Cirque du Soleil came to recruit ushers. We did an interview and they offered me a position as an usher for a show called Quidam that was playing at the Tropicana Field (in St Petersburg). That was my first job. I was 15.
I'D NEVER HEARD OF Cirque du Soleil, but I was absolutely blown away by what I was seeing. I was studying theatre, so it was quite a contrast to Broadway, which is what I went on to do.

I BROKE SOME OF the rules – I was very late to work as a 15-year-old high-school student is – and I was let go. I was disappointed, but didn't even think about Cirque or that I could ever perform or be involved in that capacity because I finished school for theatre.

WNBA half-time star Red Panda injured after fall from unicycle during show
The popular half-time show performer, who goes by Red Panda, fell off her unicycle and crashed to the court during a court intermission on Tuesday. The incident occurred during the WNBA Commissioner's Cup final between the Indiana Fever and the Minnesota Lynx, and she was unable to finish her show. Her condition was not immediately known. She appeared to be grabbing at her left wrist after the fall – she fell forward off the unicycle onto the court – and was helped off the floor in a wheelchair. Red Panda, whose name is Rong Niu, is a Chinese-American woman who comes from a family of performing acrobats. Her act is composed of her riding on her custom-built unicycle, which stretches about eight feet (2.4 metres) above the court, and balancing custom-made bowls on her lower leg before flipping them atop her head. She has performed at countless basketball games, including Game 5 of the NBA Finals last month in Oklahoma City.

K-pop stars BTS announce new album and world tour to come in 2026
K-pop superstar septet BTS will return in spring 2026 with a new album and world tour. Advertisement RM, V , Jimin , J-Hope , Members Jin Jungkook and Suga made the announcement on Tuesday during a live stream on Weverse, an online fan platform owned by BTS management company Hybe. It was the first time all seven members have broadcast live together since September 2022. 'We'll be releasing a new BTS album in the spring of next year,' the band said in a statement. 'Starting in July, all seven of us will begin working closely together on new music. Since it will be a group album, it will reflect each member's thoughts and ideas. We're approaching the album with the same mindset we had when we first started.' According to a press release, the band will be in the United States this month to begin working on new music. Jimmy Swaggart, US televangelist undone by prostitute scandal, dies at 90
Jimmy Swaggart, who was one of America's most influential televangelists in the 1980s before an affair with a prostitute brought his career crashing down, has died at the age of 90. Jimmy Swaggart Ministries confirmed his death on social media, and his family thanked medical staff at Baton Rouge General Medical Centre in Louisiana. It did not share details of the cause of death. In his heyday as a fundamentalist Pentecostal preacher, Swaggart had an estimated global audience of 200 million. Then came the prostitute scandal in 1988. With tears gushing down his cheeks, Swaggart admitted to his congregation that he had sinned – without providing details – and begged forgiveness. Swaggart, born March 15, 1935, grew up in the rough-and-tumble and racially segregated Louisiana backwater of Ferriday with two cousins who also would become famous – rock 'n' roll pioneer Jerry Lee Lewis and country singer Mickey Gilley. As a boy, Swaggart was surrounded by the fire-and-brimstone Pentecostal version of Christianity he would later take to the airwaves. His father, a grocer and a tough disciplinarian, preached himself from time to time and Swaggart was only nine when he claimed he was first 'called' to the ministry. 'You will preach my Gospel all over the world. You will even take it to Africa,' was the command that Swaggart said God gave him.
