350 Israeli authors call for end to Gaza war
The signatories include well-known writers such as David Grossman, Joshua Sobol and Zeruya Shalev.
"This war endangers the lives of IDF soldiers, of the hostages, and causes horrific suffering for helpless civilians in Gaza," the letter says.
"The acts being committed in Gaza and the occupied territories are not done in our name, but they will be on our account."
The signatories call for an immediate end to the military operation against the Palestinian Islamist Hamas movement, the return of the hostages abducted to the Gaza Strip and an international agreement on the future of the Gaza Strip.
The authors accuse Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of continuing the war for personal reasons.
There have been several similar calls from within the ranks of the military demanding an end to the war and an agreement with Hamas on the release of the hostages.
The Gaza war was triggered by the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel led by Hamas and other extremist groups, in which around 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 Israelis were taken hostage and held in the Gaza Strip.
Since then, according to the health authority in the Gaza Strip, around 51,000 people have been killed, a large proportion of them women and minors. The information, which does not distinguish between combatants and civilians, cannot be independently verified. Israel has spoken of around 20,000 terrorists killed.

Israeli tanks roll into Gazan city of Deir al-Balah for first time since war began
Israeli tanks on Monday rolled into a part of central Gaza that has not previously seen ground operations in the 21-month war, according to Israeli media, aid agencies and witnesses. It is expanding its activities in this area, operating in areas where it has not operated before.' Israeli media has reported that the IDF has been reluctant in the past to carry out ground operations in Deir al-Balah for fear of further endangering surviving hostages, who may be held there. The Hostages Families Forum said Monday that it was alarmed by reports the assault had begun and demanded the government explain why 'the offensive in the Deir al-Balah area does not put the hostages at serious risk.' AOC's Bronx HQ vandalized with red paint after Israel vote: ‘F-CK AOC!'
Progressive New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Bronx headquarters was vandalized by anti-Israeli activists after she voted against cutting US funding for Israel. UK, France and 23 other countries say the war in Gaza ‘must end now'
LONDON (AP) — Twenty-five countries including Britain, France and a host of European nations issued a joint statement on Monday saying the war in Gaza 'must end now' and Israel must comply with international law. The foreign ministers of countries including Australia, Canada and Japan said 'the suffering of civilians in Gaza has reached new depths' and condemned 'the drip feeding of aid and the inhumane killing of civilians, including children, seeking to meet their most basic needs of water and food." 'The Israeli government's aid delivery model is dangerous, fuels instability and deprives Gazans of human dignity,' the statement said. 'The Israeli government's denial of essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable. Israel must comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law," it added. The signatories included the foreign ministers of about 20 European countries as well as Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and the EU commissioner for equality, preparedness and crisis management. The U.S. and Germany did not sign the statement. The signatories called for an immediate ceasefire, adding they are prepared to take action to support a political pathway to peace in the region. Gaza's population of more than 2 million Palestinians is in a catastrophic humanitarian crisis, now relying largely on the limited aid allowed into the territory. Many people have been displaced multiple times. Hamas triggered the war when militants stormed into southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 people and taking 251 others hostage. Fifty remain in Gaza, but fewer than half are thought to be alive. Israel's military offensive has killed more than 59,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. Its count doesn't distinguish between militants and civilians but the ministry says more than half of the dead are women and children. The ministry is part of the Hamas government, but the U.N. and other international organizations see it as the most reliable source of data on casualties.
