The rugged new Ford Explorer Tremor is ready to climb mountains

The rugged new Ford Explorer Tremor is ready to climb mountains Or just make it through the urban jungle. Is this the sweet spot of the Explorer range? Skip 12 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 12 Today, the Ford Explorer joins the Tremor family and frankly, this one's a no-brainer. While the recent three-row Expedition Tremor SUV certainly has its use cases, the Explorer is second only to the F-150 in Ford sales. This means a far wider range of drivers can opt into having what is potentially a top-tier all-rounder. An all-rounder with either the same 300hp 2.3-liter 'EcoBoost' turbo I4 the standard vehicle comes with, or the 400hp 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 that powers the sporty Explorer ST. Notable Tremor upgrades include off-road-ready suspension with more rugged springs and sway bars not found on the regular SUV. A new limited-slip diff and 18in all-terrain tires round out the new hardware. In terms of software, you can expect the Explorer Tremor to include the latest Ford suite of digital doodads, including Google's Maps, assistant, and compatible apps from Google Play. There's also a 14-speaker B&O speaker system to bump tunes with and Copilot 360 assist, which among other functions provides 360 degrees of view around the car, now presumably for more than supermarket parking lot use. Naturally, Ford will include BlueCruise 1.5, the latest iteration of its hand-free driving assist for use on the highways towards your next great adventure. 'Tremor all the things' has seemingly been the mantra over at Dearborn, and from the Maverick to the Expedition, we've been sufficiently impressed. The Tremor-branded cars have proven to be the 'sweet spots' in the lineup, without splurging on the pricey and more extreme Raptor lineup, if there is even a Raptor version of your chosen Ford. Toto Wolff makes Lewis Hamilton feelings clear as Ferrari star and boss disagree

Toto Wolff has backed Lewis Hamilton to come good at Ferrari, even if the seven-time world champion is not quite seeing eye-to-eye with his new employers following a string of disappointments Mercedes boss Toto Wolff remains hopeful seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton can turn his season around, despite not seeing eye-to-eye with his current boss. Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur has insisted his drivers should concentrate less on car upgrades and more on maximising their current vehicles' performance. The Italian manufacturer had a rather unremarkable weekend at the Canadian Grand Prix, where Charles Leclerc came in fifth and Hamilton sixth after running over a groundhog on the 13th lap. Coincidentally, these are also the current positions of the Ferrari pair in the drivers' standings, but Hamilton's former boss urged patience as he adjusts to his new environment. "Changing teams is not enough to unlearn how to drive," Wolff said on Bloomberg's Hot Pursuit podcast (via the Daily Express). "We all need a period of adaptation. Lewis drives a different car and works with a new team of engineers, without forgetting that it is an entirely Italian team. All this takes time." Ferrari will be optimistic that some engineering adjustments in the second half of the campaign could bring about significant improvements. And Wolff suggested that's when Formula 1 icon Hamilton tends to hit his stride. "Usually, at the beginning of the season, Lewis has to find his rhythm," he continued. "While in the second part he has always done very well. So I would not exclude him from the protagonists." The British ace is hoping this will be the case if he's to salvage any pride from the current season. Despite changing teams, it's fair to say 2025 has been a major let-down so far by his usual standards. The 40-year-old hasn't managed so much as a podium finish in Ferrari colours thus far. But Hamilton has insisted modifications to the car are necessary for them to truly compete. Team principal Vasseur seems more focused on Ferrari's approach to race weekends being the real problem. But Hamilton told reporters in Canada that he is "constantly battling the engineers" to try and enhance the SF-25's performance. Ferrari remains in contention for second place in the constructors' championship, but the drivers' title is way out of either star's reach. Hamilton made it clear when he said: "Ultimately we need upgrades. We need an upgrade to be able to fight the guys up front." This directly contradicts Vasseur, whose job security has recently been under scrutiny. While the Frenchman acknowledges that upgrades are coming, he prefers to concentrate on what his drivers can achieve with the current model. "We will have an upgrade soon, before the UK. And perhaps another one a bit later," he said after Montreal. "But honestly today, I think there is much more in the execution and what you are getting from the car than the potential of the car itself." Vasseur added: "Honestly, I want to put the focus much more on the execution than the pure potential of the car. But we will bring something." This final remark will sound sweet to Hamilton and Leclerc, who are keen on catching up with their leading competitors. However, it does suggest an underlying discord within the core team at Maranello.

RAY MASSEY: It's a Grand day out for Vauxhall's spacious new SUV

To be fair, I haven't tried the kitchen sink yet, but over hundreds of miles of driving, I've had a good go at squeezing a whole assortment of items into the new Vauxhall Grandland SUV. That includes: supermarket shops, potted shrubs and bags of top soil, compost and bark-chipping, plenty of luggage, golf clubs and trolley, DIY kit from B&Q, and even an Ikea 'Billy' bookshelf – the ultimate test. But it's not just the flexible boot and folding-down rear seats that are a boon in this comfortable five-seater family vehicle. With its contemporary styling, black roof and tinted rear windows, it looks cool, too. This SUV will grow on you, as it did me. Riding on 19-inch wheels, my 136 horsepower Grandland GS hybrid was powered by a 1.2 litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, connected to a 21kW (28hp) electric motor. The GS trim is the middle of three levels between Design and Ultimate. For everyday use, I kept mine in Sport mode – which was jauntier than the other two options of Eco and Normal. With an acceleration from rest to 62mph in 10.2 seconds, and a top speed of 126mph, it achieves a decent lick on faster roads and for cruising long distances on motorways. It's frugal, too: it will start with well over 500 miles of range on a full tank. But generating additional electric power on the move means that it also does more than 50 miles to the gallon. It's surprisingly nimble, too. While the range starts from £34,755, as driven, my SUV was priced at £37,350 – including £700 for the spectrum blue paint. You can shop around for finance deals and offers and, after a deposit, you could be paying as little as a few hundred pounds a month. I must admit that when, in Germany last autumn, I first tried out the more powerful 213hp battery-powered Grandland Electric (0 to 62mph in nine seconds and a range of 325 miles) along with the petrol hybrid version, I found the latter a bit underpowered. But having lived with the hybrid for a while on UK roads, I've grown to enjoy its virtues. The folding down rear seats increase load-lugging capacity in the boot from 550 to 1,645 litres Vauxhall may not be the most fashionable of badges, but with plenty of interior space, the sharp, modern face and uncluttered lines of the new Grandland won't disgrace anyone's driveway. The folding down rear seats increase load-lugging capacity in the boot from 550 to 1,645 litres. The shallow V-shaped grille and 'vizor' lights and illuminated Griffin badge and illuminated Vauxhall name on the rear hatch adds to a tidy package. This month Vauxhall launched the new range-topping 325hp Grandland Electric AWD, its first fully electric car with all-wheel drive, which accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 6.1 seconds and has a range of 311 miles. It goes on sale in early Autumn priced from around £43,000. Howay the Leafs! As Sunderland climbs back into football's Premier League alongside rivals Newcastle, Nissan has unveiled its third generation Leaf electric compact SUV at its factory in the north-eastern city. In a vote of confidence in Britain as Nissan makes global cuts, the sportier- looking model will be built at the Sunderland plant with its 6,000-strong workforce. Vote of confidence: Nissan has unveiled its third generation Leaf electric compact SUV Just over five inches shorter but slightly higher and wider than the outgoing model, this new Leaf crossover has sharper looks, up-to-date tech and promises plenty of interior space. It accelerates to 62mph in 7.6 seconds, and Nissan say it can cruise for 200 miles at 80mph (where legal). Two battery options (52kWh and 75kWh) give ranges of 270 miles and 375 miles respectively – the latter getting you from London to the Scottish Borders. Orders begin in autumn ahead of spring deliveries. Expect prices to start from just under £30,000.
