Gators land priority OF Jaden Bastian from transfer portal
Jacksonville center fielder Jaden Bastian has committed to the University of Florida baseball program, according to Baseball America's Jacob Rudner.
Bastian is a five-tool talent that could start right away at Florida. He batted .302/.433/.552 and crushed fastballs as one of the ASUN's most dangerous hitters in 2025. Bastian hit 11 home runs and stole 36 bases, checking off the baserunning, power and speed boxes. He's held down center field at an elite level, too. He'll have to compete with Blake Cyr, Kyle Jones and Hayden Yost for a starting spot, but Bastian should contribute plenty.
With Bastian and Jones now expected to make up two-thirds of the outfield, Florida has a chance to have one of the best groups in the country. It also gives the team some depth after injuries took out a chunk of the roster early on, including Jones.
Florida Baseball 2025 Transfer Portal Movement
Seven players have left Florida for the transfer portal this offseason. Left-handed sophomore Jacob Gomberg was the first to depart, followed by right-handers Alex Philpott (So.) and Carson Montsdeoca (Fr.). JUCO catcher Cole Bullen (Jr.) and right-handed freshmen Niko Janssens and Felix Ong made up the next wave of transfers. The most recent loss is freshman catcher Brock Clayton.
Florida's early exit from the NCAA Tournament allowed Kevin O'Sullivan to make recruiting calls ahead of schedule, and the Gators have brought in four names. Notre Dame senior Ricky Reeth and UCF sophomore Russell Sandefer are the new right-handed arms, and JUCO catcher AJ Malzone rounds out the group headlined by Bastian.

Rockets assistant coach Royal Ivey named to Texas Athletics Hall of Honor

Assistant coach Royal Ivey is joining Kevin Durant and DJ Augustin (front office) as current Rockets who are in the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor. Houston Rockets assistant coach Royal Ivey, who previously played in college at the University of Texas and then for several NBA teams, will soon be inducted into the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor. Ivey is among 10 individuals that will be recognized as the Class of 2025 during a Sept. 12 induction ceremony in Austin. Details on the ceremony are available here. From his Texas Hall of Honor biography: A four-year starter at both point guard and shooting guard during his career at Texas, Royal Ivey left his mark as one of the top one-on-one perimeter defenders in program history. A two-time Big 12 Conference All-Defensive Team selection, he finished his collegiate career ranked first in games started (126), tied for third in games played (133), and 24th in scoring (1,036 points). Ivey helped lead the Longhorns to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including three-straight trips to the Sweet 16 (2002, 2003, and 2004) and a spot in the 2003 Final Four. In addition to Ivey's extensive NBA ties, both as a player and assistant coach, the 43-year-old was also the head coach when South Sudan secured its first-ever Olympic berth and victory during the 2024 Olympics cycle. He has been considered for NBA head coaching jobs in recent years and might soon land one, though he's returning to the staff of Ime Udoka for at least one more season in Houston. As for the Texas Hall of Honor, Ivey joins Kevin Durant and DJ Augustin as current members of the Rockets who are part of that exclusive club of Longhorns legends. Durant was acquired by trade this offseason, and Augustin is a former player who is back with Houston as a front-office member. Both Durant (2006-07) and Augustin (2006-08) also played at Texas during the 2000s decade, although a few years later than Ivey (2001-04). More: Despite external coaching inquiries, Royal Ivey likely to stay with Rockets, Ime Udoka

Texas A&M transfer forward's 2025 eligibility is hanging in the balance

Texas A&M's 2025 basketball season may, or may not, include one of the program's recent transfer portal additions, as new head coach Bucky McMillan spoke to the media after the Aggies' practice on Thursday, and thanks to TexAgs basketball reporter Luke Evangelist, we now have an official update regarding USC transfer forward Rashaun Agee's eligibility. The issue is simple to explain: Rashaun Agee has been playing college basketball since the 2020 season, starting his career with New Mexico State, where he initially redshirted. In 2021, Agee was injured during the first game of the year, leading to his transfer to Casper College in the JUCO ranks during the 2022 campaign. After one season at Casper, Agee transferred to Bowling Green, where he starred for two seasons before moving on to USC the following season. After averaging 9.4 points and shooting an impressive 55% from the field, Agee announced his transfer to Texas A&M this summer and was the latest player to arrive on campus while still dealing with eligibility issues. When asked about his current status, here is what Bucky McMillan had to say about his current state with the team: 'You'd hope we get an answer here sooner rather than later…He's a guy that's worth fighting for. I think his circumstances are certainly worth the NCAA taking a close look at it. He's valuable to our group.' This would be Agee's seventh collegiate season, but something that could play in his favor is the fact that current Texas A&M baseball utility player Travis Chesnutt was recently granted a final year of eligibility after transferring from a JUCO program, so Agee is not in a terrible spot to receive good news. The Athletic's college sports survey: What do fans want?

College sports, football in particular, have been transformed. For good and for ill, an extended season of change over the past two decades has reshaped the industry — competitively, geographically, financially. Much of it has been decided behind closed doors, in court rooms and conference rooms, with the bottom line leading the way. Advertisement So as the battles continue over the College Football Playoff format, NCAA Tournament expansion, the House settlement and conference schedules amid a litany of legal and political landmines, we thought we'd ask you, the people who love college sports, what you think. This is The Athletic's 2025 college sports fan survey.
