From ‘Ghost Town Alive!' to ‘Summer Nights' band performances, season of easy living opens at Knott's

Summer at Knott's is here with Wild West-themed character interactions, nightly live music and lots of dancing.
Ghost Town Alive! runs during the day — culminating with a family-friendly, dance-filled hoedown full of step-heeling and grape-vining through Calico Park. Meanwhile, Knott's Summer Nights livens up the evening and night with bands and performers at multiple stages throughout the park. The two summer events launched June 13 and run through Sept. 1.
'Summer Nights has been entertaining our guests since 2019 and since then we've seen the [evolution] of new bands, new music and of course great fun for all of our guests,' said producer Christopher Do. 'Ghost Town Alive has been running since 2016, the 75th anniversary of Ghost Town. Some of the citizens have changed throughout the years as a new storyline is presented with each subsequent year.'
Do said guests can expect a mix of new and returning live music for this year's Knott's Summer Nights.
'We're excited to introduce some new bands to the mix,' he said. '90s Rockshow was a guest favorite last year and this year guests can find them at the Calico Mine Stage. Also joining this year at the Calico Mine Stage is Midnight Regret playing some familiar top '40s hits. At the Calico Park stage, we are welcoming a few new bands: the Ritchie Hummins Band, Tommy Drinkard & the Remedy as well as some returning favorites like Jonathan Stout and his Campus Five, and Stone Soul.'
There are also some fun returning games including Fla-ringo, Cornhole and Zing That Ring — a habit-forming hook-and-ring game located on the outskirts of the Calico Mine Stage. Also at the Calico Mine Stage, Do said, they are introducing some new pay-to-play games with special prizes developed by the Knott's Games department.
In addition to the big hoedown, Ghost Town Alive! also features a whole Ghost Town full of characters and activities — from the fire wagon coming through with some water misting to interactions in the dress shop and visits to The Old School House. Characters may elicit the help of guests in secret missions and puzzle-solving.
'The puzzles and immersive elements of Ghost Town Alive! are designed to appeal to every level of guest — from the casual observer to the deep diver or returning guest,' Do said. 'Often, our citizens may use puzzles to help deepen the experience of any one of our guests.'
Show Director Rovin Dickinson said acting in Ghost Town Alive! is different from other forms of performing in that it requires making the guest the star in their story and sometimes the focus of attention — the role usually reserved for the actor.
'Each guest is different, and every interaction unique. For the performer, it may be challenging at times to be the supporting role in several different experiences at once,' Dickinson said. 'Our citizens are great at meeting our guests where they are at, encouraging them to engage as much or as little as they desire. It's sometimes as simple and as a quick question of what they're doing or if they can help with a task to get them engulfed into the story.'
Of course, as with other big seasonal events at Knott's, food is a big part of the fun.
Director of Food and Beverage Wilf Seymour said 40 new menu items were added in time for their Flavors of Summer.
'This summer, we will be trying out some new summer favorites with a Knott's twist. Blue Bunny is our ice cream supplier, and our pastry chef took inspiration from the strawberry shortcake bar and turned it into a new dessert called the strawberry crunch bar,' he said. 'We serve a lot of elotes during the summer, so we've decided to include it as a topping on our new summer pizza — the delicious roasted elote and chicken pizza with chipotle mayo.'
They've also added kimchi crab tots — tater tots tossed in Cajun seasoning topped with imitation crab meat, kimchi, spicy mayo and green onions.
'Fresh berries are always popular during the summer. We have topped our fresh funnel cakes with lots of fresh berries for the new berry bliss funnel cake found at Sutter's Funnel Cake,' Seymour said. 'We have some great new beverages coming for the summer, like the juicy pale ale. We also have some great Italian sodas at Prop Shop Pizzeria.'
Another intriguing new item is the grilled pineapple beef burger.
'The grilled pineapple beef burger was based on a Hawaiian grill idea we were playing with,' he said. 'We wanted to make pineapple chicken, and then we tried a teriyaki beef dish that we had planned to do at Boardwalk. However, we needed a signature burger for the summer, and this led us down the path of experimenting with these ideas on a burger.'
The Tajin funnel cake was also a bit of inspired experimentation.
'We love to experiment with different combinations for our funnel cakes here, and the inspiration for the mango soft serve and Tajin funnel cake came from a mangonada, as well as a spicy funnel cake we served last year,' he said. 'We wanted to pair these two flavors together.'
Seymour said the summer menu is a 'fun creation' and captures many of the summer flavors that guests enjoy.
'We have had the opportunity to taste everything a few times and make some adjustments that make the menu items fit nicely into our theme park world,' he said.

What we know so far about Jeff Bezos' $50 million star-studded luxury Venice wedding

The rich and famous have descended on Venice, Italy this weekend to celebrate the wedding of billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and former broadcast journalist Lauren Sanchez in a show of all things money. The star-stunned event boasts a guestlist of some 200 celebrities and business elite, including President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Usher and a spattering of the Kardashians — to name a but few. And while the exact details of the three-day affair have been kept confidential amid city-wide protests, it is expected to rack up a bill of around $50 million. The couple will reportedly exchange their vows Friday at a black-tie ceremony on the private island of San Giorgio, away from public access, according to the Guardian. The main wedding reception, meanwhile, is set to be held Saturday in the Arsenale, a historic complex surrounded by fortified walls on the eastern side of the city. The venue was changed at the last minute from a 16th-century building in the center of the city due to security concerns. It follows a pre-wedding reception Thursday, which was held in the cloisters of Madonna dell'Orto, a medieval church in the central area of Cannaregio. Other side events are reportedly set to include a foam party and a Great Gatsby-themed soiree. The president of the Veneto regional government which comprises Venice, Luca Zaia, told reporters Tuesday that the wedding and its various accompaniments were set to cost 40 million to 48 million euros ($47-$56 million). Bezos, one of the world's richest people with an estimated net worth of $230 billion, according to Forbes, is also reportedly set to make a number of charity donations, including 2 million euros for Corila, an academic consortium that studies Venice's lagoon ecosystem. The expense doesn't stop there, however: many guests arrived early — via private jet, super yacht and helicopter — to enjoy the best designer shopping and high-end hotels the city of water has to offer. Five of Venice's most luxurious hotels, including the Cipriani and the Aman, have been booked out to host the guests, according to Reuters. The lavish display of money and excess has provoked backlash from local residents and environmental demonstrators who protest the use of the Unesco world heritage site as a playground for the super-rich. Venice has already been under pressure from over tourism, with the famed Italian city last year becoming the first in the world to introduce a tourist entry fee in a bid to alleviate the pressure of mass tourism and make it more livable for residents. Italy has, nevertheless, been experiencing a surge in wealthy arrivals — both to visit and live — as its more hospitable flat-tax regime and booming luxury real estate sector have proved a draw whereas other countries have sought to crack down on the uber-rich.

A $7 Million, Hulk Hogan–Themed Bar Is Body-Slamming Its Way Into Midtown

Just when you thought the area around Penn Station was going to suck less, an over-the-top, polarizing bar is on track to open in the area. In recent years, the neighborhood that used to be seedy has transformed into something closer to a destination, a result of Vornado's massive project that has ushered in businesses like the first Manhattan location of Roberta's, a Los Tacos, Bar Primi, a Blue Ribbon, Anita Gelato, and pickleball courts. At the very least, it has become a more welcoming place to eat, drink, and hang out before a train to Long Island, or an event at Madison Square Garden – like the Knicks playoffs. On the heels of the area's momentum comes a huge Hulk Hogan-themed bar across from Penn Station called Slam at 461 Eighth Avenue, at 31st Street. This comes from the legendary wrestler himself and nightlife veteran Rich Rosen, opening this $7 million, 9,000 square-foot space in the fall. Hogan – whose name is Terry Gene Bollea – is famous for more than just a storied career during which he debuted in WWE in 1979 across from MSG. And he's been twice inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Most recently, he has aligned himself with President Donald Trump, having ripped off his shirt during his speech at the RNC convention and said he'd like to be vice president someday. He also helped expedite the downfall of Gawker in 2016, when he was awarded around $140 million in a lawsuit. The windfall came following his suing the online publication for invasion of privacy and damages, following its sex tape story that involved Hogan having sex with the wife of a radio host. Hogan has teamed up on the project with Rosen, who is apparently connected with Scores strip club's next-gen property Scores Sports Bar, according to Page Six. It appears the latter of which was supposed to open in this space, as announced in 2023 (with the address 416 Eighth Ave listed) — and it doesn't appear to have any other locations. Whether Scores will ever open isn't clear; Eater reached out for comment. To get Hogan on board for the MSG-adjacent bar, Rosen told Page Six 'he sought out the wrestler because of his long and storied connection to the Garden,' and attended an autograph session, standing in line for five hours, before he delivered a photo of the building to convince him to lend his name in a licensing deal. The three-story bar with a rooftop that will feature memorabilia and play famous Hulk Hogan reels will open in the fall, Page Six reports. Hogan has a bar in Florida; this would be the first Hulk Hogan-themed bar in New York. He also has a brew line, Real American Beer, which Business Insider reported is in discussions to pick up the intellectual property for Hooters. See More:
