Ex-Bengaluru top cop slams 'goonda' film fans for misogynistic troll attacks on Ramya
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the ex-top cop described some fan associations as 'lumpen' and 'goonda' elements and called for strict police action.
'Some film hero fans associations are nothing but lumpen, goonda elements who are unemployed. I feel sorry for these young boys used as trolls by so-called heroes who portray a thin line between villain and hero,' he wrote.

He further added that these trolls are 'basically cowards who use filthy language more against women on social media under the garb of anonymity.'
The former officer praised Ramya for initiating legal action, saying, 'It's good that @divyaspandana has set the law into motion.' He expressed hope that Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh would use technology and fearless authority to identify 'at least 30 to 40 goons who have used abusive, misogynistic language.'
'It will send a strong message. This is not Freedom of Speech,' he said, urging Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara not to turn a blind eye to the 'brazen abuse of a woman on social media.'
'The whip has to be cracked,' he concluded.

The comments follow a wave of online abuse against Ramya after she spoke out on the Renukaswamy murder case, in which Kannada actor Darshan is a prime accused. Ramya had earlier stated that Renukaswamy 'will get justice' and announced her decision to take legal action against those sending her obscene and threatening messages online.
On Monday, Ramya filed an official complaint with the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner, stating she was subjected to threats and vulgar abuse on social media by fans of Darshan. The complaint includes screenshots of the offensive messages and urges police to initiate stringent legal proceedings.
'This is not just about me. I was told I should have been murdered. I received rape threats, vulgar and deeply disturbing messages. That's when I realised someone had to act,' Ramya told reporters after submitting the complaint.
'It shows just how degraded parts of our society have become,' she added.
The incident has sparked widespread public debate on fan culture, misogyny, and online abuse, prompting calls for stronger digital accountability and swift law enforcement action.

Passenger's big headload fell on others, led to stampede in Delhi: Vaishnaw
A BIG headload being carried by a passenger fell on others, causing the stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station on February 15 in which 18 people were killed, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Rajya Sabha Friday, citing a probe report. He said that a high-level inquiry committee constituted to examine the circumstances leading to the stampede has submitted its report. 'As per the findings of the report, an unfortunate incident on 15.02.25 happened on Foot Over Bridge (FOB)-3 stairs connecting Platform 14/15 at New Delhi Railway Station. On the day of the incident, sufficient crowd management protocols were in place to handle the overall volume of passengers at the station. There was a gradual increase of passenger density on the FOB after 20.15 hrs,' said Vaishnaw in a written reply to questions asked by Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman. Passengers were trying to board Prayagraj-bound trains for the Mahakumbh when the incident occurred. Sharing the findings of the probe report, Vaishnaw said, 'Many of the passengers were carrying big headloads affecting smooth movement on the FOB. There was a big headload falling from one of the passengers and the pressure was passed on to the stairs of PF 14/15 stairs resulting in the tripping of passengers on the stairs. This led to an incident at 20.48 hrs on FOB-3, which was limited to the stairs of FOB. Consequently, passengers fell on each other. In the incident, 18 people lost their lives and 15 others were injured.' In March this year, the Railway Minister had told the Lok Sabha that on the day of the stampede the total ticket sold was 49,000 – 13,000 more than the daily average tickets sold over the previous six months. Of the 18 people who died in the stampede, 11 were women and four children. Eyewitnesses had alleged that the stampede took place because of 'lack of crowd management' at a time when a large number of people were trying to board the Prayagraj-bound trains. Following the incident, five senior officers, including the Divisional Railway Manager of Delhi, were transferred. In his written reply on Friday, Vaishnaw said that several measures have been taken after the incident to handle heavy rush at the stations. A total of 73 stations have been identified where permanent holding areas will be created. Pilot projects have started at New Delhi, Anand Vihar, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Ghaziabad stations. 'Two new designs of 12 metre wide (40 feet) and 6 metre wide (20 feet) standard FOB have been developed. These wide FOBs with ramps were very effective in crowd management during Mahakumbh. These new standard wide FOBs will be installed in all the stations. All major stations will have a senior officer as Station Director. All other departments will report to the Station Director. Station Director will get financial empowerment so that he can take on-the-spot decisions for improving the station,' the minister said. Two men transporting cattle tied up, made to squat, 2 held: Bengal Police
TWO MEN were beaten, tied up and made to squat allegedly by members of a Hindu outfit, accompanied by some BJP workers, in Durgapur on Friday after they were spotted transporting cattle – including cows – police said. Two persons were arrested in connection with the incident, they added. Citing local residents, police sources said that the two men, who belong to another community, claimed that they were returning from Barjora of Bankura district after 'purchasing cows for agricultural purposes.' However, the BJP claimed that the men were asked to show proper documents regarding the purchase of cows but could not do so. Some BJP workers staged a protest over the incident. TMC MLA from Pandabeswar, Narendranath Chakraborty, said, 'This can't be allowed in Bengal. We have approached the police and demanded stern action against those who did this.' In a post on X later in the day, the West Bengal Police wrote, 'Two persons belonging to a minority community, while carrying cattle for farming purposes, were detained and severely beaten up in Durgapur by some hooligans… A case has been registered over the incident and two of the miscreants have been arrested. Raids are on to apprehend all those involved…' The police added, 'Nothing and no one will be allowed to dent our state's tradition of inclusivity and harmony.
