Duke commit Dame Sarr named to Italy's training camp roster for 2025 EuroBasket

USA Today18-07-2025
Duke five-star commit Dame Sarr is among the 18 players selected to the Italian national team's preliminary roster for the 2025 FIBA EuroBasket Championship.
Sarr, born in Oderzo, debuted with the senior team in the 2025 EuroBasket qualifiers in February, logging three appearances. He has also represented Italy at the junior level three times, most recently at the 2024 FIBA U18 EuroBasket.
The 19-year-old will be joined in training camp by Donte DiVincenzo, Simone Fontecchio, Danilo Gallinari, Nicolò Melli and Saliou Niang, among others. The group is expected to begin practicing on July 23 before the start of the tournament on Aug. 27.
Sarr committed to Duke on May 22 over other programs such as Illinois, Kansas and Oregon. He split time over the past three years with Barcelona's first and second teams, becoming the second-youngest player to log minutes with the senior team in January 2024 (16).
The 6-foot-8 guard represented Italy on Team World at the Nike Hoop Summit in April, recording 17 points and four rebounds in 25 minutes in a loss against Team USA in Portland, Oregon. He was the second-leading scorer on the team, trailing only Baylor commit Tounde Yessoufou.
Sarr will now spend time with the Italian national team before joining the Blue Devils next season. He doesn't project to make the final roster, but the opportunity to train alongside several notable veteran players should prove to be a valuable experience for him.

Ezekiel Taylor Foundation hosts 9th gala honoring 2025 scholars this weekend

For nearly a decade, the Ezekiel Taylor Foundation has been uplifting young Black men in Chicago impacted by gun violence, providing scholarships, mentorship, and a path forward. CBS News Chicago's own Darius Johnson knows that power firsthand, as he was the foundation's very first presidential scholar. Now, meet the two new recipients and the woman who turned her father's tragic death into a lifeline for others. The two young men started as strangers and are leaving as brothers, bonded through loss, purpose, and a scholarship. For Ayipey Salinas, the court was his safe space since he was five years old. Today, he's a starting point guard at Illinois Valley Community College and a 2024 Ezekiel Taylor scholar. He said his inspiration comes from his stepfather, who stepped in after his biological father walked away. "I knew my dad. He stepped out of my life around when I was three." While he's grateful for the love at home, the mentorship, and the scholarship, they helped fill the gaps. "It's not a lot of people out here that really want to help other people," he said. "It's so many opportunities the scholarship comes with, so many mentoring programs, so many like mental health programs that come with this." He adds, "Just knowing that I have somebody that can help me through my life problems." A man who shows up, checks in, and holds you accountable. That support also helped Timothy James, who faced a different kind of loss. "It was spring freshman year when I got the news that my dad had passed," he said. His father lost his battle to cancer in 2023. Timothy was just a freshman at Alabama A and M. When his grades started to slip, the foundation stepped in. "They wanted me to continue to make him proud, continue working hard, bring my grades up because it started slipping at one point. So, they made sure they had folks on me and made sure that I was doing well in school. So, I keep pushing on no matter what," James said. The Ezekiel Taylor Foundation was created in honor of a different loss. Tenisha's father, Ezekiel Taylor, was shot and killed in 1982 at the age of 34. Rather than sinking into grief, 34 years later, she chose to pour into young Black men. Since then, she has helped nearly 200 people with tuition, mental health support, jobs, and mentorship. "I get joyful just knowing I'm a part of this family," Salinas said. "I want to give back to my community, I wanna build roads that aren't bumpy like on the South Side. Sidewalks, so it's safer for people to walk on. I want to do a lot for my community," James said. Two different paths connected through one foundation are asking for the public's help to keep it going. "Please donate to the Ezekial Taylor Foundation. Help us out, help many more Black men that are struggling in the city of Chicago. Help them become educated Black men." Both men head back to school in August. Salinas will continue his studies in computer science in hopes of working in cybersecurity someday. James is completing his second internship at Robinson Engineering. He hopes to return home next summer to work for them full time and be closer to his mom. The ninth annual gala is Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Hilton in Oak Lawn. Twenty-one young men will be introduced as the 2025 scholars. CBS News Chicago's Darius Johnson will serve as the emcee for the event.

Manchester United Are Eyeing A Move For This Serie A Winger: Decent Choice For Amorim?

In a recent post on X, journalist Sebastien Vidal claimed that Manchester United are eyeing a move for Bologna winger Dan Ndoye this summer. It is believed that the Red Devils are preparing to launch a €40m offer to land the Swiss wide player this off-season. Ndoye's Impressive Form In Serie A Ndoye had a productive campaign at the Italian club as he put in a string of impressive displays on the right side of their attack. The Swiss talent participated in 41 matches for Bologna last season, scoring nine times and earning six assists on all fronts. The Nyon-born wing wizard managed to shine at times on the right flank and did well to average 2.1 shots per 90 minutes in Serie A. He kept 34% of his attempts on target. However, Ndoye needs to improve his ball distribution in the final third after making 73.7% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via His current contract at the Italian club will run out in the summer of 2027. Therefore, Man United would have to make a good offer if they want to lure Ndoye to Old Trafford in this transfer window. (Photo by) Is Ndoye A Decent Choice For Manchester United? Ndoye is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with it out in the wide areas. He can strike the ball with power from long range and has got the eye to play some decisive passes on the offensive end of the field. The Swiss talent can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. However, he needs to find a way to improve his link-up play in the opponent's half. Furthermore, it remains to be seen whether the gifted wide player can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League if the Red Devils manage to bring him on board this summer. We can expect Ndoye to add more firepower to Man United boss Ruben Amorim's midfield. He is good enough to help the Mancunian club compete for a European place in the Premier League next season. At 24, Ndoye has his best years ahead of him which makes him an excellent choice for the Red Devils to pursue in this transfer period.
