‘Big Trouble in Little China' actor Peter Kwong dead aged 73
The actor, best known for his role in John Carpenter's cult classic 'Big Trouble in Little China', passed away in his sleep on Tuesday (28.05.25), according to a statement from his team.
Deadline, which first reported his passing, said: 'His reps told Deadline that Kwong died overnight Tuesday in his sleep.'
Over a career spanning more than four decades, Peter appeared in nearly 90 film and television roles and was widely respected for his contributions to the screen and the acting community through his work in industry organisations.
Born in Los Angeles in 1950, Peter began his acting career on television in the late 1970s, landing roles in series such as 'Wonder Woman', 'Little House on the Prairie', 'Miami Vice' and 'The A-Team'.
His first appearance in film came in the 1977 drama 'Panic in Echo Park'.
In 1986, Peter landed two of his most notable roles.
He portrayed Tommy Tong opposite Eddie Murphy in the fantasy comedy-adventure 'The Golden Child', and Rain, one of the three elemental martial artists in 'Big Trouble in Little China'.
The latter, which also starred Kim Cattrall and Kurt Russell, was a commercial disappointment upon release but has since grown into a cult classic.
Speaking about his role in the Carpenter-directed film, Peter once said: 'The character of Rain was something special. The fight choreography, the costume – it all came together in a way that stuck with people.
'Even decades later, fans still come up to me and talk about it.'
That same year, he also appeared in 'Never Too Young to Die'.
Beyond his on-screen work, Petr was active in promoting representation and supporting actors' rights in the industry.
He served on the Screen Actors Guild's National Board of Directors for more than 10 years and was a member of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists' National Board.
The actor and martial artist also held positions on the Television Academy's Board of Governors and the Actors Branch Executive Committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

James Gunn has said that Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman will 'of course' meet in the DC Universe (DCU). The 58-year-old director is set to kick off the DCU on the big screen with the upcoming blockbuster Superman, and while Gunn insisted the superhero will not cross over with Batman and Wonder Woman in the next film, the moviemaker stressed the iconic trio will eventually team up in a future project in the franchise. When Deadline asked the DC head if there was a chance Superman could cross paths with Batman and Wonder Woman in the future, he said: 'Of course, yeah! But not in the next movie.' After the outlet quizzed the Guardians of the Galaxy director on whether the team-up could happen in the next few years, he said: 'You have to remember all this stuff is talks inside my head. 'So there's a lot of chatter in my head that does a lot of things! But the DCU is chatter in my head, not talks!' This comes after Gunn said he thought Adria Arjona would be a 'great' Wonder Woman, He told Extra: 'I follow Adria on Instagram but everybody came out [and said], 'He just followed her, that means she's Wonder Woman.' She'd be a great Wonder Woman, by the way. 'She was in a movie that I made seven years ago. We've been friends and have known each other since that time. I followed her then, I didn't just follow her.' Gunn also teased Superman may have already crossed paths with Batman in the DCU. Speaking about how the Man of Steel would react to meeting the Dark Knight in the DCU, The Suicide Squad filmmaker said: 'Well, first of all, we don't know if he's already seen a man dressed up as a bat. 'But I think that he'd probably see a kindred spirit in that [here's] another crazy person wearing a crazy costume [albeit] with a very different intent.' DC already has an on-screen Caped Crusader with Robert Pattinson's The Batman, though the movie and its 2027 sequel The Batman: Part II are Elseworlds projects and do not take place in the main DCU timeline. The idea of bringing Pattinson's Dark Knight into the DCU and portraying the character in the upcoming Batman movie The Brave and the Bold had been theorised, but Gunn has since rejected it. During an interview with Variety, he said: 'I wouldn't rule anything out. He could show up in something else. But the actor doesn't exist [for Batman in the DCU yet].' Gunn's Superman - which lands in cinemas on 11 July - follows the titular hero (David Corenswet) as he tries to balance his human and Kryptonian lives, all while Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) does everything in his power to bring about his downfall. The film will also introduce a range of other beloved DC heroes, such as Guy Gardner's Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi). Despite his new position as the DCU lead, Corenswet previously insisted he doesn't know what Superman's future will be in the franchise after the film. When Esquire Espana asked the 31-year-old actor what he would be doing in the DCU post-Superman, he said: 'I don't think it's up to me to answer that. It's up to James Gunn, who has a terrific imagination, and he is just there where they need [him] to be to say what was written, although that doesn't always happen.'

Gabriella Wilde describes her style as "tomboyish". The Wonder Woman 1984 actress admits jeans and a T-shirt are the foundation of her wardrobe, and she rarely wears "anything nice" at home, because it will be "ruined immediately". Gabriella - who has three sons, aged 11, nine and five - told HELLO! magazine: "I'm not someone who wakes up, and puts on an outfit and make-up, you know? Rob Delaney joins Being Heumann film
Rob Delaney has joined the cast of Being Heumann. The Dying For Sex actor is the latest star announced for the civil rights drama movie, alongside Ballroom actress Madeline Delp, and The Piano Lesson star Ray Fisher. Mark Ruffalo, Ruth Madeley, and Dylan O'Brien will also appear in the film, which is based on the memoir Being Heumann: An Unrepentant Memoir of a Disability Rights, by disability activist Judy Heumann. According to Deadline, Delaney will portray Congressman Miller in the Apple movie. The character is said to be inspired by George Miller, who supported Heumann in her disability rights battle in the 1970s. Disability advocate Delp is to portray disability rights activist Kitty Cone and Fisher will appear as Chuck Jackson, a member of the Black Panther Party. Heumann - who was left paralysed from polio aged 18 months old - is best known for leading a 28-day sit in at the US Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW) in San Francisco in 1977. She led more than 100 people to take over the building, to protest that the Rehabilitation Act's Section 504 - which protects qualified individuals from discrimination based on their disability - should be enforced. The Act had been signed in 1973, but Section 504 had not been enforced, but the protest resulted in the signing of Section 504, meaning all federal spaces were accessible. President Jimmy Carter had vowed to enforce Section 504 after he was elected president in 1976, but Joseph Califano, Carter's Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare, then said he wanted more time to review it, sparking the protest. Heumann previously told the BBC: "We were very, very concerned that they were going to make drastic changes to the rules. "We had been fighting very hard for many years to get the rules [to] where they were. So we said, if the regulations were not signed by a certain day there would be demonstrations around the country in nine or 10 cities." Madeley will take on the role of Heumann - who died in 2023, aged 75 - and Ruffalo will portray Califano. Sian Heder will direct the Apple Studios movie.
