The Independent announces inaugural content partnership with Latitude 2025
Through June and July, weekly interviews will be broadcast on Instagram Live, with some of The Independent's top journalists in conversation with some of the brilliant musicians, authors and comedians on this year's Latitude lineup.
Each talk will focus on one of the main pillars that Latitude is celebrated for, weaving in insight and expertise from The Independent's journalists.
Beginning on 9 July with a Music discussion, the Instagram Live interview series will then cover Comedy (16 June), Debate (23 June), Wellness (30 June) and Literature and Theatre (7 July).

The evening Instagram Lives will be available to watch on both The Independent and Latitude channels, allowing festival fans an early preview of what to expect at the main event.
Guests for the Instagram Live talks will be announced in the coming weeks.
At the festival itself, which takes place between 24 to 27 July, a writer from The Independent will host a talk with a much-loved and soon-to-be-announced act on the Listening Post stage.

Among the artists on this year's eclectic lineup are Sting, Fatboy Slim, Snow Patrol, Sigrid, Basement Jaxx and Elbow, as well as a top comedy roster featuring Reggie Watts, Greg Davies and Bridget Christie.
Latitude will also host a number of science debates at the newly announced The Cosmic Shambles Forest of Science and Culture, starring renowned speakers including Dr Helen Czerski, Dame Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock and Dr Erica McAlister.

Day tickets start from £110 plus booking fees for adults, and £18 plus booking fees for children. Weekend tickets start from £308 for adults plus booking fees, £190 plus booking fees for teenagers, and £28 plus booking fees for children.

Instagram Restricts Live Streaming to Creators With 1,000 or More Followers

Yeah, this is not going to go down well with smaller creators on Instagram. Over the past few weeks, you may have seen this notification pop-up in your IG feed (via Social Varsity): Yes, Instagram has increased its follower requirements for live-streaming, which will mean that users who haven't grown their account to a certain level will no longer be able to broadcast in the app. Which will be a significant blow to many smaller creators who use IG Live for varying purpose, and have been able to connect to smaller groups via live-streams. Now, you'll have to do video calls instead. Which, if you only have 1,000 followers, will probably work anyway, but that'll also reduce any discoverability benefits that come from live-streaming on IG. So why the change? I asked Meta about the update, and it told me… nothing. Meta didn't get back to me with an explanation on the update, so I can only speculate on the possible reasons. For one, live-streaming is expensive to support, and maybe Meta decided that it's not worth paying to fund live-streams with only eight viewers. People can also use live-streams for less than savory purpose, by creating a new account, referring people to it, then broadcasting NSFW material. If it gets banned, so be it, and maybe, by increasing the threshold to 1,000 followers, that'll eliminate those who may be looking to use its tools for this purpose. It could also help to increase the quality of live-streams, by ensuring that only people with some sort of audience can broadcast. Like, you're less likely to be a full kook if you have at least a thousand people following you, and maybe, that could then increase the overall perception of streaming as a medium. The change also brings IG more into line with the live-streaming requirements of other platforms. On TikTok, users also need to have 1,000 followers to be able to live-stream, while YouTubers need at least 50 subscribers, which, considering the viewer-to-subscriber ratio, is probably about the same thing. YouTube also recently increased the age limit of live-streaming in the app to 16, the same age restriction that IG implemented back in April. So there's been broader action on live-streaming in general, for seemingly various reasons, and this is just another update along the same lines. Which, again, is bad news for smaller creators, but maybe you'll just have to put more time into building an audience before you broadcast.

Kelly Osbourne revealed that she no longer speaks to her older sister, Aimee, years before the death of their dad, Ozzy Osbourne. The Osbourne family confirmed Ozzy's death in a July 22 joint statement, marking the first time Kelly, 40, and Aimee, 41, have been publicly involved with one another since Kelly revealed their feud in 2021. Aimee told The Independent of her decision not to appear on the show. 'I wanted to protect myself, my parents, my siblings, too. They were very young, very impressionable.' She said that the family had 'shouting matches' over whether to accept MTV's offer before she was eventually outvoted by her parents and younger siblings. 'It didn't matter what I thought, ultimately,' she added. 'This was their path, their decision, and they were of course at liberty to take the opportunity. Which they did.' When MTV started filming, Aimee moved out. 'Obviously, I would have liked to stay at home a little longer,' she said, 'but it wasn't to be.' Later, in 2018, Sharon reflected on her daughter's departure from the family home and admitted that she wished she'd handled it differently.
