Prediction: 2 Stocks That Will Be Worth More Than Nvidia 5 Years From Now
Key Points Tesla's robotaxi could change the face of the company. Meta Platforms' AI advantage and low valuation could lead to a massive surge in the stock price. Admittedly, trying to ponder stocks that might become worth more than Nvidia may seem unimaginable. When demand for AI accelerators surged out of nowhere, so did Nvidia stock, and it is now a stock with a $3.85 trillion market cap, the world's largest. However, looking to the future, investors may begin to consider which stocks might outpace Nvidia over the next five years. While a lot could happen over that period, these are likely the stocks with the best chance of surpassing Nvidia. Tesla Admittedly, Tesla 's (NASDAQ: TSLA) current business does not look like a record breaker. Automobile sales have fallen recently, and its P/E ratio of 176 is pricey, especially considering its forward P/E ratio of 172 may imply little additional near-term upside. Still, investors should examine why Tesla trades at a 172 forward multiple, and the answer is likely autonomous driving. Tesla has invested heavily in AI and robotics to develop its platform. It has also begun to roll out robotaxis on the road in Austin, Texas. To that end, Tesla just demonstrated a fully autonomous delivery of a Model Y to a customer 30 minutes away from its Gigafactory in that city. Cathie Wood's team at Ark Invest saw that breakthrough coming. Amid that research, Ark Invest forecast a $2,900 per share price target for the company by 2029. That would amount to a market cap of $9.3 trillion, far above Nvidia's current market cap. Why so high? Ark Invest believes that by 2029, its self-driving platform revenue will surpass the revenue earned from automobile sales and predicts the robotaxi will make up 63% of the company's revenue by that year. Indeed, the robotaxi trials still need to succeed, and Tesla faces competition from Uber, Alphabet 's Waymo, and platforms like the ones being developed by Nvidia and Qualcomm. Still, its combined development of cars and the platforms that drive them may give Tesla a leg up on its way to surpassing the AI chip giant. That success should also dramatically reduce its P/E ratio, likely serving as a catalyst for a much higher stock price. Meta Platforms Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) has built its company on dominating social media. Its social media platforms now draw over 3.4 billion people daily to at least one of its platforms. With that popularity, the digital advertising business built around those users has given it a market cap of almost $1.86 trillion, approximately half of Nvidia's size. Unfortunately for the Facebook parent, its user base now makes up over 40% of the world's population, which will probably mean slower growth for its digital ad business moving forward. However, its aforementioned user base has given the company a treasure trove of user data that is likely unmatched by any other company. Since the data is likely to be of a more personal nature than data compiled by Google or Apple, Meta likely holds a competitive advantage. With that, it plans to apply that data to build its strength in the AI realm. To achieve this, it is on track to spend between $64 billion and $72 billion this year alone to invest in this business. Much of that will fund a data center building binge, including a $10 billion, four million square foot facility in Louisiana. Additionally, Meta is in a strong position from a valuation standpoint. Its P/E ratio of 29 closely approximates the S&P 500 average and is far below Nvidia's 51 earnings multiple. The price-to-sales (P/S) ratio confirms this discount, as Meta's sales multiple of 11 is far below Nvidia's P/S ratio of 26. Indeed, Meta will have to prove itself. For now, its 16% revenue growth in the first quarter of 2025 is far below Nvidia's 69% increase in the first quarter of fiscal 2026 (ended April 27). Nonetheless, if Meta's AI strategy succeeds, its relatively low valuation and value in the AI market could make it a much larger company over the next five years. Don't miss this second chance at a potentially lucrative opportunity Ever feel like you missed the boat in buying the most successful stocks? Then you'll want to hear this. On rare occasions, our expert team of analysts issues a 'Double Down' stock recommendation for companies that they think are about to pop. If you're worried you've already missed your chance to invest, now is the best time to buy before it's too late. And the numbers speak for themselves: Nvidia: if you invested $1,000 when we doubled down in 2009, you'd have $407,818!* Apple: if you invested $1,000 when we doubled down in 2008, you'd have $40,330!* Netflix: if you invested $1,000 when we doubled down in 2004, you'd have $692,914!* Right now, we're issuing 'Double Down' alerts for three incredible companies, available when you join Stock Advisor, and there may not be another chance like this anytime soon. How Palantir Stock Soared 80% in the First Half of 2025 to Become the Best S&P 500 Stock -- and Why the Next Big Move Could Come in August
Key Points Palantir stock's surge in the first half of 2025 was driven largely by strong quarterly earnings reports and increased 2025 guidance. Palantir stock will often fluctuate on the frequent news updates about wars and other geopolitical conflicts, but long-term investors shouldn't get too caught up in its short-term movements. Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ: PLTR) stock soared 80.3% in the first half of 2025, which ended on Monday, June 30. That performance made the operator of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered data analytics platforms the best performer in the S&P 500 index. For context, in the year's first half, the S&P 500 returned 6.2% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite index returned 5.9%. Palantir stock entered 2025 with strong momentum gaining 10.7% through Feb. 3 Palantir stock had a fantastic year in 2024. It was last year's best-performing stock in the S&P 500 index, skyrocketing an incredible 341%. (Yep, it even beat superstar Nvidia stock, which gained 171%.) The index returned 25% last year. Palantir stock entered 2025 with momentum stemming from the company's great performance last year, and likely also got a boost from Donald Trump's election as president late last year. (Some influential people with links to Palantir were known to strongly support him.) It gained nearly 11% in early 2025 before the company's release of its Q4 2024 report on Feb. 3. By comparison, the S&P 500 index rose 1.9% over this period. Palantir stock rocketed 24% on Feb. 4 following the Q4 2024 earnings release On Feb. 3, Palantir released its report for the fourth quarter of 2024. Shares soared 24% on the following day. The catalysts: the quarter's revenue and earnings along with 2025 guidance were significantly better than Wall Street had been expecting. In the quarter, Palantir's revenue grew 36% year over year, beating the 28% analysts had been projecting. Adjusted earnings per share (EPS) surged 75%, crushing the 36% consensus estimate. The company's profits have been growing faster than its revenue, reflecting an increasing profit margin. Investors were also likely buoyed by the U.S. commercial business' terrific revenue growth of 64% year over year. Many investors wanted to see greater diversification away from the company's reliance on governmental business. (For context, in its most recently reported quarter, Q1 2025, Palantir's government/commercial revenue breakdown was 55%/45%.) Moreover, management guided for 2025 revenue growth of 31% year over year, topping the 26% growth Wall Street was projecting. Palantir stock dropped on May 6 following the Q1 2025 earnings release, but quickly recouped the decline On May 6, Palantir stock dropped 12.1% following the company's release on the prior afternoon of its first quarter 2025 report. Within one week, however, shares had more than recouped this decline and closed out May with a gain. As I wrote in my Q1 earnings article, "It's safe to assume the main reason for the stock's decline was that the quarter's earnings "only" met Wall Street's consensus estimate. Granted, earnings growth was great, but simply meeting analysts' expectations is not usually good enough to prevent a post-earnings decline for a stock with a sky-high valuation." In Q1, Palantir's revenue jumped 39% year over year, exceeding Wall Street's expectation of 36% growth. Adjusted EPS surged 63%, which was in line with the analyst consensus estimate. As with the prior quarter, the company's profit increased much more than its revenue, reflecting its expanding profit margin. In addition, management raised its 2025 guidance for several key metrics, including revenue growth, which it increased to 36% from 31%. (Palantir doesn't provide guidance for earnings.) In June, Palantir stock edged up 3.5% to close out the first half of 2025 with its 80.3% gain. Catalyst ahead: Earnings release likely coming in early August Palantir hasn't yet announced a date for the release of its results for the second quarter. However, investors can probably expect a date in early August. For Q2, management guided for revenue of $934 million to $938 million. This equates to growth of about 38% year over year. It also guided for adjusted income from operations of $401 million to $405 million, or growth of 58% to 60% year over year. Wall Street is currently modeling for Q2 revenue of $939.3 million, or 39% growth year over year. Analysts also project adjusted EPS of $0.14, or 56% growth. There are no guarantees, but I'm expecting Palantir to continue its track record of surpassing Wall Street's estimates. Should you invest $1,000 in Palantir Technologies right now? Big Yields, Big Companies, Big Investment Opportunities
Key Points Prologis is the largest industrial REIT, offering a historically high 3.8% yield. Realty Income is the largest net lease REIT, offering an over 5.6% yield. Simon Property Group is the largest mall REIT, with an attractive 5.2% yield. Dividend investors looking for high-yielding stocks should spend some time examining real estate investment trusts (REITs). REITs are specifically designed to pass income on to investors. As the REIT sector has matured, however, a few companies have started to stand out and grow. Three such high-yield, industry-leading REITs you might want to buy today are Prologis (NYSE: PLD), Realty Income (NYSE: O), and Simon Property Group (NYSE: SPG). Here's why. 1. Out-of-favor Prologis has a historically attractive yield Prologis is the lowest-yielding REIT on this list, with a dividend yield of "just" 3.8%. That yield is well above the 1.3% yield of the S&P 500 index (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC), but a touch below the roughly 4% yield of the average real estate investment trust. However, Prologis' yield is near the high end of its yield range over the past decade. That makes this REIT highly attractive, given the relatively rapid pace of dividend growth it has achieved. Prologis is the largest industrial REIT, with a global portfolio of warehouses located in most of the vital distribution hubs of the world. The tariff issues swirling in the news have investors worried and downbeat on Prologis' stock, even though the business continues to perform fairly well. For example, adjusted funds from operations grew 10% year over year in the first quarter of 2025. The average annualized dividend increase over the past decade was over 10%. If you don't mind buying while other investors are selling, Prologis is a giant industrial REIT that looks like it is on sale. You'll need to go in with the belief that the tariff issues in play today will work themselves out over time. But given the interconnectedness of global trade, that seems like a reasonable conclusion. 2. Realty Income is a slow and steady dividend payer Like Prologis, Realty Income is the largest REIT in its niche. In this case, that niche is net lease. Realty Income's 5.6% yield is well above both the market's and the average REIT's. It also happens to be toward the high end of Realty Income's yield range over the past decade, suggesting that now is a good time to buy this giant dividend stock. Realty Income largely owns single-tenant properties across the U.S. and European markets. The tenants are responsible for most property-level costs (which is what a net lease requires of the tenant). Realty Income is heavily focused on retail assets, which tend to be easy to buy, sell, and release if needed. But it also has exposure to industrial properties and an increasing collection of "other" assets, like vineyards and casinos. In addition to these physical assets, Realty Income has started to make debt investments and to offer its investment services to institutional investors. Basically, it has been steadily increasing the levers it has to pull as it looks to keep growing. This is important because Realty Income is so large that it requires a lot to move the needle on the top and bottom lines. That's the bad news. The good news is that its scale and conservative culture make it a highly reliable dividend stock. On that score, the dividend has been increased annually for three decades and counting. If you don't mind collecting a lofty yield supported by an industry-leading company and slow and steady dividend growth (think low to mid-single digits), you might want to buy Realty Income today. 3. Simon Property Group is economically sensitive, but always gets back on the dividend track Simon Property Group owns enclosed malls and factory outlet centers. Although most of its assets are in the U.S. market, it has a material number of factory outlet centers that are located overseas. Its portfolio tends to be focused on high-performing retail properties that have leading positions in the regions they service. People like to shop, and Simon gives them a way to do that. The dividend yield is a lofty 5.2%. There's an important caveat here, however. Simon Property Group has a history of cutting its dividend. It did so during the coronavirus pandemic's height and during the Great Recession, both periods of time when the consumer urge to visit a shopping mall waned. Expect cuts like these to happen again, but you should also expect the dividend to get right back on the growth track. That's what happened after the last two dividend cuts, since people tend to get back to shopping as quickly as they can when economic conditions improve. Probably the most important reason to like Simon is its focus on high-quality properties. Essentially, its malls are a big draw for consumers, which makes them a big draw for tenants, too. As lower-quality malls get shuttered, high-quality malls will become more and more attractive. If you can handle a little cyclicality, high-yield Simon has proven a very rewarding dividend stock over the long term. Three giant dividend-paying REITs that cover a broad spectrum It isn't likely that investors will like all three of these REITs. However, they are each likely to be appealing to at least some investors on their own unique merits. Prologis is an out-of-favor landlord with a strong dividend growth record. Realty Income is a slow and steady tortoise, for those who like reliable dividends. And Simon is a high-quality retail landlord with a cyclical business that is increasingly differentiated from the pack. Should you invest $1,000 in Prologis right now? Before you buy stock in Prologis, consider this: The Motley Fool Stock Advisor analyst team just identified what they believe are the 10 best stocks for investors to buy now… and Prologis wasn't one of them.
