'I want to be a future leader of this club' - Abbott on Forest contract

Zack Abbott speaking to BBC Nottingham's David Jackson on the Shut Up And Show More Football podcast about his four-year contract with Nottingham Forest: "This is a reward for a lot of hard work. I am really excited to push on and go for more. These deals are about securing a long-term future at the club and it's great that Forest have put that trust in me. I will repay that by working even harder now."I have had some great experiences the past year and they have just made me hungry for 19-year-old came through Forest's academy having joined at the age of 11 and has agreed a contract until the summer of 2029."Forest is all I have ever known. I feel really integrated and you feel the trust of the club behind you, which is really nice. I want to be a future leader of this club. The amount of years here already helps me to do what his future looks like at the club: "There are no guarantees ever in football. I believe that it is all down to you and how hard you work. As long as I am doing my stuff on the training pitch, then I'm happy and the rest takes care of European football: "It would be amazing to get minutes in Europe but as long as I'm improving and can look back next season and see progress, that's the most important thing."BBC Nottingham's Colin Fray added: "You can see the makings of a potential leader in Abbott. The way he talks at such a young age and his ambition. He has a mixture of humility and ambition, plus lots of talent."This is about building on an unbelievable year for him, especially at Wembley. Let's hope he can keep developing over the next few years."Nuno obviously trusts him, he has shown that. Being a homegrown player, he is invaluable for a European squad and he may well get matches in European competitions."Listen to the whole interview on BBC Sounds

Jordan Smith takes positives from Hibernian's draw at Midtjylland

Hibernian goalkeeper Jordan Smith felt he and his team-mates had passed a tough test of their mentality after emerging from Denmark with a 1-1 draw. Hibs have set up an exciting second leg in the Europa League second qualifying round at Easter Road next Thursday after holding Midtjylland. It could have been an even better night for Hibs but Martin Boyle was denied a second goal by a marginal offside decision following Jamie McGrath's opener. Smith dealt well with almost everything the Danish side threw at Hibs, including a series of set-pieces, but was beaten by a moment of class in the 72nd minute when Aral Simsir curled a free-kick into the top corner. The former Nottingham Forest player told Hibs TV: 'It was a tough tie, they asked a lot of questions of us, and ultimately we were probably a bit disappointed that we didn't win the game having been in that winning position. 'However, there are certainly more positives to take out of the game than negatives – we're fairly happy going back to Easter Road with it all to play for. 'It was a very mentally testing game for me, but defensively we've got a really good understanding of each other at the back. They are a quality side, with quality players – so we knew they were going to ask us questions, but I think we stood up to that task. 'It was nice to make my European debut at the age of 30 as well. 'I'm really proud of the boys. We didn't let the occasion get to us, we showed the opposition respect without showing them too much respect, and we took the game to them. We showed moments of our own quality and we did the other side of the game really well. 'If you had asked us before the game, we probably would've taken that result. It is all to play for next week.'
