US Open announces stellar cast for mixed doubles
Organisers were heavily criticised in February after announcing that the mixed doubles competition would be a standalone event on August 19-20 - before the hard court Grand Slam begins on August 24.
British number one Emma Raducanu and five-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz are one of six wildcard pairings, with eight teams gaining direct entry.
The US Open said a further two wildcard entries will be announced at a later date.
Of the 14 teams named so far, there are eight men and six women ranked in the top 10 in singles, and nine Grand Slam singles champions.
Venus Williams takes up one of the wildcard places alongside fellow American Reilly Opelka.
Wimbledon singles champions Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner have direct entry with their respective partners Casper Ruud and Emma Navarro, according to a BBC news.
British number one Jack Draper also goes into the draw via that route, partnering Spain's Paula Badosa.
Last year's mixed doubles winners Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori - who described the scheduling change as a "profound injustice" in a joint statement in February, and dubbed the new format "a pseudo-exhibition focused only on entertainment and show" - have received a wildcard entry.

F1: McLaren boss Zak Brown says Formula 1 is healthier without Horner
Formula One is a healthier place after the firing of Christian Horner as Red Bull team boss, McLaren chief executive Zak Brown said on Sunday. Speaking to reporters after talks with Horner's successor Laurent Mekies at the Hungarian Grand Prix, the American welcomed the Frenchman's appointment and said his predecessor had crossed a line. 'I just left having a chat with Laurent, I'm happy he's in the role he's in,' he said. 'I like Laurent, and I think that'll be healthy, and maybe we can get back to focusing on competition on the track. 'There's always going to be some political aspects to the sport, I think it's going to be healthier with Laurent,' he added. 'I'm a fan of Laurent, I've known him for a long time, and I think it'll be good to go racing against Laurent.'
