Tom's Guide06-06-2025
Keeping kids safe in the digital world starts with proper parental controls. The Nintendo Switch 2 offers comprehensive tools to help you manage your child's gaming experience.
The setup process requires downloading Nintendo's dedicated parental controls app on your smartphone. This app then syncs with your console to manage restrictions remotely. You can set age-appropriate game ratings, monitor playtime, and control communication features.
Best of all, the system grows with your family. You can easily adjust restrictions as your child matures, gradually giving them more freedom while maintaining the safety controls that give you peace of mind.
Here's how to set up parental controls on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Navigate to System Settings icon (cog icon) on your Switch 2's home screen and select it. Scroll down through the settings menu until you find Parental Controls and click on it. From there, select Set Up Parental Controls to begin the process.
You'll be prompted to download the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app on your smartphone, which is required to manage restrictions.
The easiest method is to open your phone's camera and scan the QR code displayed on your Switch 2's screen. Alternatively, download it directly from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
Open the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app on your phone and follow the on-screen instructions to log in with your Nintendo Account. If you don't have a Nintendo Account, you can create one for free during this process.
When prompted, enter the six-digit code that appears in the app into your Switch 2 console to establish the connection between devices.
Use the smartphone app to customize restrictions based on your child's age and maturity level.
You can set age-based game rating restrictions, establish daily play time limits, and control who your child can communicate with through GameChat features.
The app also allows you to monitor your child's gaming activity, including which games they play and how long they spend playing them.
Review all your chosen restrictions and save the settings through the app. Remember that these controls aren't permanent, you can adjust them anytime as your child grows or demonstrates increased responsibility.
The app will continue to sync with your Switch 2, allowing you to monitor usage and make changes remotely whenever needed.

Is Madden NFL 26 cross-platform?

Just like you can always count on there being a new Call of Duty game every year, Madden is a series that never misses a yearly installment. This is easily the premier sports game on the market, with Madden NFL 26 being the first one to leave behind the PS4 and Xbox One generation systems. Even though the last game straddled console generations, it still was a cross-platform game, so one would hope that Madden NFL 26 would keep this fantastic feature going. Of course, you can never be too sure so I'm calling a timeout on the play to tell you everything you need to know about Madden NFL 26 cross-platform support. Does Madden NFL 26 have cross-platform support? According to EA, Madden NFL 26 doesn't have full cross-platform support, but almost. This year, Madden NFL 26 will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC. Cross-platform support will be available between PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, but not the Nintendo Switch 2. Sorry, Nintendo fans, but you will only be able to matchmake with other Switch 2 players. As far as what modes are available for crossplay, you will be able to go online in the Head-to-Head, Franchise, Madden Ultimate Team, Superstar KO, and Superstar Showdown modes. One feature of note that will not have crossplay is the Madden Ultimate Team Auction House. You can only spend your Coins on items put up by players on your specific platform. Recommended Videos As always, you can opt to turn crossplay on or off in the settings if you would rather limit your matchmaking pool to just your console. Besides crossplay, Madden NFL 26 also includes cross-progression so you can bring your Superstar avatar and purchases between platforms. Again, this has the same restrictions as crossplay, meaning Switch 2 players will be left out. Still, being able to transfer your Superstar and gear between platforms is a welcome feature, even if the Switch 2 is left out.

TL;DR: Get a Charging Dock for your Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Controllers on sale for $18.99. One of the most frustrating things about the original Nintendo Switch was the tiny batteries on the Joy-Cons. Keeping them charged required juggling which ones were attached to the console itself. That's why it's so nice that Switch 2 gamers can hit the ground running with access to a dedicated Charging Dock for new Joy-Con Controllers, and it's only $18.99 (reg. $29.99). This vertical dock is designed specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2 and can charge up to four Joy-Cons at once. It uses a magnetic alignment system for smooth, secure docking, and the weighted base keeps it stable so it won't tip over when you're swapping out controllers. The reversible connector makes docking easy too, so there's no wrong way to plug them in. To add a little flair to your gaming setup, the dock also includes nine RGB lighting modes. You can match your lights to your game or your mood and give your station a little visual upgrade. A built-in LED lets you know when each Joy-Con is charging or ready to go. It's also smart about safety. A built-in chip automatically cuts off power once charging is complete to protect against overcharging and overheating, helping to preserve battery life long-term. Charging takes about two hours, and the dock connects via USB-C. It's compact, durable, and blends into most gaming setups easily. Just note that it's only compatible with Switch 2 Joy-Cons, not earlier models. Joy-Cons not included. It's only $18.99 to get a Charging Dock for your Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Controllers, but it won't stay that way. StackSocial prices subject to change.

Nintendo revealed the Super Mario Odyssey team made Donkey Kong Bananza

As previews for Donkey Kong Bananza come in ahead of the game's July 17th release date, one tidbit has stood out on the development of this game. It's been several years since Super Mario Odyssey and now we know what that team has been up to, as Nintendo has officially revealed that the developers of Donkey Kong Bananza are the same team that made Odyssey. Nintendo has a good track record of retaining and training up talent. Developers that worked on early entries of the Kirby, Mario, and Zelda franchises have stuck around to work on or lead the development of subsequent titles. The result has been relative consistency of Nintendo first-party titles which has allowed the company to weather the ravages of the last two years a bit better than its competitors. Super Mario Odyssey was one of the top five best selling games of the original Switch so Bananza is in more than capable hands. According to The Verge's Cameron Faulkner, Donkey Kong Bananaza is its own game with a unique identity. But Odyssey's development team has added a bit of Mario's 3D platforming DNA to Donkey Kong's first 3D platformer since Donkey Kong 64. And while the mystery of Bananza's developer has been solved, a new one has taken its place: will there also be a 3D Mario game coming soon to the Switch 2 or is it just Bananza for now?
