Police warn motorcycle convoys not to block traffic
Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID)director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said those found guilty under Section 48 of the Road Transport Act 1987 could be fined between RM1,000 and RM5,000, face imprisonment of up to one year, or both.
"Every group movement or convoy must be reported to TEID for coordination purposes, to ensure the safety of all road users," he said.
"If a motorcycle convoy does not receive official security assistance from TEID, it must fully comply with all traffic regulations. The use of escorts or marshals to control traffic during convoy movements is strictly prohibited," he said in a statement today.
A video clip showing a group of motorcyclists riding in convoy on the highway, escorted by several individuals wearing yellow safety vests, has recently gone viral.
He said that the incident is believed to have taken place at KM 285 of the North-South Expressway, southbound, near Nilai, Negri Sembilan, involving a convoy travelling from Kuala Lumpur to the southern region of the country.
He stressed that all road users must practice tolerance and consideration to ensure smooth traffic flow and mutual safety.
"All slow-moving vehicles must keep to the left lane and avoid obstructing faster vehicles," he said.
He also advised all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, to cooperate and adhere to traffic rules on all types of roads, whether highways, state roads, or city streets.

QuickCheck: Did a driver get into an accident while racing in Johor?
In the rush of adrenaline and the thrill of speed, racing on public roads can lead to unexpected turns. When competitive spirits take over, sometimes the outcome is more than just a victory or loss. Did a driver really get into an accident while racing in Johor? VERDICT: TRUE A male driver escaped unhurt after his car rammed into the road dividers at KM4 of the Pasir Gudang Highway. Johor Baru OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said the incident happened at the stretch towards Perling at 12.22 on Wednesday (July 23). He said police received a report on the incident from a 21-year-old man who was the driver of the ill-fated car on July 23 at 8.58pm. He said the account holder of the Community Road Johor – CRJ Facebook page, uploaded the 60-second video. "Our investigation found the male driver had overtaken the 24-year-old female driver on the right lane," said ACP Balveer. ACP Balveer said the male driver then hit the rear part of the right side of the woman's car, adding the male driver failed to apply his brakes. "Both drivers tested negative for drugs and driving while intoxicated," he said, adding the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. ACP Balveer called upon those who have information on the case to contact the investigating officer Insp Ong Jing Siong at 011-16490168.

[UPDATED] Colliding motorcycles caused chain reaction killing 3, injuring 12 others
SEREMBAN: A collision between three motorcycles is believed to have caused a chain reaction which resulted in the death of three motorcyclists and 12 others being injured along the North South Expressway near the Seremban exit early today. Seremban police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Hatta Che Din said the incident occurred at around 2.30am at KM 262.5 (northbound), when a convoy of motorcyclists was enroute to Kuala Lumpur from Senawang. "Early investigations revealed the riders were traveling in a group using the middle and right lanes of the highway when three motorcycles at the front collided with one another," he said in a statement today. He said the initial crash caused the riders to fall on the road, triggering a domino effect as 12 other motorcycles travelling behind slammed into them. "All those involved were thrown off the motorcycles. "A car and a lorry traveling along the same route were also hit in the rear and right side by several of the motorcycles," he said adding that the accident resulted in the deaths of three motorcycists who were pronounced dead at the scene. "The remaining 12 injured riders were rushed to Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital in Seremban. Two of them are in critical condition and are currently being treated in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU)," he said, adding that the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Rembau Hospital's Forensics Department for post-mortem. Hatta urged motorcyclists to ride responsibly, avoid excessive speeding and refrain from weaving in and out of traffic, stressing that reckless riding can lead to fatal consequences. He urged those with information on the incident to contact the investigating officer Inspector Tiew Chuan Jie at 014-9668399 or report to the nearest police station. "The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving," Hatta added.
