Lombard Rally Festival returns to Craufurdland Castle this August
The Lombard Rally Festival returns to Craufurdland Castle this August for a bigger and better weekend of historic car action.
Running for the second time, the Festival showcases classic cars and historic rally cars in a way not seen in Scotland before last year's event.
The festival will take place on Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24 at the Ayrshire estate.
Organsiers are looking forward to bringing around 60 historic rally cars to be demonstrated on a specially constructed period-style rally stage.
Visitors will be able to see cars ranging from ex-works cars from the 1960s, from the 1970s such as Ford Escorts, Vauxhall Chevettes, Hillman Avengers and Triumph TR7V8s, from the 1980s such Talbot Sunbeams, Opel Mantas, Ford Sierras, before moving onto the Group B era of Audi Quattros, Ford RS200 and MG Metro 6R4, through to early World Rally Championship cars.
Event organiser Tim Nash said: "This year we are joined by rally champions, Dai Llewellin from Wales and Harald Demuth from Germany, who were both factory drivers for Audi in the legendary Quattro back in the 1980s.
"From Finland we are bringing Harri Rovanpera, factory driver for Peugeot, Toyota and Seat and Harri Toivonen who was, like Dai Llewellin, a driver of the iconic MG Metro 6R4 in 1986.
"Taking part in period cars at Craufurdland, the drivers will put on a great spectacle and be happy to talk to spectators and tell stories of their past successes."
The Lombard Rally Festival series of events recalls a period when the Lombard RAC Rally was the largest attended sporting event in the UK. More people came out to watch over its November weekend than watched every football league match added together during the season.
In addition to the Rally Car action, the event kicks off on Friday, August 22 with a meet and greet hosted by one of the event partners, Andrew Dodds Autocare in Ayr.
On Saturday, August 23 a Scenic Tour will start in the morning from Balloch, on Loch Lomond, before finishing later in the afternoon at Craufurdland Castle, where people taking part in the Tour will be able to join spectators to see the Rally Cars in action.
The Rally Cars will start running from 11.30am on Saturday. The traditional social will follow in the evening, with the featured drivers telling a few stories.
On Sunday, August 24 the Rally Cars are joined by a static display of classic and sports cars in front of the Castle, with the Rally Car action again starting at 11.30am.
The drivers are brought to Lombard Rally Festival Craufurdland Castle with the assistance of Nykku Air Conditioning, in addition other event partners are Hamilton Tarmac and Ergohuman.store as in 2024.
Tickets are now available to buy here.

The new Vauxhall electric Mokka GSE has some serious rally vibes… and it's closely related to speedy GTI
Vauxhall might try to keep prices a few quid below £37k to qualify for the Government's new electric car grant SIT GSE EXAM The new Vauxhall electric Mokka GSE has some serious rally vibes… and it's closely related to speedy GTI LAST month at Le Mans, Peugeot wheeled out an electric 208 GTI in front of tens of thousands of race fans. Or as spendy. But at least the coffee was free. The reason I'm telling you this is because GTI and GSE are very closely related. Different tracksuits. But the same go-faster pants underneath. Both are front-wheel drive with a 280hp e-motor and a limited-slip differential. So they'll be nippy and grippy. The regular Mokka Electric is 156hp. Both have specially-tuned suspension with a rear anti-roll bar for sharper handling. Both have beefy brakes. They'll need them. Vauxhall Mokka gets an extra shot of caffeine with new 276bhp GSe range-topper
Vauxhall has reimagined its GSe performance brand with a new version of the Mokka Electric that has nearly double the power of the standard car. Previewed by the Mokka GSe Rally prototype in May, the crossover's arrival marks the relaunch of GSe, most recently used for the plug-in hybrid Astra GSe, as a badge for performance-honed fully electric cars. The Mokka is also a more serious proposition than the Astra, with substantially more power and extensive chassis modifications. Its new motor, which is shared with the Abarth 600e, the Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica Veloce and the new Peugeot e-208 GTi, puts out 276bhp and 254lb ft. That's sent to the front wheels through a Torsen limitedslip differential, and it allows the Mokka GSe to hit 62mph from rest in 5.9sec. To cope with that significant uptick in performance, the GSe's rear axle has been redesigned to add an anti-roll bar and tauter bushings. Together, these are said to increase the back end's torsional stiffness by 189% compared with the regular car. The GSe also gets more heavily weighted steering, 380mm Alcon front brake discs with four-pot calipers and new dampers with hydraulic bump stops. The Mokka GSe rides on new 20in alloy wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport EV tyres, and it tips the scales at less than 1600kg. The brand has yet to disclose a range, but the e-208 GTi, 600e and Junior Elettrica Veloce all return around 200 miles between charges. For reference, the standard Mokka EV has a 247-mile claimed range from the same 54kWh battery used by the GSe. Visually, the new model is marked out by its neon yellow contrasting elements and new gloss black panels on its front and rear bumpers. Inside, it has Alcantara bucket seats and door cards, and the infotainment touchscreen features new displays including a g-force meter.
