'Blue Sun Palace' is set in the Chinese community of Queens with a cast led by award-winning Taiwanese actor Lee Kang Sheng ('Rebels of the Neon God'), Golden Horse award nominee Ke-Xi Wu ('The Road to Mandalay') and Chinese actor Haipeng Xu ('Venus By Water').

The official synopsis reads, 'Within the confines of a massage parlor in Flushing, Queens, Amy and Didi navigate romance, happiness, and the obligations of family thousands of miles from home. Despite the physical and emotional toll their work extracts, the women who live at the parlor have fortified an impenetrable sisterhood.
'When tragedy strikes on Lunar New Year, Amy is forced to consider her own destiny for the first time ever. Despite finding solace in the company of Cheung, Amy must leave the city and prioritize her own spirit in order to survive. In an unseen part of New York, Blue Sun Palace explores the lives of transient souls trying to find a sense of permanence.'
'Blue Sun Palace' nabbed the French Touch prize from the 2024 Cannes Critics' Week jury. Variety's review of the film reads, 'More akin to European art films than to American indies, 'Palace' prioritizes mood over plot. Tsang allows her experienced actors plenty of breathing space to convey the melancholy of their existence in situations where dreams are more likely to be deferred than to come true, but are necessary nevertheless.'
'Blue Sun Palace' is produced by Sally Sujin Oh, Eli Raskin, and Tony Yang. Tsang's debut feature will have its Los Angeles premiere at The American Cinematheque on April 22, and will then open theatrical runs at both the Laemmle Glendale in L.A. and Metrograph in New York City on April 25.

'Law & Order' star Christopher Meloni says he's 'f---ing trying' to get Stabler and Benson to hook up
Hargitay has also said she's into the idea, but she doesn't think it should happen just yet. As much as Law & Order audiences want to see Christopher Meloni's Elliot Stabler and Mariska Hargitay's Olivia Benson get together, Meloni might want it more. After a fan on X suggested Monday that, "for f--- sake, kiss her already," he replied, "I'm f---ing trying." There has long been a will-they-won't-they vibe between the two characters in the beloved franchise. They two were partners for more than a decade on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and while Benson has stayed put, Stabler has moved to Law & Order: Organized Crime. However, they still communicate via appearances in one another's departments. They've come very close to becoming a couple, but they haven't actually gone there. Not only Meloni but Hargitay, too, is hoping for that. But she just doesn't want it to happen just yet. "Maybe on the last episode," she said in June on the Call Her Daddy podcast. "I think that's when they should be together... if it's right. We'll see when we get there." The law enforcement officers are "soulmates, in a way," Hargitay said, adding, "But let's see where the story takes us, you know?" Meloni himself has addressed a moment when the two nearly kissed in a season 24 episode of SVU that Stabler appeared on. That time, it was Benson who pulled away."We were attempting something," he said in April during a TVLine Spotlight conversation. "I don't think it worked. But I'm not going to tell you why it didn't work, because you all have your opinion," Meloni said, before adding, "I know what transpired." In May 2024, Hargitay dished that the kiss was initially supposed to happen. "To be honest with you, Chris and I thought it should go one way and the powers that be didn't, so it got changed at the last minute, that near kiss," Hargitay said in a May 2024 interview with Variety. "Obviously [creator] Dick [Wolf] gets final say. It's his show and he didn't want that." While Meloni's Law & Order: Organized Crime wrapped up its fifth season last month, there will be plenty more Benson — and maybe some Stabler references or even encounters? — when L&O: SVU returns for its 27th season Sept. 25 on NBC. ‘The Lost Bus': Matthew McConaughey Saves Kids From Deadly Fire in New Film
After a six-year break from acting in live-action movies, Matthew McConaughey is making his return in a new thriller based on a true story. Apple TV+ just dropped the first trailer for The Lost Bus, a new drama that unpacks everything that went wrong with California's 2018 Camp Fire, the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in the state's history. The fire ignited in Butte County and quickly made its way to Paradise, California, resulting in 85 casualties and over 150,000 acres of land torched. In the film, McConaughey plays Kevin McKay, a tired bus driver and father of a teenage boy, who answers a distress call of 23 children and their teacher, Mary (America Ferrera), all stranded at a local elementary school when the Camp Fire's deadly flames reach their school. 'It's too late. It's too late. I'm too late as a father,' Kevin whispers to Mary in the trailer, as the inferno rages around them. The trailer is eerily quiet. Instead of music, the only thing we can hear is the roar of the fire's flames and the crackling sounds as it consumes everything in its path. Directed by Paul Greengrass, known for his work on United 93 and The Bourne Ultimatum, the film also stars Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson, Danny McCarthy, Spencer Watson, and Peter Diseth. The Lost Bus is one of live-action two projects McConaughey will release in 2025. The other, The Rivals of Amziah King, had its festival premiere at SXSW in the spring. 'I remembered a couple of things: One, how much I truly enjoy performing. Two, I remembered, 'hey, McConaughey, you're pretty damn good at this,'' the actor told Variety about his time away. 'And three, I remembered that acting is a vacation for me, and what I mean by vacation is that when I'm performing, it's my singular focus. When I walk out the door in the morning, my wife says, 'Go kick some a--. I got the kiddos. We're good.' That's vacation. Because I'm not multitasking. I'm not compartmentalizing. I'm fully focused on finding the truth of my character.' In a previous statement, Greengrass said, 'The Lost Bus is the story of quiet heroism—of people coming together in the face of the unthinkable. I'm honored to have been entrusted with this story.' The Lost Bus is set to hit theaters on Sep. 19, before becoming available for streaming on Apple TV+ on Oct. 9.

Queensboro Dance Festival celebrates borough's culture and community
The diverse culture of Queens is on display at the Queensboro Dance Festival. A mechanic by day, Felix Perez sits at the sewing machine after work, turning traditional Mexican fabrics into dresses and skirts. The garments are costumes for Manhatitlan, a dance group made up of his family and friends. "When I see the ladies and my daughters dancing with these garments, I feel so happy," the Puebla native said. Focusing on regional Mexican folkloric styles, Manhatitlan brings generations together. "We don't get to go to Mexico as often as we would like to, and so with this, we bring a little piece of home to our home," daughter Jazmin Perez-Carvente said. "My parents helped us with it, and my sister, she was like the brains of the whole project." The sisters recruit new members through church, school and work. "It's a project, but it's also a community," daughter Karla Perez said. "Everybody's welcome," mother Rosalba Perez said. Manhatitlan is one of 21 groups in this year's Queensboro Dance Festival, a series of free shows ranging from Indian classical to Chinese contemporary, popping up at plazas and in parks across the borough all summer long. "We wanted to be a platform that represented the underrepresented dance cultures here," festival founder Karesia Batan said. "We are reflecting the cultures in every neighborhood that we're in as a point of connection but as well as a place for cultural exchange." Jazmin Perez-Carvente says the festival has helped Manhatitlan grow. "The Queensboro Dance Festival gives us exposure to whole other communities, and they find interest," she said. Sharing her culture through dance has brought her closer to her roots. "I feel more alive and proud," she said. The festival began June 7 and runs through Sept. 13.
