BRS leaders castigate Revanth for his comments against KCR
During various press conferences, BRS leaders lashed out at the Chief Minister's comments concerning their party chief. MLA Vemula Prashanth Reddy asserted that Revanth Reddy's statements on irrigation lacked understanding. 'Only two pillars worth Rs 200 crores in just one barrage collapsed in the Rs 1 lakh crore worth project,' stated Prashanth Reddy. 'If the government wishes, it can be rebuilt and water can be provided to the farmers, but you have more political gain from spreading bad news than love for the farmers.'
Former Minister Gangula Kamalakar claimed that many areas of Telangana, once fertile due to Kaleshwaram, were now turning into deserts. He questioned the progress of water supply from Tummidihatti via gravity, asking, 'How far has it been completed?' Kamalakar urged Revanth Reddy to 'Go to Bade Bhai and get permission for the project near Tummidihatti and also national project status for this project.'

Corrupt MRO's arrest sparks celebrations in Telangana's Talakondapally
HYDERABAD: When local residents danced in jubilation amidst bursting of firecrackers, one would have thought that Deepavali had arrived quite early in Talakondapally. But the folks of this sleepy village in Rangareddy district were celebrating the arrest of a 'corrupt' Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO). As soon as the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught MRO B Nagarjuna red-handed while accepting a bribe and arrested him, the villagers gathered at the MRO office. They, in fact, started celebrating even as the ACB officials were still inside, completing the formalities of taking the MRO into custody. When TNIE reached out to the residents to understand the reasons behind their celebrations, they made startling allegations against the tainted officer, who was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 to register 22 guntas of agricultural land — originally in the name of the complainant's mother — in the names of the complainant, his brothers and sons. The locals alleged that the MRO fixed a 'rate card' for various services and amassed wealth worth crores. They also demanded that an inquiry be ordered to find out how he amassed so much wealth.

Sonia, Rahul acquired Rs 2K crore worth company for Rs 50 lakh, ED tells Delhi court
NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday told a Delhi court that Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi acquired full control of Associated Journals Limited (AJL), publisher of the National Herald newspaper, for a mere Rs 50 lakh, despite the company holding real estate assets worth over Rs 2,000 crore. The submission was made before Special Judge (PC Act) Vishal Gogne at Rouse Avenue Courts, as the Court continued hearing arguments on whether to take cognisance of the ED's prosecution complaint in the alleged money laundering case linked to the National Herald. Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju, representing the ED, stated that AJL owns valuable properties across multiple cities including Delhi, Lucknow, Bhopal, Indore, Panchkula and Patna, which were allotted post-Independence by central and state governments for the express purpose of publishing newspapers. However, according to the ED, shortly after AJL was taken over by Young Indian, a company controlled by the Gandhis, it was declared that Young Indian would not engage in any newspaper publishing, including the National Herald. The ASG contended that for assets valued at Rs 2,000 crore, the Gandhis paid only Rs 50 lakh, effectively acquiring the entire company at a fraction of its worth. Raju also alleged that close confidants of the Gandhi family were appointed directors of AJL, and financial transactions were structured in a way that amounted to fraud.

Odisha government refunds Rs 47 crore to over 1.26L chit fund investors in one year
BHUBANESWAR: The state government has refunded Rs 47.07 crore to 1,26,137 small depositors who were duped by chit fund companies, within a year. This achievement of the BJP government is in sharp contrast to the performance of the previous BJD government which refunded only Rs 119 crore to 2,79,109 small depositors over a span of 10 years from 2014 to 2024. The expeditious disbursement was possible after Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi directed to simplify the refund process and it's decentralisation to the district level, said the Chief Minister's Office. The chief minister has further assured that another five lakh small depositors will get refund of their money in the next three to four months. Majhi had during the budget session of the Assembly told the house that the state government was working out a set of guidelines to streamline the refund process for chit fund depositors. In its interim report to the state government, the Justice MM Das Commission of inquiry probing the chit fund scam had recommended compensation for 4,97,844 small investors while naming more than 450 companies for cheating the investors. Although the exact number of depositors affected in the chit fund scam is yet to be made public, some reports said around Rs 4,600 crore deposits were collected from the state by the chit fund companies.
