Child got stuck on a cliff 25m above popular Welsh beach
Emergency crews were called after a child became stranded in a perilous position on the cliff face above the beach

A child had to be rescued after he became stranded in a perilous position halfway up a cliff face at a Welsh beach, some 25 metres above the rocks below.
RNLI volunteers dashed to Marloes Sands in Pembrokeshire on Tuesday, June 24, after reports that the child was sat on the cliff side and unable to come down safely. Members of the public were trying to reach the child, but the steepness of the cliff and lack of safe access to their position made this impossible.
An image captured at the scene demonstrates how dangerous a position the child was in, with a huge drop to the rocky terrain on the beach below.

A spokesman for Angle Lifeboat RNLI said: "Angle RNLI diverted to two separate incidents whilst afloat on a refuelling exercise. Shortly after launching on exercise this afternoon to refuel at Neyland Marina, Angle Lifeboat was tasked at 1.19pm to the report of a child stuck on the cliff at Marloes Sands.

"Information was scant, but the coastguard had received a dropped 999 calling stating that a child was stuck. The lifeboat immediately diverted and began making best speed to Marloes, and the crew arrived on scene and commenced a search 25 minutes later.
"Soon after, the crew located the casualty sat precariously on the cliff side around 25 metres up from the base. There were also members of the public attempting to reach the child.
"Dale and St David's Coastguard Teams were arriving on scene and were conned on to the casualty's position. Whilst the teams set up for a technical rescue, the lifeboat stood by."

A rare new statue of a black woman who has been 'hidden in history' has been unveiled for Londoners to make wishes at. The statue of Mary Woolaston has been erected after it was found there were only three permanent statues of black women in London. She was said to be a 17th century woman in King's Cross, who kept a well with the ability to people's eyes. Now, made from St Bees sandstone and carved by Marcia Bennett-Male, the only black female stone carver in the UK, Mary has been brought back to he heart of London in Cowthorpe Community Gardens. Lead artist Gaylene Gould told Metro: 'There are glimpses of Mary in the history books, but some people still deny she exists. 'There is one argument suggesting she was actually a black cow, or a nun just wearing a habit, but we want to breathe life into her. 'But she now stands to represent working class women, particuarly those of colour, who have never had history written properly about her.' The statue has been placed in Cowthorpe, next to a stream which runs through a small community garden in the middle of high rises. Around her, the previously disused area has been transformed into a pleasure garden to try and create a space which Mary would have thrived in. 'As I was walking through the area, I just immediately knew, 'this is Mary's well',' Gaylene said. 'We want Londoners to be able to pause just for a moment, offer wishes, prayers.' The idea to create a statue of Mary has been in the back of Gaylene's mind for years. But after the Covid pandemic erupted and people were ordered to keep to a more solitary existence, plans were put into action. She said: 'All of a sudden there was a big threat to our survival, and people were without a community. 'But there were people who were voluntarily still trying to keep their areas alive and connected, such as gardeners and keepers. We want to honour them.' Funding to create the statue was granted by the Mayor of London's office who started a project to increase diversity in the public realm. It was commissioned in 2020 to highlight previously untold stories for London's diverse histories. Fire breaks out on yacht carrying eight people off Shoreham coast
A fire broke out on a yacht carrying eight people three miles off the West Sussex coast earlier.A Coastguard rescue team and the RNLI were sent to assist after the vessel's engine caught fire at about 10:30 BST on Saturday, Shoreham Coastguard personnel aboard were helped onto an RNLI lifeboat, while the vessel was escorted into Shoreham Harbour to meet the fire and fire crews were also called as a precaution, but no injuries have been reported.

Councillor Andrew Morgan was responding to a question from Brynna and Llanharan councillor Janine Turner at Rhondda Cynon Taf full council on Wednesday, June 25 who said that the statement earlier this year that the Llanharan Sustainable Transport Corridor had been given the go-ahead following a redesign was very welcome news. She asked the leader for update on the progress made since then and to outline some of the key steps for the scheme to be delivered. Cllr Morgan said the scheme was a priority for the council and that there had been a lot of work going on in the background to take it forward. The council has allocated £5.05m in the capital programme towards the project. He said the scheme had been 'redefined' in terms of embedding sustainable transport policies while still seeking to take the bulk of the traffic out of Llanharan. Article continues below The scheme was delayed because of the roads review by Welsh Government but the council has now had the green light to take it forward. The council is working on a funding package but the next key stage is that the pre-planning application consultation is expected to start during September and October. All the consultation documents will be made available online and in person at Llantrisant Leisure Centre from September 19 to October 17 with consultation days to be organised in Llanharan itself in October. Cllr Morgan said the road scheme is very much in line with what they previously looked at in terms of the corridor and it doesn't deviate much from that but has just been redesigned in terms of things like landscaping and drainage. He said 'what that does mean is that we substantially reduce in-built carbon' which will be close to 20,000 tonnes and the ancient woodland has been protected. They've also looked at junctions and making sure there's a good flow of buses and that they don't get caught up in traffic. 'There's an awful lot of small changes but the primary thing is the scheme is going ahead as far as we're concerned. We will need to get planning permission. 'We are in conversation with Welsh Government. We are committed to this in terms of using some CIL (community infrastructure levy) funding from the housing development down there and committing our own funds.' He also said they'd secured some further money around the active travel element.
