Verdict on custody petition of Siraj Ur Rehaman likely today
The court is expected to announce its decision on Wednesday. The petition aims to gather further information on his alleged plan to trigger terror using improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Siraj was arrested on May 16 at his residence in Vizianagaram for allegedly conspiring to carry out terrorist attacks using explosives procured online.
Police seized 250 grams of aluminium powder, 500 grams each of potassium nitrate and sulphur, a Lenovo tablet, a weighing scale, PVC gum, a hacksaw blade, HDP pipes, and other items. He has been remanded to 14-day judicial custody and sent to Visakhapatnam Central Prison.
Speaking to TNIE, in-charge Superintendent of Police (SP) SV Madhava Reddy said, 'Siraj Ur Rehaman was radicalised by social media during his coaching in Hyderabad. He returned home, procured explosive material online, and planned to make IEDs. Based on credible information, we arrested him and later Sameer.'

15-year-old tribal girl with learning disability sexually assaulted in Pune
A 15-year-old tribal girl with a learning disability was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 40-year-old man at a village in Pune district, police said. The accused, who was booked on July 14, was allegedly beaten up by the girl's family members after the incident and has been hospitalised with fractures on his hands, the Pune Rural police said. The incident took place in a village in Pune district on the evening of July 14. Police said that the victim girl belongs to the Katkari community and she has a learning disability . 'The accused and the girl are from the same village. At the time of the incident, the victim was with another girl from her neighbourhood, standing near their houses. As the accused approached the two girls, the other girl escaped. The accused then sexually assaulted the 15-year-old girl. The accused also thrashed and threatened her,' said an officer from Pune Rural police. 'As the incident came to light, the family members and uncles of the victims beat up the accused. He has sustained fractures on both hands and is currently hospitalised. He will be placed under arrest after his discharge from the hospital,' the officer said. The accused has been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 74 (Assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 115 (Voluntarily causing hurt), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace). Police have also invoked provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offfences Act (POCSO), including sections 8 (Punishment for sexual assault), 10 (punishment for aggravated sexual assault) and 12 (punishment for sexual harassment) along with sectionsof Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Agra cops arrest 2 in Barrackpore over religious conversion
Kolkata: The Agra cyber crime cell of UP Police arrested two people from Barrackpore on Thursday for allegedly abducting two women and forcing them to undergo religious conversion. Accused Sekhar Roy alias Hassan Ali is a resident of Bakar Mahal in Barrackpore Cantonment and an employee of Barasat court. The other accused, Rith Banik alias Mohammed Ibrahim, is a resident of Manirampur in Barrackpore. Police said the arrests were made following an FIR by Anil Bhatia, a businessman in Agra's Sadar Bazar area. Bhatia alleged the duo abducted his two daughters and forced them to convert to Islam. Agra cyber crime police registered a case and rescued the two women before launching an operation to track down the accused. The accused were produced before the additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM) court on Thursday afternoon. The court granted UP Police three days transit remand to take the accused back to Agra . UP Police sources said the arrests were linked to the probe into the Chhangur Baba religious conversion racket. "The arrest of Chhangur Baba exposed a major network operating across several states. During interrogation, names of Roy and Banik surfaced. This racket is suspected to have victimised over 1,500 girls," a senior police officer in Agra said. Police are probing Roy's financial links because a preliminary scrutiny of his bank accounts revealed large transactions from abroad. A source at the Barrackpore police commissionerate said, "We have shared the information available with us with our UP counterparts. The racket seems to have international links. Money laundering angles are being investigated."

Online gambling racket busted; six arrested
Jhansi: Busting an international gambling racket, the Jhansi police arrested six online gamblers late on Wednesday night. According to police, all the accused, hailing from various parts of the state are reportedly well-educated, with a couple of them being engineers. However, the mastermind of the gang, which was mainly betting on cricket matches, remains absconding and is believed to be running operations from Dubai. The police also recovered 26 mobile phones, 62 ATM cards, five bank passbooks and cheque books, one laptop, along with other computer peripherals used in the gambling activities. Sharing details on the modus operandi, SP City Gyanendra Kumar Singh said the accused developed their own app and were operating through a website called using individual user IDs and passwords. Communication was maintained via WhatsApp, with all financial transactions taking place online. Upon receiving inputs, the police raided the house of one Farid alias Baba Mistri near Unnao Gate in old city area under City Kotwali jurisdiction, where they found the accused engaged in online gambling. Those arrested are Sumit Singhania (26), Rinku Jatav (27), Saurav Jatav (27), all from areas under Madrak police station of Aligarh district; Yogesh Chaudhary (22), Krishna Rana (24), both residing in Balajipuram under Narali police station of Mathura district, and Raja Ahirwar (26) from neighbouring Daitya of Madhya Pradesh. Two of the main operators— Krishna and Yogesh— are BTech degree holders and travelled to Dubai for training in operating the gambling network. All the accused were booked under section 3/4 Public Gambling Act and section 112(2) BNS. "The mastermind of the gambling racket is still absconding and is presumed to be in Dubai. We are investigating their links pan India and abroad. There are more accused wanted in connection with this case," SP City said.
