Norwegian ski jumpers suspended over 'cheat' suits
Brevik and equipment manager Adrian Livelten were suspended by the Norwegian Ski Federation this week.Brevik told local media he was "terribly sorry for what we did" while Livelten apologised for the situation Lindvik and Forfang "have found themselves in through no fault of their own"."What we did with the suits should never have happened and is an action I will regret for the rest of my life," Livelten said."We have always done what we can to optimise the suits within the regulations, but cheating is completely unacceptable."The FIS has seized all Norwegian jumpsuits from the World Ski Championships for reinspection.FIS secretary general Michel Vion said the situation was "disturbing and disappointing", and the investigation would "leave no stone unturned" to ensure "respect and fairness prevail"."Ski jumping is a discipline grounded in precision, in which equipment plays an important role," Vion added."This is why, year after year, we have a strong focus on reviewing equipment regulations and controls, to ensure that competitors are on a level playing field."Lindvik won gold in the men's large hill individual at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, while Forfang claimed a silver medal at the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang in the normal hill individual.

‘We'll definitely be back': Golf fans vow return to Northern Ireland as Scheffler claims Claret Jug at The Open
The total attendance for the championship week was projected at 278,000, according to the competition's organisers R&A. Tourism NI indicated that just under half of ticket holders (roughly 140,000 people) were residents of Northern Ireland. Players from 31 different countries competed at Royal Portrush, and among the remaining international visitors, approximately 20% came from the United States, while others hailed from the UK, Republic of Ireland, continental Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Thanakron Tandavas, from Bangkok, is an avid golfer himself. He actually won first place in a competition in Thailand, after playing a golf course simulator that exactly matched Royal Portrush, with the prize being a free ticket to attend The 153rd Open. He said he 'definitely' hopes to come back to Northern Ireland and play on the real Royal Portrush course in a couple of years. 'We don't have links courses in Thailand, and the weather here is much nicer and more brutal as well,' he said. 'It's really windy. There's a lot of slope and the grass is much harder than what we have. We actually played in London once at the London Golf Club. That itself is already hard. This is much, much, much harder for sure. It's going to be challenging for sure. This is our first time in the UK and first time in Northern Ireland. 'We spent our last night in Newry and it was amazing.' Rick and DeLynn Villareal, from Dallas, also praised the quality and ferocity of this island's golf courses — but another highlight for them was the local cuisine, particularly fish and chips. 'It's a beautiful country. We've been able to experience a lot of it, and we have played golf three times since we've been here,' Rick explained. 'The courses are incredible… It's completely different from any place you will play. 'American courses are a lot more manicured. You don't hardly see a tree on the courses here, right? We see tons of trees on the American courses, but the rough is really tough [here]. 'I mean, when you get off the fairway, it's an experience like you've never had before. 'You hit a ball in American courses, you'll hit a tree, it'll fall down, you can find it most of the time. 'If you hit your ball right or left of the fairway into the gorse [here], you'll have a hard time finding it. 'I think it's very affordable, as far as the other countries we go to. We were in Italy for 17 days last year and it was kind of expensive. But here, not only did you feel like you got your money's worth for what you did, but the food was outstanding. And the people — the people have been just unbelievable.' Norwegian fan Linn Anitam agreed, and especially praised Char+Mash, the Odyssey's newest restaurant in Belfast, for its beef. She and her party have been staying at The Flint hotel, which has cost around £800 for four nights. 'It's my first time in Northern Ireland. We would absolutely love to come back,' she said. 'We love the atmosphere and the people and everything. It's a really nice place. 'We went to Royal Liverpool a couple of years ago, but [Royal Portrush] is so compact. I think the distance isn't so big, so it's easy to go around and watch the players.' Craig Hodgson and Kent MacInnis, who are from Winnipeg in Canada, are friends with former Belfast Giants captain Shane Johnson, who continued to live in Northern Ireland with his family after he retired from professional ice hockey. Craig and Kent have been staying with Shane this week, just outside of Belfast, and they hope to make future golf trips here a tradition for their 'guys' trips'. Kent said: 'We did Dublin and the Guinness factory. 'In Northern Ireland we went to Donaghadee and did a nice little historical tour of downtown Belfast, about the history of the Troubles. 'And then, of course, on a guys' trip, we did a nice night out and hit the hotspots of the [Cathedral Quarter], which, in my opinion, is the best place I've ever partied in my life. 'It's unbelievable. For anyone who has never done it before, it is the best. I haven't partied that hard in a town in my life before.' He added that Portrush is 'a beautiful seaside town, truly breathtaking, especially when we're getting fine weather'. 'This golf course is truly one of a kind. It's the scenic views absolutely everywhere, the difficulty of the course, mixed with the Northern Irish people, who are just so friendly. It's been such a great time,' Kent, who has been to NI just once before, continued. For Craig, this is his first trip to the region. He said that, '100%, we'll definitely be back in five or six years when Portrush hosts The Open again'. 'We are excited to see Rory' - Shannon Aitken from Canada Chief executive Mark Darbon affirmed on Wednesday that R&A 'love' Royal Portrush. 'And one of the reasons we love this venue is that we've got sites to construct the infrastructure that we require, but we've also got so many natural vantage points to showcase the wonderful Dunluce links and its Causeway coastline,' he said. 'We look forward to coming here for many years to come.'

Napheesa Collier's record-breaking performance leads her team to victory in WNBA All-Star Game
INDIANAPOLIS — Napheesa Collier made a statement with her record play on the court and the players made one with warmup shirts for the WNBA All-Star Game. Collier scored a record 36 points to help her team beat Team Clark 151-131 in the WNBA All-Star Game that was devoid of defense but full of 4-point shots. This record offensive effort came a year after the league's annual exhibition game was a competitive contest that pitted the U.S Olympic team against WNBA All-Stars. The game capped off a weekend where negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement took center stage. Players wore T-shirts while warming up before the game that said 'Pay us what you owe us.' 'The players are taking this seriously, I think it sends a really strong message that we're standing really firm in certain areas that we feel really strong that we need to improve on. I think we got the message across,' said Collier, who was named the game's MVP. As she waited to get her trophy the crowd chanted 'Pay them more' and All-Star Brittney Sykes held up a sign saying 'Pay the Players.' Captain Caitlin Clark was unable to play for her team because of a groin injury she suffered earlier this week. She still served as ambassador for the weekend. Known for her deep logo 3-pointers, Clark would have loved a chance at the 4-point shot that was added to this game which was 28-feet from the basket. Both teams took advantage of the deep shot en route to the record-setting offensive night. They combined to hit 20 of the shots on 65 attempts. The 151 points scored by Team Collier broke the mark put up by Team Stewart of 143 in 2023 for the most in an All-Star Game. Collier's point total broke Arike Ogunbowale's previous record of 34 points scored last year. The combined total of 282 also surpassed the previous high total of 270 set in 2023. While there was little defense played, both teams challenged plays in the fourth quarter with the game not in doubt. One was successful and one wasn't. The game also featured rookies Paige Bueckers, Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen making up the largest rookie contingent at the game since 2011. Citron and Iriafen were on Team Clark, and Bueckers was a starter for Napheesa Collier's team. The replacements Kelsey Mitchell of the Indiana Fever and Jackie Young of the Las Vegas Aces were announced earlier in the day as starters for Team Clark replacing Clark and Satou Sabally of Phoenix. Mitchell received a loud ovation from the fans who were happy to have another one of their players in the starting lineup. Young didn't actually start as Gabby Williams took her spot as a starter. Young injured her hip in Las Vegas' last game before All-Star weekend. New rules Besides the 4-point shot, the game also included a 20-second shot clock instead of the normal 24 and the ability for teams to substitute during live play. There also were no free throws shot — not that there usually are many in an All-Star Game — until the final two minutes of the game. Instead players were automatically awarded the points. The only free throws were shot was by Skylar Diggins with 1:01 left in the game. She made both. Diggins also had the first triple-double in All-Star history. All four rules had been used at some point during previous All-Star Games, but not all in the same one. Stars put on show for celebrities The All-Star Game brought the stars out in Indianapolis. Rapper GloRilla performed at halftime while musicians Common and Jennifer Hudson sat courtside near WNBA legends Lisa Leslie and Tamika Catchings. Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton sat in a suite and got the loudest ovation from the crowd when he was shown on the videoboard.
