Josh Freese Theorizes Why He Was Fired from the Foo Fighters: A Poodle Obsession, No Facial Hair and More
Days later, the drummer posted a list of possible reasons that he and the rock band parted ways
Freese joined the Foo Fighters in May 2023 after Taylor Hawkins diedJosh Freese has some ideas about why his gig with the Foo Fighters didn't work out.
After two years as the drummer for the rock band following Taylor Hawkins' death, Freese, 52, announced that they were parting ways on Friday, May 16. Days later, Freese posted about what he thinks led to the sudden departure.
On May 19, the musician posted a cheeky list on Instagram titled "Top 10 possible reasons Freese got booted from the Foos" in descending order. "#lol #peaceoutrainbowtrout #byefelicia," he captioned the post.
One reason Freese listed was for that he "once whistled 'My Hero' for a solid week on tour." He also guessed that because he could only name one Fugazi song and that he never tried growing a beard his stint with the Foo Fighters was short-lived.

Other reasons listed included his "metronome-like precision behind the kit [was] deemed 'soulless,' " asking that every rehearsal began with a "20 minute cowbell sound bath" and not showing up to the studio "because Mercury was in retrograde."
He also promised The Offspring musician Noodles that "he could be fourth guitarist." Noodles, 62, joked in the comments, "But you PROMISED."
The drummer teased that he "refused to perform unless he was guaranteed a Ouija board and nunchucks after every show."
Freese concluded the list with perhaps the most egregious reason: "the whole poodle thing was getting to be a bit much." In Freese's defense, he is a devoted poodle dad to several poodles.
Freese joined the Foo Fighters members Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee in May 2023.
"The Foo Fighters called me Monday night to let me know they've decided 'to go in a different direction with their drummer.' No reason was given. :(,' Freese wrote in an Instagram post.
"Regardless, I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage, and I support whatever they feel is best for the band." He added that it was his time being fired from a band. Freese noted he was "not angry — just a bit shocked and disappointed."
"But as most of you know I've always worked freelance and bounced between bands so, I'm fine," he concluded.

Anish Kapoor asks $17.75M for his NYC home
You may have never seen the striking sculptural works of Anish Kapoor with your own eyes — but you've certainly seen them on Instagram. Kapoor is known for Chicago's 'Cloud Gate' bean sculpture — a shiny sight for any tourist visiting the Windy City, which often makes its way online — as well as New York's own version, which is at the base of the 57-story 56 Leonard St. Now the Mumbai-born British artist is re-listing his home at that very Tribeca tower — featuring abundant light flooding in from its floor-to-ceiling windows on the 47th floor. 6 Anish Kapoor. It has four bedrooms and 4.5 baths. Kapoor bought his unit directly from the sponsor for roughly $14 million in 2016. The elegant home opens from a private elevator landing, and features high ceilings, stunning views and three private outdoor spaces. And it's all in a building designed by world-renowned architects Herzog & de Meuron. Other perks include a great room with 12-foot ceilings, a fireplace and an open chef's kitchen. The main bedroom corner suite opens to a terrace, and comes with an oversized walk-in closet, and a spa-like bath in travertine and marble with radiant-heated floors. Building amenities, along with the Kapoor sculpture at the building's base, include an indoor lap pool with a sundeck, a gym, a screening room, a residents' lounge, a private dining room and a children's playroom. Dog Owner Checks Doorbell Camera at 3am, Unprepared for What She Sees
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. When Aileigh checked her door camera in the early hours of the morning, she wasn't prepared for what she saw—her dog sitting outside staring at the door. Aileigh, 26, from Ontario, Canada, shared the footage of her 5-year-old Australian shepherd Nash to TikTok after realizing her mistake. "We realized he was outside shortly after the video was captured on the doorbell camera," Aileigh, who didn't give a surname, told Newsweek. She clarified: "It wasn't all night, but he was definitely outside for a few hours and sat there patiently." In a video that has now gained more than 1.2 million views on Instagram since being shared earlier this week, Aileigh said: "What's your favorite horror movie? Oh Idk... Probably the time I left my dog out all night and he sat by the door waiting the whole time." The video showed Nash, brightened up by porch light and quietly waiting for his owner to return. Thankfully, it wasn't too long until his owner came to the rescue. Pictures of Nash from the security camera in the early hours. "Sometimes we become so used to our routines we can go on autopilot, especially when extra tired or not feeling the best." Nash took the mishap in his stride, unfazed and tail wagging the next day. "I was so grateful that he was okay, and felt so guilty, he was just excited about the extra attention he got the next day," his owner said. When she posted the video, Aileigh had only 180 followers and didn't expect anyone to really see it. But instead, it gained viral attention, and the comments were mixed. While some people saw the light-hearted nature of the moment, others were upset about the idea of Nash being left outside alone. "How do you forget your dog is outside?" said one viewer. While another dog owner shared their own similar story: "I left my blind senior dog outside in the rain for 3 hours once," they admitted. "For months after I woke up in cold sweats crying." Aileigh said she was surprised by the responses online, and that it revealed just how quickly things can be taken out of context online. "What I thought would just be a small, lighthearted trend among friends ended up getting over a million views. I didn't expect it to spark so much discussion, and while some of the feedback was harsh, and many went way too far," she said. "At the same time, it was an honest mistake and my dog is very loved and well cared for. The video wasn't meant to cause concern." This isn't the first time a dog on camera has caused a surprise. In Oklahoma German shepherd-boxer mix Hazel gave her owner a surprise when she let herself through the door like a human. While another pet owner checked the camera while their dog was home alone, only to be surprised by the pup having snuck onto the couch.
