De Minaur saves three match points to lift Washington Open title

Jul 26, 2025; Washington, D.C., USA; Alex de Minaur (AUS) reaches for a backhand against Corentin Moutet (FRA)(not pictured) in a men's singles semi-final on day six of the Mubadala Citi DC Open at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center. Mandatory Credit: Geoff Burke-Imagn Images Alex De Minaur rallied from a set down and saved three match points to claim the Washington Open title with a 5-7 6-1 7-6(3) win over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the final of the ATP 500 event on Sunday. The pair exchanged breaks early in the opening set before Spain's Davidovich Fokina seized control by breaking again and closed out the set with the help of some crisp forehand winners. Australian De Minaur responded emphatically in the second set, converting two of four break-point opportunities while holding serve throughout, wrapping up the set in just over 30 minutes with an ace to level the contest. Davidovich Fokina looked in control of the decider when he broke to grab the lead but failed to serve out the match at 5-3, sending a forehand long to hand the break back to seventh seed De Minaur. Davidovich Fokina's frustration mounted as the 12th seed squandered three match points on De Minaur's serve, and the Australian then capitalised on a series of unforced errors in the tiebreak to edge the contest and lift his 10th career title. Lacklustre Boca Juniors suffer first Clausura defeat at Huracan

Find out what's new on ST website and app. BUENOS AIRES - Boca Juniors extended their winless streak in the Argentine Clausura tournament as they fell 1-0 away to Huracan on Sunday, courtesy of a second-half goal from Matko Miljevic. Boca failed to recover from their disappointing Copa Argentina Round of 32 exit earlier this week and now sit 13th in Group B of the Clausura, having managed just two draws before the loss to Huracan. Miguel Angel Russo's team once again produced a lacklustre performance, with goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin emerging as their standout player after making a series of crucial saves to keep his side in contention. Yet the Argentine keeper was finally beaten in the 65th minute when Miljevic fired a superb strike into the top corner to hand the Apertura runners-up Huracan their first win in the tournament. Porsche takes Formula E team and manufacturer titles

Find out what's new on ST website and app. Porsche won the team and manufacturer titles as the all-electric Formula E championship wrapped up its season in London on Sunday. Nissan's Oliver Rowland had already won the drivers' crown with two races to spare. The Briton retired from Sunday's race after a crash. New Zealand's Nick Cassidy won both races at the ExCel centre on Saturday and Sunday as he said farewell to Jaguar with second place overall in the championship. Sunday's victory was a fifth in six races for Jaguar. Cassidy beat Mahindra's Nyck de Vries by 13.5 seconds with Sebastien Buemi third for Envision after Jaguar's Mitch Evans finished second on the road but was then handed a five second penalty and dropped to fifth. The race was the last for Jaguar team principal James Barclay, who is moving to head McLaren's world endurance hypercar team, and also for the McLaren Formula E team. REUTERS
