Karnataka high court enhances compensation to Rs 34.2L for accident victim who suffered neurological disabilities

Bengaluru: The Karnataka high court has awarded an enhanced compensation of Rs 34,23,330 to a Kalaburagi man, Devindrappa Talwar, who suffered long-term neurological disabilities due to an accident in 2019, when he still was a teenager. This includes an additional Rs 26.5 lakh over Rs 7.6 lakh earlier granted by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal in Kalaburagi. Talwar's injuries included a left clavicle fracture, traumatic brain injury, right-side hemiparesis, partial hearing loss, and speech difficulties. At the time of the accident, he was a student and missed his examination. The tribunal had earlier assessed his disability at 10%. Talwar appealed, seeking a more realistic assessment. Justice CM Joshi ruled that the tribunal failed to consider the extent of Talwar's neurological and cognitive disabilities. Medical reports showed he remains partially dependent in daily life and suffers from psychological impairments. The high court determined a cumulative disability of 51% and revised the functional disability to 60%, citing diminished earning capacity. Steelbird Tornado helmet series launched at ₹1,959. Check details

The Steelbird Tornado is priced at ₹1,959. Check Offers Steelbird Helmets has launched the Tornado helmet series that conforms to both Indian (ISI) and international (DOT) standards. The Tornado is priced at ₹ 1,959 and comes in the entry-to-mid range of commuter helmets. The helmet is available in four sizes—S (560mm), M (580mm), L (600mm), and XL (620mm)—encompassing a wide range of fit needs. It uses a micro-metric buckle that adheres to European fastening standards, a feature increasingly common in helmets priced for the mass market. The Tornado features a high-impact ABS shell designed to withstand crashes and protect the rider's head in the event of a collision. Internally, the helmet includes multi-layer, high-density EPS foam for shock absorption, with fiberglass reinforcement—a material required for DOT compliance and used in most of Steelbird's DOT-rated offerings. Also Read : Steelbird hits 87 lakh helmet sales in FY25, plans to cross 1 crore in FY26 The helmet also includes reflective elements, such as a rear spoiler and interior padding, to improve rider visibility at night. A blackout edition, in which all elements—chin strap, interior, buckle, and reflector—are finished in black, has also been introduced. Tornado's dual-visor system is designed to handle variable lighting conditions. Riders can use a built-in sun visor during the day, with a smoke-tinted outer visor that can be swapped using a quick-release mechanism. One key update is the redesigned chin strap exit from the center of the cheek pad. This is meant to offer more ear space, which might enhance comfort when wearing it for long periods or with Bluetooth products. The inside of the helmet comes equipped with a removable and washable breathable liner, a common feature in most commuter-oriented helmets to deal with hygiene and long-term wear issues. Steelbird Helmet sales milestone Steelbird Hi-Tech India Ltd, India's largest two-wheeler safety gear manufacturer, clocked 87 lakh units of helmet sales in FY 2024-25, up from the previous fiscal year's 80 lakh units. Key to this growth has been the company's continued investment in production infrastructure. The company stated that the Steelbird's Baddi facility now incorporates robotic systems for visors, automated painting, and expanded assembly lines. These improvements have brought daily production to nearly 50,000 units. Driverless Tesla: Can These EVs Be Trusted On Indian Roads? Here's What We Think

Last Updated: As Elon Musk's vision of giving driverless cars to the world is taking shape, a critical question remains answered: Can this features ever succeed in India? Let's Find Out. Amid the time when technology is evolving in the EV segment, the top manufacturer started turning the future into reality. They begin offering the features that no one predicted a few years back, and the most controversial yet talked-about one is Tesla's Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD). What Are Driverless EVs? First things first, let's have an overview of the autonomous driving packages. Currently, Tesla offers two major autonomous driving setups: Autopilot, which provides features like lane-keeping and adaptive cruise control, and the other one is Full Self-Driving (FSD). The latter allows the vehicle to do city street navigation by itself, automatic lane changes, traffic signal recognition, and even self-parking. It works due to a multiple-camera setup inside the vehicle and relies on ultrasonic sensors to make it work without human intervention. The above-mentioned elements are called edge cases, scenarios that AI has never encountered and struggles to interpret correctly. Technical Barriers Sensor Confusion: As we mentioned above, Tesla's models rely heavily on cameras, with no LiDAR. If the technology is brought to India, the poor lighting, chaotic movement, and dust will make it hard for the feature to work properly, and might end up making the wrong decision during the self-driving. Map Reliability: FSD uses high-definition mapping for some functions. In India, maps are often outdated or incomplete, and GPS signals can be unreliable in super crowded cities. Infrastructure Gap: The country does not have a proper lane marking system, road signs, and has faded zebra crossings in most of the major cities. These elements can contribute to failing the feature massively. Regulatory Hurdles: Even if we want fully driverless cars, Indian automotive laws do not permit full autonomous vehicles on public roads due to unpredictable traffic and unwanted scenarios. Could It Still Handle? It is worth mentioning that the unpredictability of Indian roads could be a goldmine for Tesla to make its AI systems better than the best. However, FSD tech for now is only capable of handling busy roads in the west, as it has never seen unpredictable traffic and roads like India. If in future, the top manufacturers decide to go completely out of their comfort zone, and begin the testing locally with specific driving data, things might change in the future, which seems far for now.
