Noonan emphasizing FC Juárez's strength before FC Cincinnati faces them

FC Cincinnati has no plans of slowing down after winning their Leagues Cup opener against C.F. Monterrey. And some players were already thinking about the number of wins to get to the final before the first contest, Evander said.
But next in the Orange and Blue's path is FC Juárez on August 3 (5:30 p.m. at TQL Stadium), the team's second match in the first phase of the newly restructured tournament.

Juárez won their first fixture of the Leagues Cup when they beat Charlotte FC, 4-1, in their opener. Before, they had been largely unsuccessful in league play, sitting 17th in the Apertura table through three contests.
Still, coach Pat Noonan noted strength in Juárez's performances, saying they are a tough squad to face. The Mexican side has played two of their country's most powerful clubs, Club América and Tigres UANL, in their first few fixtures.
Noonan said Juárez is aggressive and organized, citing their ideas with and without the ball. He also praised their movement centrally, which he said has caused trouble for opponents.
'Good to get familiar with what is an unfamiliar opponent for a lot of us,' Noonan said. 'Hopefully, we prepared our guys in a way where they understand how challenging and how good this opponent is.'
Leagues Cup format is punishing
With just four of 18 MLS teams advancing to the knockout stages, all three Phase 1 matches are critical. While FC Cincinnati's 3-2 victory against Rayados, behind a goal and two assists by midfielder Evander, put them in a solid position, they were one of eight MLS squads to win their opener.
Midfielder Pavel Bucha said the team is riding momentum from their win against Monterrey. He said there is more urgency under the new Leagues Cup format, noting that the team will try to score as many goals as possible because goal differential could be a determining factor in their advancement.
'The fact (that) we won that game will help us for sure in the game on Sunday, and again, we will do everything possible to win again,' Bucha said.
Noonan shares injury updates
Juárez is FC Cincinnati's third opponent in a four-match, 11-day stretch, which means some lineup rotation is likely for the Orange and Blue.
Forward Sérgio Santos, who started against Monterrey, did not train on August 2. Meanwhile, forward Kévin Denkey, who has been out for a couple of weeks with a leg injury, continued to train separately from the group as he recovers.
Noonan said Santos could be available, but he faces similar challenges to the discomfort that recently forced him to miss matches. Meanwhile, Denkey will be unavailable, but is 'progressing really well,' the coach said.
FC Cincinnati will close their first phase of fixtures against Chivas Guadalajara on August 7 before facing Charlotte FC on August 10 in their return to MLS play.

NFL suspends Vikings' Jordan Addison for 3 games over DUI case

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison was suspended for three games by the NFL on Tuesday for violating the league's personal conduct policy for a drunken driving case last year. Addison avoided a trial by pleading no contest to a lesser charge last month, after facing two misdemeanor DUIs for his arrest on July 12, 2024, when a California Highway Patrol officer found him asleep in his vehicle that was blocking a lane on an interstate exit near Los Angeles International Airport. Addison will be permitted to practice and play in exhibition games before the suspension kicks in for games against Chicago, Atlanta and Cincinnati. Addison, the 23rd pick of the 2023 draft, has 19 touchdowns and 1,786 receiving yards in his first two seasons to form a dominant duo with two-time All-Pro Justin Jefferson. But he was arrested for excessive speeding the week before training camp of his rookie year, and the drunken driving arrest last offseason came after another dangerous off-the-field decision. Addison was contrite and remorseful upon reporting to training camp last year, praising the Vikings for their support after he said he was in a 'dark place' after the arrest. Without Addison for the first three games, new starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy will need to lean on depth wide receivers such as Jalen Nailor, rookie Tai Felton and newcomer Rondale Moore if he's ready to play following his ACL rehabilitation. Tight ends T.J. Hockenson and Josh Oliver and running back Aaron Jones also figure to be vital options during Addison's absence to help keep defenses from keying more heavily on Jefferson than they already do. Addison, who finished his college career at USC after starting at Pittsburgh, matched Odell Beckham Jr. for the fourth-most touchdown receptions in league history by players before their 23rd birthday. Randy Moss (28), Rob Gronkowski (27) and Ja'Marr Chase (22) were the only ones with more. ___ AP NFL:

Disney earnings preview: All eyes on ESPN amid streaming push

Disney (DIS) is set to report fiscal third quarter results before the bell on Wednesday. Investor attention is squarely on its sports strategy amid reports that ESPN has reached a deal to acquire key NFL Media assets, including NFL RedZone, in exchange for an equity stake of up to 10% in the network. Sports remain a central pillar of Disney's streaming strategy as ESPN prepares to launch a new standalone service this fall. Analysts see the debut as a key step toward more bundling opportunities with Disney+ and Hulu as streamers across the industry work to retain subscribers and reduce churn. Here's how Wall Street expects Disney to perform, according to consensus estimates compiled by Bloomberg: Total revenue: $23.68 billion versus $23.16 billion in Q3 2024 Adjusted earnings per share: $1.46 versus $1.39 in Q3 2024 Entertainment revenue: $10.82 billion versus $10.58 billion in Q3 2024 Parks and Experiences revenue: $8.87 billion versus $8.39 billion in Q3 2024 Sports revenue: $4.44 billion versus $4.56 billion in Q3 2024 Disney+ subscriber net additions: 2.05 million versus 7.7 million in Q3 2024 "With the NFL as an investor, ESPN's long-term future is incrementally more secure," Morgan Stanley analyst Ben Swinburne wrote in a note previewing the results. "While the NFL cannot stop cord-cutting and will surely not give Disney a discount in future rights renewals, by investing in ESPN, the NFL will be even more motivated to help ESPN survive and potentially thrive in the new streaming-first world ahead," he wrote. Read more: Live coverage of corporate earnings In May, Disney raised its full-year profit forecast to $5.75 a share, marking a 16% increase from fiscal 2024. "If the macro backdrop remains healthy, we see Disney generating healthy double-digit adjusted EPS growth in the years ahead," Swinburne added, raising his price target on the stock to $140 from the prior $120. Disney stock has rebounded about 7% since the start of 2025 but still slightly lags the broader S&P 500 (^GSPC). The push into streaming comes as Disney continues to adapt to the mass exodus of pay-TV subscribers. In June, the company laid off several hundred employees across its global operations in a bid to streamline costs, with cuts impacting areas such as TV marketing, publicity, and corporate finance. In a statement to Yahoo Finance, Disney said at the time that it had taken a "surgical" approach to minimize the number of impacted roles, adding that no entire teams were being eliminated. Since 2023, Disney has cut more than 8,000 jobs as part of a $7.5 billion cost-savings initiative. Beyond sports and streaming, Disney's Parks and Experiences segment remains a key growth driver. Wall Street analysts expect operating income from the unit to accelerate in fiscal 2026, fueled by new cruise ships and the continued ramp-up of international and domestic park expansions. In a notable push abroad, the company recently announced plans to open a new theme park and resort in Abu Dhabi — its first major expansion into the Middle East and its seventh global resort. The move comes as fresh competition emerges closer to home following the debut of NBCUniversal's Epic Universe in May. Alexandra Canal is a Senior Reporter at Yahoo Finance. Vikings receiver Jordan Addison suspended for 3 games as a result of 2024 DUI

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison has been suspended by the NFL in connection to a DUI charge from 2024, the NFL announced on Tuesday. Addison will miss three games as a result of the suspension, though he is still permitted to practice with the team and play in the preseason. Addison was arrested in Southern California last July after being found "asleep at the wheel" while blocking a freeway lane near Los Angeles International Airport. He was charged with driving under the influence after being arrested under suspicion of drunk driving. Addison was facing a minimum three-game suspension from the NFL as a result of the incident. The third-year receiver was set to go in front of a jury trial last month, but instead pled down to a lesser offense. Addison will serve 12 months' probation as part of the lesser charge, known as a "wet reckless"; the charge, also known as "wet and reckless," is a reckless driving charge where alcohol or drugs are involved, but carries a lesser sentence than a DUI. In addition to receiving probation, Addison was required to pay a fine and finish two online courses related to driving under the influence, per Addison's agent Tim Younger, who said that he expects Addison's probation to end early after six months. As a result of pleading down, Addison will not have his driver's license suspended. Despite not being formally convicted of a DUI, Addison is still subject to the NFL's strict personal conduct policy, which states that players who have violated the policy can still be punished even if they do not receive a criminal conviction. Addison has put up two consistent years with Minnesota, starting in 15 games last season. He is the team's second-leading receiver and scorer behind star Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson, who is currently questionable with a hamstring injury without a clear timeline for return.
