it has now been revealed that the
Qatari jet
has been sitting unsold for years since 2020 and Qatar now wants to dump it.
The aircraft originally belonged to former prime minister
Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani
, also known as
HBJ
. These initials are still there in the jet's tail number. The sheikh has been embroiled in a $20 million legal dispute over a string of luxury hotels, the New York Post reported.
The former PM has been branded as the 'thief of Doha' by a Washington think tank after the DOJ accused him of presiding over bribery and corruption when he brought 2022 World Cup to Qatar.
HBJ has a lot of controversies and lawsuits apart from the corruption allegations. He made an antisemitic tirade in an interview last year as he said, "Imagine oil was sold by some Jews … what would be the price of a barrel oil? It would be the most expensive thing in the world,'
HBJ served as Prime Minister from April 3, 2007, to June 26, 2013, during the reign of Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. He stepped down as Prime Minister on June 26, 2013, one day after Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani abdicated in favor of his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Before that, HBJ was Qatar's Foreign Minister for over two decades, from 1992 to 2013
Trump's Qatar visit is the second destination of his Gulf tour, after a first stop in Riyadh, where he made a surprise announcement lifting sanctions on Syria and met the country's president. Qatar Airways had placed a "record" order for 160 planes from Boeing, its largest ever order for its wide-body jets.

Should we allow bogus votes, CEC Gyanesh Kumar asks opposition
NEW DELHI: Responding to opposition parties' constant criticism of the ongoing SIR of Bihar's electoral rolls, chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Thursday asked if EC should, swayed by such attacks, allow bogus votes to be cast in the name of electors who are deceased, permanently shifted, enrolled at two or more places or "illegal foreign immigrants", first in the state and then across country. The query came on a day EC put the total number of electors in Bihar "not found at their addresses so far" at 61.1 lakh. This is inclusive of 21.6 lakh voters reported by booth level officers (BLOs) and political parties' booth level agents (BLAs) as deceased, 31.5 lakh as premanently migrated, seven lakh as registered at more than one place, and 1 lakh as "untraceable". "Should such bogus votes be allowed in violation of the Constitution," the CEC asked while describing SIR as "a transparent exercise to make the electoral roll error-free, as the foundation stone of a robust democracy". "Time has come for all to introspect on these important questions," he told TOI. With just one day to go before the deadline for submission of filled and signed enumeration forms in Bihar, EC said 99% of the state's 7.9 crore are now covered under SIR, and over 91.3 forms received and digitised. "Names of all these electors will be included in the draft electoral roll," EC said and added that the remaining forms are being digitised along with BLO/BLA reports to facilitate verification during the claims and objections period. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Access all TV channels anywhere, anytime Techno Mag Learn More Undo With just six to seven lakh electors remaining to turn in their forms, "BLOs and BLAs will reach out to each of them in the hours leading up to the deadline, and help them to do the needful", said an election commission official. As per the SIR order, the draft electoral roll will be published on Aug 1, and its printed and digital copies provided to all recognised political parties, in addition to its being uploaded on the EC website. The electors and parties will have a month's time from Aug 1 to file a claim in case of missing names or raise an objection in case of a wrong inclusion.

Revanth vows dharna at Jantar Mantar over 42% BC quota
1 2 3 Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday said he, along with ministers and party MPs, is ready to stage a dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to press the Centre for approving 42% reservations for BCs in Telangana across panchayat raj local bodies, govt jobs, and educational institutions. He urged Rahul Gandhi and various parties' MPs to raise the issue in Parliament, asserting that the Telangana govt had submitted the proposal for enhanced BC quotas to the Centre and the President of India four months ago. Revanth also hinted at further enhancing reservation for SCs and STs based on the findings of the state's socio-economic caste census. The proposal includes raising SC quota from 15% to 17.5% and ST quota from 10% to 10.8% (11%). He said the upcoming national caste census would also bring clarity on the actual population share of these communities. It is a socio-economic, educational, and political survey. We collected 88 crore pages of self-declared data. It's 100% foolproof." Revanth said the letter of appreciation from Sonia Gandhi felt like a 'Nobel or Oscar award,' calling it the highest honour of his political career. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is this legal? Techno Mag Learn More Undo Revanth took sharp aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming "Modi is a legally converted OBC, as his caste was included in the category only after he became Gujarat CM." He alleged that if Modi continues to stall the BC reservation bill, people will remove him from power and ensure the bill's passage. "During our previous dharna at Jantar Mantar, I told Modi — either pass it now or the people will pass it after removing you from power. That message must now be sent again through Parliament," he told party leaders. The CM slammed both the BJP and RSS for opposing caste census initiatives. He recalled that in 2020, the BJP-led central govt had told the Supreme Court it had no intention of conducting such a census, and Union minister Rajnath Singh had echoed the same position in Parliament. Revanth said the BJP only agreed to include caste census in the national census earlier this year due to pressure from Congress, particularly Rahul Gandhi, who made it a core demand during his Bharat Jodo Yatra. He accused BRS leaders KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao of attempting to discredit the survey's data, but said he had challenged them on the floor of the assembly to prove it wrong. Calling the survey a 'rare model,' Revanth said it would serve as a roadmap for the nation. "If anyone has a problem calling it the Telangana model, let's call it the rare model — and I'll explain why," he said. Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka gave a presentation on the survey's methodology, while irrigation minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and TPCC chief B Mahesh Kumar Goud spoke on its political significance.
