Teacher accused of sexual abuse

The Star2 days ago
A female primary school teacher allegedly committed sexual acts on an underage boy in 2019.
The boy, who was one of her students, was between 13 and 14 years old at the time.
She faces four charges in total, and court documents did not disclose if she was still his teacher when she allegedly committed the offences.
The number of alleged victims in this case cannot be ascertained for now, as the names of all parties linked to it have been redacted from court documents.
The 34-year-old Singaporean woman cannot be named due to a gag order to protect the identity of the boy or boys.
She was charged yesterday with one count each of performing a sexual act on a minor and of harassment.
The woman is also accused of sexually grooming a minor and performing an indecent act on an underage boy.
The court heard that she is accused of meeting the minor, who was then between 13 and 14 years old, at a multi-storey carpark on at least two occasions to allegedly perform an undisclosed indecent act on the latter in 2019.
Court documents stated that between Feb 20 and Oct 8 that year, she allegedly committed an indecent act on a 13-year-old boy inside a car by hugging and kissing him.
She is also accused of sitting on his lap and getting physical with him.
The teacher is also accused of harassment when she allegedly stalked the male victim by sending him at least 18 unwanted e-mails despite being told to stop communicating with him.
The Straits Times contacted the Ministry of Education to find out her current employment status.
The woman's case has been adjourned to August.
If convicted of performing a sexual act on an underage boy, an offender can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
And for performing an indecent act on a minor, a first-time offender can be jailed for up to five years and fined up to SGD$10,000 (RM33,000).
A repeat offender can be jailed for up to seven years and fined up to SGD$20,000 (RM66,000). — The Straits Times/ANN

SWCorp installs CCTV to combat illegal dumping in Melaka

MELAKA: The Melaka Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) is stepping up efforts to combat illegal waste dumping by installing closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to monitor the situation and facilitate legal action. Its director, Nor Zaki Md Nor, said four out of 12 recurring illegal dumping hotspots in the state, Telok Mas, Alor Gajah, Batu Berendam, and Jasin, have so far been equipped with mobile CCTV units. He told reporters in Kampung Pengkalan Rama Tengah today that the initiative, which began this year, will be expanded to other identified locations in stages. "The installation of CCTV is a new approach we're implementing to curb illegal dumping by identifying offenders and facilitating legal action. "So far, we've seen promising results, with a 60 to 70 percent reduction at these sites, eventually leading to the closure of several hotspots," he said after the Gotong-Royong Cuci Duyong programme. The programme was held in conjunction with the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) initiative for the Duyong state constituency, officiated by Duyong assemblyman Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem. Nor Zaki said most of the illegal dumping sites were used for the disposal of solid waste from the construction, commercial, industrial and institutional sectors, involving unlicensed cleaning operators. He said that last year, one case involving illegal dumping was successfully brought to court, resulting in a RM20,000 fine. Separately, he said the Clean City Campaign is currently in progress, focusing on cleaning up towns and urban centres in conjunction with the WRUR programme. "The campaign involves thorough cleaning efforts, regardless of whether the area falls under our service jurisdiction or not," he said. Meanwhile, Mohd Noor Helmy said the Gotong-Royong Cuci Duyong programme saw the participation of 180 individuals, including SWCorp staff, members of the Malaysian Volunteer Department (Rela), and residents. He said that Kampung Pengkalan Rama Tengah was selected for the gotong-royong initiative to address cleanliness issues in areas not covered by the Historical Melaka City Council or SWCorp. – Bernama
