Activity at Chinese ports has rebounded since US President Donald Trump and China's leader Xi Jinping agreed to resume trade talks and put off imposing massive tariffs on each other's exports.
That's true also of inland ports along China's mighty Yangtze River. The Chongqing International Logistics Hub Park, more than 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from the nearest sea port, serves as a critical element of a land–sea trading corridor and part of China's vast Belt and Road Initiative connecting with countries across Europe, Africa, and Asia. About 20 trains leave every day, some for Russia and others toward Europe via Central Asia. Top exports include electronics, machinery, and electric vehicles, including sedans assembled at Avatr Technology's factory in Chongqing, long a major river port and industrial center. Imports include auto parts, luxury goods, and medical equipment.
Some 900 kilometers (560 miles) downriver from Chongqing, the Yangluo port is another major distribution center connecting China's eastern seaboard with its vast inland regions. In 2024 it handled 2 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units), but in April activity nearly stopped as trade was disrupted by the tariffs as Trump escalated his trade war. It resumed from mid-May after China and the US agreed to step back and talk rather than to escalate trade tensions further.

In an interview broadcast on Sunday on Fox News, Trump reiterated his confidence that the strikes had destroyed Iran's nuclear capabilities. 'It was obliterated like nobody's ever seen before. And that meant the end to their nuclear ambitions, at least for a period of time,' he said on the 'Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo' program.

Saudi Arabia and China sign executive program to strengthen cultural collaboration
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Ministry of Culture and the China-Arab Cultural and Tourism Cooperation Research Center signed on Sunday an executive program aimed at further strengthening collaboration between Saudi Arabia and China in the cultural field. The executive program was signed by Deputy Minister for Research and Cultural Heritage Affairs Dr. Maha Abdullah Alsenan, and Vice President of Beijing International Studies University and Member of the Joint Committee of the China-Arab Research Center for Cultural and Tourism Cooperation Cheng Wei in a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture in Diriyah. The executive program, taking place in parallel with the 2025 Saudi-Chinese Cultural Year, reinforces joint efforts in cultural areas. Under the program, the two sides will jointly carry out research projects to enhance the quality of cultural research submitted and collaborate to identify and compile cultural content related to each country held in national archives. In addition, the Ministry of Culture will collaborate with the Chinese side to hold joint conferences and support mutual visits and exchanges between cultural researchers from both countries to discuss common cultural issues. The program also includes support for research exchange operations, facilitating visits by Saudi researchers to Chinese universities and research centers, as well as by Chinese researchers to Saudi universities and research centers. It provides both sides with specialists in cultural fields, offers support in the research fellowship program, and provides consultative support. This executive program comes within the context of the Ministry of Culture's commitment to promoting international cultural exchange as one of the objectives of the National Culture Strategy under the Saudi Vision 2030. This is also an extension of the activities of the 2025 Saudi-Chinese Cultural Year, which aims to consolidate the close relations between Saudi Arabia and China in various development fields, particularly in the cultural field, which has witnessed significant growth and development in recent years.

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump branded the winner of New York City's mayoral Democratic primary a 'pure communist' in remarks that aired Sunday, an epithet the progressive candidate dismissed as political theatrics. Zohran Mamdani's shock win last week against a scandal-scarred political heavyweight resonated as a thunderclap within the party, and drew the ire of Trump and his collaborators, who accused Mamdani of being a radical extremist. The Republican's aggressive criticism of the self-described democratic socialist is sure to ramp up over the coming months as Trump's party seeks to push Democrats away from the political center and frame them as too radical to win major US elections. 'He's pure communist' and a 'radical leftist... lunatic,' Trump fumed on Fox News talk show 'Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.' 'I think it's very bad for New York,' added Trump, who grew up in the city and built his sprawling real estate business there. 'If he does get in, I'm going to be president and he is going to have to do the right thing (or) they're not getting any money' from the federal government. The Ugandan-born state assemblyman had trailed former governor Andrew Cuomo in polls but surged on a message of lower rents, free daycare and buses, and other populist ideas in the notoriously expensive metropolis. Although registered Democrats outnumber Republicans three to one in New York, victory for Mamdani in November is not assured. Current Mayor Eric Adams is a Democrat but is campaigning for re-election as an independent, while Cuomo may also run unaffiliated.
