Over 1,500 Maoists have surrendered in Chhattisgarh in last 15 months, says Chief Minister
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai posted on X that 1,521 Naxals have surrendered in the past 15 months, calling it 'a strong indicator of the increasing reach and trust of the government in the Naxal-affected regions'.
In the latest round of surrender in Sukma district of Bastar region, 23 Maoists with a combined bounty of ₹1.18 crore surrendered on Saturday. This came a day after the surrender of 22 Maoists, who were active in the Abhujmad area and carrying collective rewards of ₹37.5 lakh, in Narayanpur district on Friday.
Among those who surrendered in Sukma include 11 persons who were carrying a reward of ₹11 lakh each, four persons carrying a reward of ₹5 lakh, one person carrying a reward of ₹3 lakh and seven others carrying a reward of ₹1 lakh each, said Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran S. Chavan. He added that there were three married couples among the 23 surrendered Maoists.
Incentives to be provided
'All the above surrendered Naxalites will be provided incentive amount and other facilities at the rate of ₹50,000 each under the new rehabilitation policy of the government's Chhattisgarh Naxalite Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy–2025,' he added.
Mr. Sai, responding to the development, wrote in his post: 'This is not just a surrender, it is a victory of trust — the trust our government has built by taking development to the remotest corners through people-centric schemes like 'Niyad Nella Naar'. Today, it's not the bullets but the voice of development that can be heard in Bastar.'
He added that the growing momentum reflected the effectiveness of the State's new Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy 2025, under which surrendered Naxals were being offered 'not just social dignity, but also structured avenues for rehabilitation and sustainable livelihood'.

‘Poaching centres,': VP slams growing coaching institutes calling them ‘black hole' for talent
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, while attending the fourth convocation of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Kota's Ranpur area, called coaching institutes poaching centres and a black hole for talent. State Education Minister Madan Dilawar, Energy Minister Heeralal Nagar and IT Kota Director N P Padhy were also present on the occasion, among others. A total of 189 students were conferred degrees in the event. Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Cabinet has approved a Bill that aims to regulate the state's coaching institutes and offer students a secure and supportive learning environment. The Rajasthan Coaching Centers (Control and Regulation) Bill-2025 was drafted based on the guidelines issued by the central government, the state's specific requirements and after discussions with various stakeholders, they said. After the Cabinet meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa said that once the proposed law is implemented, it will be mandatory for all coaching institutes to register themselves. Coaching centres with 50 or more students will fall under legal scrutiny. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel said to ensure transparency in the management of coaching centres, a state-level portal will be established, along with a 24×7 helpline for student counselling, and the Rajasthan Coaching Institutes (Control and Regulation) Authority will be set up. 23 Naxalites surrender in Chhattisgarh
As many as 23 hardcore Naxalites, including three couples, carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 1.18 crore, surrendered in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Saturday, a senior police official said. The surrendered Naxalites include 11 senior cadres, most of them active in the Peoples' Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) battalion no.1, which is considered the strongest military formation of Maoists, the official said. They turned themselves in before senior police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials, citing their disappointment with 'hollow' Maoist ideology, atrocities committed by Naxalites on innocent tribals and growing internal differences within the banned outfit, Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan said. He said there were nine women among surrendered cadres. The official said Lokesh alias Podiam Bhima (35), Ramesh alias Kalmu Kesa (23), Kawasi Masa (35), Madkam Hunga (23), Nuppo Gangi (28), Punem Deve (30), Paraski Pandey (22), Madvi Joga (20), Nuppo Lachchu (25), Podiam Sukhram (24) and Dudhi Bheema carried a reward of Rs 8 lakh each. 'Lokesh was a divisional committee member, and eight others were members of the PLGA battalion no.1 formation of Maoists. The development shows that this battalion is weakening, and its members have been continuously quitting Naxalism due to intensified anti-Naxal operations being carried out by security forces on the Sukma-Bijapur inter-district border,' Chavan said. Four other cadres carried a bounty of Rs 5 lakh each, one cadre Rs 3 lakh and seven cadres Rs 1 lakh each, he said. The official said some of the surrendered Naxalities were active in the Aamdai, Jagargunda and Kerlapal area committees of Maoists. All the surrendered Naxalites were provided assistance of Rs 50,000 each and will be further rehabilitated as per the government's policy, he added.

Punjab BJP holds protests against CM Mann for his remarks against PM Modi
The BJP's Punjab unit on Saturday (July 12, 2025) held demonstrations at many places in the State against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's remarks criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign visits. The BJP leaders and workers shouted slogans against Mr. Mann and also burnt his effigies. Party leader Tarun Chugh slammed the CM's remarks as "vile and disgraceful". Mr. Chugh said Mr. Mann is "drunk with power and arrogance" to the point where he doesn't even know what he is saying. "He's attacking a Prime Minister who's been elected three times by the people of India with a historic mandate. A leader whose integrity over 25 years of public life is spotless. A leader whose vision is echoing across the world. And Mann has the audacity to mock him," he said. "Dragging Home Minister Amit Shah's name into this reflects Mann's frustration," Mr. Chugh said. "He's the Home Minister who crushed terrorism, dismantled Naxal networks, and strengthened India's internal security. Under his leadership, the BJP became the world's largest political party." Punjab BJP leader Anil Sarin too hit out at Mann, saying the chief minister has forgotten the decorum and dignity of constitutional posts. The kind of language he used against the PM inside and outside of the House cannot be tolerated, said Mr. Sarin. On Thursday, Mr. Mann had criticised Modi for "celebrating" the foreign honour from a country with a population of just 10,000 while "neglecting" the nation's pressing issues. The Ministry of External Affairs had also termed Mann's remarks as "irresponsible". Despite the MEA disapproving of his comments, Mr. Mann on Friday again raked up the issue, this time in the State Assembly, and asked him to "address the concerns" of 140 crore Indians. On MEA's reaction, Mr. Mann asked whether he did not have a right to ask questions about foreign policy. On Thursday, Mr. Mann had said, "Pradhan Mantri ji has gone to Ghana? Has he come back from Ghana? Will he come back today? He will be welcomed upon his return to the country." "... He is not staying in the country where 140 crore people live. The countries that he is visiting have a population of 10,000. And he got the biggest award there. Over here, 10,000 people gather to watch the JCB machine [earth-moving machine]," Mr. Mann had said. Participating in a debate over the resolution against the deployment of CISF personnel at the Bhakra-Nangal project during the second day of the Punjab assembly on Friday, Mr. Mann again said that the Prime Minister has no time to address the concerns of 140 crore Indians but has time to tour abroad. "The MEA has reacted. Don't we have a right to ask the PM about foreign policy? Do the countries that he visits support our nation afterwards? When our relations with Pakistan deteriorated, did any country stand by us?" asked Mr. Mann. "He visits the countries 'Magneshia, Tarveshia, Garveshia' (sic), do not know where these countries are. Pradhan Mantri sahib got the biggest award there. What is the population there? It is 9,500. I said that many people gather just to watch the JCB machine here," Mr. Mann said. Later, while speaking to the media on Friday, Mann again asked, "Don't I have a right to question about the foreign policy that what are you going to do there? What have you done there? Tell us. Don't we have the right?" Mr. Mann also took a dig at Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
