Infoline Tec Group Berhad's (KLSE:INFOTEC) Conservative Accounting Might Explain Soft Earnings

The market for Infoline Tec Group Berhad's (KLSE:INFOTEC) shares didn't move much after it posted weak earnings recently. We did some digging, and we believe the earnings are stronger than they seem. We've found 21 US stocks that are forecast to pay a dividend yield of over 6% next year. See the full list for free. A Closer Look At Infoline Tec Group Berhad's Earnings In high finance, the key ratio used to measure how well a company converts reported profits into free cash flow (FCF) is the accrual ratio (from cashflow). The accrual ratio subtracts the FCF from the profit for a given period, and divides the result by the average operating assets of the company over that time. You could think of the accrual ratio from cashflow as the 'non-FCF profit ratio'. That means a negative accrual ratio is a good thing, because it shows that the company is bringing in more free cash flow than its profit would suggest. While it's not a problem to have a positive accrual ratio, indicating a certain level of non-cash profits, a high accrual ratio is arguably a bad thing, because it indicates paper profits are not matched by cash flow. Notably, there is some academic evidence that suggests that a high accrual ratio is a bad sign for near-term profits, generally speaking. Infoline Tec Group Berhad has an accrual ratio of -0.25 for the year to March 2025. Therefore, its statutory earnings were very significantly less than its free cashflow. In fact, it had free cash flow of RM23m in the last year, which was a lot more than its statutory profit of RM14.3m. Notably, Infoline Tec Group Berhad had negative free cash flow last year, so the RM23m it produced this year was a welcome improvement. Our Take On Infoline Tec Group Berhad's Profit Performance Happily for shareholders, Infoline Tec Group Berhad produced plenty of free cash flow to back up its statutory profit numbers. And on top of that, its earnings per share have grown at an extremely impressive rate over the last three years.
