Leviathan is the latest anime on Netflix, sporting thrills, drama and adventure across its 10 episodes. Having watched the first season in its entirety, you may be wondering if this one has been renewed or cancelled. Well, wonder no more!
What is Leviathan about?
Based on the novels by Scott Westerfeld, Leviathan is a steampunk anime set in an alternate 1914 at the onset of World War I, where the world is split between two technological superpowers.
The Clankers (including Germany and Austria-Hungary) are pit against the Darwinists (like Britain) who engineer living creatures as weapons, including massive flying whales and airships made of bio-engineered beasts.
At the heart of the story is Prince Aleksandar 'Alek', the orphaned heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, now on the run after his parents' assassination.
Meanwhile, Deryn Sharp, a brave Scottish girl, disguises herself as a boy to serve in the British Air Service aboard the living whale-ship Leviathan.
Fate throws these two teenagers from opposite sides of the conflict together aboard the Leviathan, where they look set to change history…
Has Leviathan been renewed for Season 2?
At the time of writing, Leviathan has not been renewed for season 2. Generally Netflix would gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate.
With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly. Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show's future is made. So far, Leviathan has had a pretty mixed reaction online from audiences and critics alike.
Given the way this show is set up, and the ending we receive, we're predicting that this will be renewed for a second season. We may be going out on a limb here, but given the recent news about Netflix's impressive anime stats, plus the fact there are two other novels to adapt, this one seems tailor-made for a multi-season arc.
Completion rate is also an important point to note here too, and we do know that Netflix examine this closely with any show. It can sometimes take a while for the numbers to be collated though.
However, we could be proven wrong here and there may be a massive audience for this one. For now, we'll have to wait and see what happens!
What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about Leviathan season 2 at this point given Netflix haven't officially renewed or cancelled this one. Given the first season's conclusion, it does seem like it could be brought back for more drama and pick up where it left off.
If Leviathan does return, expect another 10 episode season and the same style of grandiose adventure and drama from before.

‘America's favourite dancer' joins Strictly line-up
'America's favourite dancer' will join Strictly Come Dancing. Alexis Warr, who was given the accolade in 2022 for winning the television show So You Think You Can Dance, will seek to make a similar impression on British audiences when the new series airs this autumn. She will be joined by another newcomer, Julian Caillon, the Australian ballroom dancer and physiologist. The announcement comes amid changes to the Strictly line-up following a series of scandals on the show. Giovanni Pernice was left out of the 2024 line-up following an accusation by Amanda Abbington, the actress and former dance partner, of 'inappropriate, mean, nasty and bullying' behaviour in training. He was cleared of any physical wrongdoing following a BBC investigation, but a complaint was upheld for his use of 'belittling' language. Fellow Italian Graziano di Prima was initially confirmed for the 2024 series, but was let go by the BBC after reports of misconduct with his partner Zara McDermott. In an Instagram post at the time, he wrote: 'I deeply regret the events that led to my departure from Strictly. My intense passion and determination to win might have affected my training regime. Respecting the BBC HR process, I understand it's best for the show that I step away.' Warr said: 'I've admired Strictly for years, so joining this incredible family is such an honour. I can't wait to step into the ballroom, pour my heart into every moment, and share my love of dance with the UK.' Caillon, who shares videos on social media of his work training with the elderly, added: 'I've watched it for years, especially cheering on all the amazing dancers I know and work with who've been part of it. I can't wait to get stuck in, have some fun, and be part of something special.' Rare original proof of David Bailey's 1965 Box of Pin-Ups discovered
David Bailey's Box of Pin-Ups of 1965 was a defining portrait of the swinging 60s, immortalising some of the most fashionable stars of the era, from John Lennon and Mick Jagger to Jean Shrimpton and Susan Murray. Now the original proof copy of this landmark portfolio of 36 portraits by one of Britain's foremost photographers has come to light for the first time. It is the personal working proof copy of David Hillman, the influential graphic designer who went on to give the Guardian a groundbreaking redesign in 1988. In 1965, Hillman co-conceived the Box of Pin-Ups with the magazine editor and political cartoonist Mark Boxer. This copy, in near-mint condition, was the finished concept presented to Bailey for final approval before printing. Its existence was unknown until now, having remained in Hillman's private collection. In an accompanying signed letter confirming its authenticity, he writes: 'Mark, a friend of David Bailey's, came up with the idea for a box of pin-ups – an idea Bailey was enthusiastic about. Bailey selected the photographs, and Mark tasked me with designing and managing the project under his direction.' The edition, a loose portfolio within a box, was published originally in 1965 by Weidenfeld & Nicolson. Plans for a second edition were dropped after Lord Snowdon – a distinguished photographer and sitter in the box, and Princess Margaret's husband – objected to its inclusion of the Kray twins, the notorious East End gangsters. The controversy of glamorising criminals reportedly cancelled plans for a US edition. The first edition is so sought-after by collectors that copies have sold for about £20,000, although one example, in which every portrait had been signed by Bailey, far exceeded that. This unique proof is priced at £25,000 and is being offered for sale by Bayliss Rare Books in London on the 60th anniversary of its publication. Oliver Bayliss, its founding director, told the Guardian: 'Box of Pin-Ups is one of the most iconic photography collections of the 20th century, but until now no one knew this original proof existed. 'What makes it so fascinating is that this isn't just a production copy or a variant. It is the prototype – the moment Bailey's concept became a finished object. And it comes from Hillman, one of the great British designers of the postwar period, whose role in shaping this work has often been overshadowed by the fame of the images themselves. 'It's an incredibly rare item … Proof copies are always sought after in the rare book trade. But generally, with something like this, a proof wouldn't have been thought to exist. It is incredible.' The portfolio's other famous sitters included the actor Michael Caine, the hairstylist Vidal Sassoon, the dancer Rudolf Nureyev and the artist David Hockney. Bayliss said: 'The 1960s were a time of radical change in every sense, and Bailey's portraiture was a striking departure from the more formal styles that had come before. His work was wonderfully informal, something we now take for granted but, at the time, it was groundbreaking. Bailey had, and still has, an uncanny ability to capture the personality of his sitters, not just their appearance. With the rise of celebrity culture in the 1960s, Box of Pin-Ups became a defining record of the era's most iconic figures and their characters.' He added: 'I'd say half [the sitters] are still very well-known names, and half have fallen by the wayside. The model Susan Murray is among those whose star has since faded.' Only four of the 36 sitters are women – and all of those are models. In the collection's notes, Francis Wyndham wrote: 'In the age of Mick Jagger, it is the boys who are the pin-ups.'
