3 Immigration officers probed over escape attempt of 4 overstaying Chinese

The Bureau of Immigration is investigating three of its officers for possibly colluding with four overstaying Chinese nationals who attempted to evade airport inspection and leave the Philippines.
'Any personnel found to have assisted in the circumvention of immigration procedures will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law,' Immigration Commissioner Joel Viado said in a statement released Thursday.
According to the BI, officers of the Bureau's Immigration Protection and Border Enforcement Section intercepted four Chinese nationals as they tried to board separate flights to China and Vietnam at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Monday.
The Chinese nationals were identified as Zhang Zhaoya, Wang Linmei, Qi Xiangyang, and Chen Wenda.
The bureau said Zhang has been overstaying in the country since July 2024 while Wang and Qi have been overstaying since September 2024.
Though Chen has a valid working visa, the BI said he did not have an Emigration Clearance Certificate (ECC), which is a mandatory requirement for departing long-term residents.
'This interception reflects the Bureau's firm resolve to prevent foreign nationals who violate our immigration laws from escaping accountability,' Viado said.
'We are implementing redundancy checks, utilizing CCTV monitoring systems, and strengthening coordination among our units to prevent these attempts,' he added.
Meanwhile, the foreigners were turned over to the BI's legal division for inquest and fling of charges, according to the bureau. —Joahna Lei Casilao/AOL, GMA Integrated News

Two Chinese nationals in California accused of illegally shipping Nvidia AI chips to China

Two Chinese nationals were arrested in California and charged with illegally shipping tens of millions of dollars' worth of AI chips to China, including Nvidia H100s, the U.S. Justice Department said Tuesday. Chuan Geng, 28, of Pasadena, and Shiwei Yang, 28, of El Monte, exported the advanced Nvidia chips and other technology to China from October 2022 through July 2025 without obtaining the required licenses from the U.S. Commerce Department, a criminal complaint says. According to the complaint, Geng and Yang's El Monte-based company, ALX Solutions Inc, was founded in 2022, shortly after the U.S. imposed sweeping export controls on technology to China and began to require licenses for the chips. A spokesperson for Nvidia declined to comment. —Reuters

8 Filipinos rescued, 20 Chinese nabbed in suspected scam hubs in Pampanga

Eight Filipinos were rescued while 20 Chinese nationals were arrested in alleged scam hubs during two separate operations conducted at Clark Freeport Zone in Angeles City, Pampanga. Authorities first raided a compound of two villas where 17 Chinese nationals were nabbed, according to a report of GMA Integrated News' Bam Alegre on Unang Balita on Tuesday. Several equipment such as laptops and mobile phones were confiscated and are set to undergo digital forensic examination to gather more information on the operation of the suspects. Based on the chats seen on a computer, the suspects seemed to be running a love scam. Eight Filipinos were rescued in the operation. According to them, they are working inside the suspected scam hub for over eight hours in a day. 'May friend po na nagyayaya lang po. Maghahanap po ng client. 'Yun po, inaaral po namin kasi one week pa lang po kami rito,' one of the rescued Pinoys said. (There was a friend who was just inviting us. We are looking for a client. We are just studying it because we have only been here for a week.) 'Bago lang po talaga ako rito. Kakadating lang po namin kahapon. May inaantay po kaming tao. Hindi po namin alam basta ang sabi po mag-antay lang po kami dito,' another rescued Filipina said. (I am really new here. We just arrived yesterday. We are waiting for someone we don't know. They just said to wait here.) The 17 arrested Chinese nationals were not able to give a statement due to language barrier. Another residential property near the villas was also raided where three Chinese nationals were arrested due to alleged online fraud. The suspects were brought to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City. Authorities are checking if these two suspected scam operations were connected. Clark Development Corporation vice president for security Retired Major General Lina Sarmiento said, 'Dito sa loob ng Clark Freeport Zone since 2023, ipinagbawal na ng Clark Development Corporation ang anumang gawain na may kinalaman sa POGO. So napakaimportante nito dahil talagang nililinis na natin 'yung ating bakuran dito.' (Here within the Clark Freeport Zone since 2023, the Clark Development Corporation has banned any activity related to POGOs. This [raid] is very important because we are really cleaning up our yard here.) The raids were led by the Bureau of Immigration, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and the Clark Development Corporation. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA Integrated News

2 kidnap victims rescued, 4 Chinese nabbed in Parañaque ops

Two kidnapping victims were rescued while four Chinese nationals who allegedly abducted them were arrested in an operation in Parañaque City on Saturday, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday. 'Apat na Chinese nationals ang ating naaresto na naman ng Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) na sangkot sa kasong kidnapping na naganap sa isang kilalang resort sa Paranaque City,' PNP chief Police General Nicolas Torre III said in a press briefing. The kidnapping happened after a 30-year-old Chinese national asked for assistance from the suspects for the foreign currency exchange and transfer of P150,000 to China. The victim initially released P100,000. Torre said the suspects convinced the victim to go with them to a resort casino to finalize the transaction but it led to a kidnapping. The suspects were allegedly forcing the victim to transfer an amount of 50,000 USDT from his cryptocurrency wallet. According to Torre, the victim asked the suspects for his phone to contact his family. The victim secretly reached out to another Chinese national who sought help from the local police through a 911 call. Aside from the 30-year-old Chinese national, the police also rescued another female victim kidnapped by the suspects. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
